3. Virgo (Virgin)
4. Sister's Day: Magic Rises
5. Onyx

Duration: 8/1/13 - 8/31/13
Level: Hot Summer Nights!: Read 5-7 books
0/5
1. Hell on Wheels!: Since the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally takes place in the first full week of the month of August, read a book that features a motorcycle-riding protagonist or main character(s).
2.Eight is Enough!: August being the eighth month of the year, read a book to represent eight in some way: eight letters in the title, author name(s) has eight letters. You could even read the eighth book in a series, published by an author, or in your tbr pile (ereader or on your shelf). If you can find another way to represent eight, knock yourself out.
3.Last Holler: Since summer is starting to wind down this month, with school getting ready to start back up, and vacation time coming to an end, read a book about characters who are having a last hurrah before embarking on a big event or obligation in their life. You can choose what event and circumstance.
4.Stargazing: The peak of the Perseid meteor shower occurs this month. So to celebrate, read a science fiction novel, sci-fi romance, or a book with a main character who is a star/celebrity.
5.Virgo: Other than Leo, the other Zodiac sign for August is Virgo. Virgos are analytical, observant, precise, helpful and reliable as positive traits. Their more negative traits are skepticism, fastidiousness, inflexibility, the tendency to interfere, and emotional coldness. Virgos tend to live in their minds. Read a book with a character with any of the above traits. You could also read a book with a main character who is a virgin.
6. Onyx: One of the birthstones for August is Onyx. In Latin or Greek, it means claw or fingernail. It is a banded stone that has layers of a variety of colors, except blue or purple, but commonly black and white. Onyx is used to make jewelry. It symbolizes eloquence and is the stone for the 7th and 10th wedding anniversaries. Onyx was well-known in Greek and Roman cultures. Read a book with a black cover, or with a variety of colors except blue or purple, or a werewolf or shifter main character (has claws). You could read a book with an eloquent main character or by a very good writer, or even a book set in either Ancient or present Greek or Rome, or a main character who has been married for several years.
7.World Tour: Since folks go on vacation in the summer, and there are several holidays in various parts of the globe (such as India, Ireland, Scotland, Singapore, and Jamaica), read a book in which the characters travel to two or more countries (excluding origin and return point of the same).
8.Listen Up!: August is Audio Appreciation Month, so listen to any audiobook, and it will count for this part of the challenge.
9.Sister's Day: August 1st is the day for observance of Sister appreciation. Read a book with a character who has or is a sister, or read one of your sister's favorite authors or books. If you're a sister, you can read any book you choose this month.
10.Pick your celebrity: These celebrity/famous people were born in August. Five presidents: Bill Clinton, Benjamin Harrison, Herbert Hoover, Lyndon Johnson, Barack Obama; Several actors and actresses: Lucille Ball, Halle Berry, Sean Connery, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Jada Pinkett Smith, Patrick Swayze; Singers: Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Madonna, LeAnn Rimes, James Taylor Read a book that represents one of the folks on this list, either by name or some association you can think of (please indicate which you used in your stats).
