Fever #5.5

Fever Moon: The Fear Dorcha

Rate this book
An all-new Mac & Barrons story by #1 "New York Times" bestselling author Karen Marie Moning, marvelously adapted into a full-color graphic novel by writer David Lawrence and illustrator Al Rio

In "Fever Moon", we meet the most ancient and deadly Unseelie ever created, the Fear Dorcha. For eons, he's traveled worlds with the Unseelie king, leaving behind him a path of mutilation and destruction. Now he's hunting Dublin, and no one Mac loves is safe.

Dublin is a war zone. The walls between humans and Fae are down. A third of the world s population is dead and chaos reigns. Imprisoned over half a million years ago, the Unseelie are free and each one Mac meets is worse than the last. Human weapons don't stand a chance against them.

With a blood moon hanging low over the city, something dark and sinister begins to hunt the streets of Temple Bar, choosing its victims by targeting those closest to Mac. Armed only with the Spear of Destiny and Jericho Barrons, she must face her most terrifying enemy yet."

Every woman in this book looks like a pinup girl with ginormous breasts. Also, all of these images have been approved by KMM. Why am I not surprised?

——————-

This is a surprisingly coherent and well-written graphic novella (it's a bit too short to be called a novel, IMO). Very often graphic novels are nothing more than money-grabbing ventures, when the same story is sloppily repackaged in a different format. Fever Moon, to me, is not only a novella that offers some new content, but it is also a well-adapted story, unlike, let's say, The Exile: An Outlander Graphic Novel, that wasn't cohesive and wasn't laid out properly, in addition to the inconsistent character images.

Fever Moon: The Fear Dorcha is set in somewhere in a middle of Shadowfever. Jericho is back, he and Mac are still searching for the Book, their relationship is in a limbo. Dani is doing her savior job on the streets of Dublin and one day comes across several victims in coma who are also missing some of their face parts - i.e. an eye, a mouth, an ear. When Dani falls victim to the same kind of plight, Mac and Barrons have to step in and find out who is to blame. Obviously, some bad Unseelie is involved.

This is a pretty self-contained mystery that doesn't have a bearing on the main story arc (or maybe I am wrong and some of it will figure in future Fever novels? hmm, there is definitely a possibility, if the author is keen). I actually enjoyed the story much more than I had thought I would. Besides a bit strange conclusion of the mystery and issues with some imagery, which I will detail later, I thought Fever Moon was quite successful. I liked that it recapped Mac's back story rather nicely and also introduced some new information about the Unseelie King and his concubine - the most intriguing part of all Fever books, if you ask me.

Now to the gripes. The portrayal of some characters here is rather questionable. Like Emily astutely noted, Mac's breasts do look more or less like boulders. And generally ALL women in this graphic novel are allowed only one body type, which is extra busty. Even our young Dani (how old is she, 14, 15?) has a couple of good-sized grapefruits stuffed down her shirt.

Mac in her male wish-fulfillment glory

Dani and her grapefruits

As for Jericho and his crew, they all look like tanks. I kind of expected Barrons to have a more polished, less thuggy, lankier look. And don't get me started on Ryodan. His "look" is wearing a stripy half-sleeve buttoned down shirt which you can often see on fast-food employees. I don't know if I can see him as a desirable man in future Fever World books in that getup.

Ryodan, Barrons and their square bro-mates

The Seelie guys, on the contrary, are all much better shaped and overall better looking, of course if you into Fabio look. (Apparently, I am. And, after looking at Velvet some more, is he really less muscly? Oh, I don't know, I don't know!)

Meet Velvet

But even with all these complaints, Fever Moon: The Fear Dorcha is still a very entertaining and visually pleasing book. I am even contemplating buying me a copy.

This review contains some spoilers for the Fever series

If you haven't already read the Fever series - perhaps you are thinking of trying this out as a sample before reading - I would highly doubt you'll get much from this apart from a bunch of series spoilers. This could work as a standalone story but I think part of it's charm and part of the reader's ability to care is based on the assumption that you already know and love these characters. Seeing as this describes me perfectly, I enjoyed this little mini addition to the story a lot.

It took me a while to be certain exactly when this is set but it turns out it's somewhere in the middle of Shadowfever. I'd actually forgotten about this but Mac has already met the Fear Dorcha in Ryodan's bar, he was the strange Unseelie creature without a face who made Mac feel like her mind was being drained before he was told to leave her alone. He's a creepy little bugger, that's for sure, and he brings with him some interesting new Seelie mythology to add to the mix.

You know, I used to think that comics/graphic novels were so breasty because they were mostly read by teenage boys, but seeing as this is predominantly one for the ladies and Mac is still like a walking mammary gland, I can only assume that there is some rule in the graphic novel publishing world that prohibits normal-looking boobs. Strange. At least they got the t-shirt spot on:

Even though Mac and Barrons weren't quite how I pictured them, it was great to see two of my favourite characters again. Plus, one thing they did do completely right was the loaded banter between the two of them. This story is set after the Unseelie rape and Barrons has, ahem, come to the rescue, but it's also set before the end of Shadowfever so the tension between them is still running high and Barrons doesn't miss the opportunity to extract Velvet's name from Mac's tongue his own way:

So, probably not one for newbies, but it should certainly satisfy existing fans' cravings a little until Iced: A Dani O'Malley Novel comes out.

I only found out about Fever Moon only two days ago and just had to read it. Because, you know, Barrons. I mean, I'd been clean for almost two whole weeks and desperately needed a JZB fix. Desperately. So I decided to give this a try even though I hardly ever read comics and graphic novels.

First things first: I hate the illustrations. The characters look nothing like what I pictured in that little head of mine. Worse, they're your typical comic book clichés: slutty looking chicks and huge, muscled guys bursting out of their t-shirts.

Mac looks like a freaking amazon warrior complete with thin waist, huge boobs and a big butt.

Barrons looks just plain ugly:

Now if they'd made him look like this…

But I digress.

Rowena looks just…wrong. I mean, a plump little old lady? Sorry, that's not Rowena.

The only characters that don't look too bad are Dani (of all people!), Jayne and the Dreamy Eyed Guy.

The story? Just meh. It wasn't too bad at first but then I pretty much lost interest after a while. I did like the passage about the UP and the concubine but it's only a few pages long. What I enjoyed most here? The Fear Dorcha taking Dani's mouth away hahahahaha! Peace & silence! There is a God and He loves me! Unfortunately it didn't last very long… Oh well, at least we don't get to see (or hear) much of Dani here;)

What bothered me most in Fever Moon is that I kept trying to figure out where the story fit in the series and it confused the hell out of me. I know I shouldn’t have focused on that but I couldn’t help it. I guess Fever Moon hovers somewhere over Shadowfever . I think I would have enjoyed the story much more if it hadn't been for the illustrations but I just couldn't bring myself to like them.

Ultimately Fever Moon doesn't add anything to the series. I guess it's worth skimming through if you're a hard-core Fever fan and need your fix before Burned is released. I wouldn't recommend buying it though: at about 10€ for the Kindle edition I'd say save your money and check it out from the library if you can.

It is very hard to see a vision of a much loved series drawn through another's eyes, even the author. I just couldn't connect these characters faces with my version of Barrons, Mac, the Fae and others, I don't think any of us have seen the same two people in this series. When I talk to fellow Moning Manics we all have vasty different takes on them, how can you define a dream. It is so complex and fluid with no hard lines to keep our imagination boxed,
The art work is beautiful, the detailing is amazing as is the coloring. There is nothing to fault here. I would have loved it if I had not already cemented my version in my head.

Brilliantly awesome! 5 Stars is not enough!

I went into this with no expectations because honestly, I didn't know what to expect from a graphic novel. My only thought was to read anything by Karen Marie Moning but it turned out fantastic! I was so surprised at how much I loved it. This book has everything I want in my reading experience : appealing plot, great storyline, likable characters, and wonderful and eye-catching illustrations.

At the end of the book, there are two special chapters, ‘Behind The Scenes Of Fever Series’ and ‘Original Character Notes And Sketches’, which are very helpful and informative.

I finished this book with the biggest smile on my face.

I LOVED IT!!!

I actually bought this book over 2 years ago because I completely love the Fever series and had to have every possible story available but since I've never really been a big fan of graphic novels I kind of stuck it on a shelf and never got around to reading it. Then recently friends introduced me to Saga (amazing graphic novel series BTW!) and I realised that I do quite like GNs after all, add that in with a Fever series reread and of course I had to FINALLY read Fever Moon.

I'm going to admit that it took me a little while to get used to the artist's idea of Mac and Barrons, they just aren't how I pictured them but that's the trouble when you go from a normal book series where you've spent years filling in the blanks with your own imagination to a graphic novel set in the same world where you're forced to accept the artist's impression. It's a little bit jarring at first (well it was in my case anyway) but there is no denying how beautiful the artwork is in Fever Moon and the characters quickly grew on me. It's not going to change the way I see everyone when I read the main novels but I the cartoon versions are easily recognisable and it was fun spotting so many of the character's I already love.

It's hard to decide exactly where this story fits into the Fever world timeline but it must happen sometime in the middle of events in Shadowfever so I would highly recommend waiting until you've finished that book before picking this up. If you have read Shadowfever you'll recognise the Fear Dorcha that Mac met at the bar in Chester's when she was having a conversation with the dreamy eyed guy and I thought that was a really nice way to tie the two stories together. The Fear Dorcha was a truly creepy villain so I'm glad we got a chance to find out more about him and it was interesting to see the way Mac handled coming so close to losing the people she cared about.

While I wouldn't say it's essential to read this story it is a really nice extra that I'm sure most fans will enjoy. The artwork is fabulous, the story was interesting and fit the graphic novel format really well and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

Spoilers

I wasn't planning on buying this because 1. I've never really been interested in graphic novels 2. It seemed kind of expensive and 3. The plot sounded kind of boring. However, even with all those negatives, I couldn't help thinking I was missing out on something. I finally gave in and decided to get it when I was given a gift card, I thought why bloody not?! I'm technically not using my own money and at least I'd finally stop wondering about the damn thing.

Do I regret using my gift card on this? I don't know… I'm still undecided.

I loved:

-The artwork. I thought the details on (most of) the illustrations were amazing and I really liked the bold and vibrant colours used in some action scenes. My favourite picture was of Chester's - I could actually see why loads of fae and humans wanted to party there.

-It was great seeing all the characters come 'alive'. I did have a few issues with the portrayal of a few of them though.

-Barrons punching Rowena. It was the funniest part of the novel.

-Barrons taking action when he saw Mac was upset.

-Dani and Mac's relationship. They have such a sweet bond and I love that Mac has strong connections with female characters. Most heroines have zero female friends/relationships.

-Barrons and Mac's usual flirting and banter. I just love how Mac doesn't get all weak at the knees anytime Barrons so much as looks at her. Mac may not be the most complex or interesting of heroines but at least she doesn't get all flustered or start stammering and blushing around Barrons. She also doesn't let him order her around… Sure, she's his OOP detector but she only does OOP things for him for her own benefit (like protection, finding out about Alina, living in his home, using his resources/knowledge etc). If anything Mac's the boss of the relationship — he always ends up following her around and doing the things she wants.

-Kat… I'm really starting to enjoy her character. She was only in it briefly but I quite like her serious, caring, intelligent personality. I'm hoping she ends up with that Kasteo guy.

-Inspector Jayne. I think he's the true hero of the series — risking his life on the fae ridden streets to protect humanity.
Barrons, Ryo, V'lane and co are douches — they have no regard for human life unless it somehow benefits them — it's actually quite off putting.

-Also, we get to see the Mac-halo. And yes, Mac looks like a bit of an idiot wearing it.

What I wasn't impressed with:

-The plot. It felt like the stereotypical 'investigation of the week' type plot. A fae (the Fear Dorcha) starts stealing parts of peoples faces and Mac and Barrons investigate — it was unoriginal and dull. I guess the plot couldn't be all that complex in a short graphic novel… but I wish it had had at least an ounce of originality.

-The scene showing Mac's rape. Why was that included? It wasn't necessary to the story. And why was it shown in such a sexy way? Ugh. Why was Mac so blase about the rape? Why did Barrons and Ryo keep bringing up her being pri-ya?
I hate it when rape is just used as a way to make the heroine 'stronger'.

-There was quite a bit of recapping going on about the plot and characters of the Fever world. It felt more like it was written for people who had never read the series before instead of loyal fans of the series.

-Barrons's eyebrows looked weird.

-Ryoden. Ugh, he looked like a middle aged schoolteacher.
I hated how he kept looking down at Mac whenever she so much as talked to another man. She was doing NOTHING wrong but he acted disgusted in her, like as if she was betraying Barrons or something.
Ryodan's such a dick — it's okay for him to treat women like blow up dolls and sleep with a dozen different women every day but if he sees Mac with another guy, he acts like she's unworthy and a bitch. I hate him.

-The other two/three members of the nine that were shown seemed lame — they looked more like bouncers than sexy, enigmatic, powerful immortals.

-Rowena… she looked more dowdy than I thought she would.

-Jo… I thought she was meant to be pretty but she looked really unattractive.

-Why is KMM so obsessed with rapist love interests?

-Dani looked like a woman rather than a 14yr old girl.

-I'm sure that the things that happened in Fever Moon weren't mentioned in any of the Fever books.

So yea, it was a bit of a mixed bag. I think overall I must have liked it, since I can't stop flicking through my copy - I love looking at all the pictures.

3.5 stars - - rated up for the beautiful graphics. I am not a graphic novel reader. It isn’t that I am opposed to them or I don’t like them, I just tend to be less of a visual person and more into detailed story lines. But I am going to put my cards on the table here and admit something — if Karen Marie Moning publishes it, I will read it and I will likely buy it at the first day release price. I may also buy the hardcover, the ebook and the audio version.

The illustrations in Fever Moon are beautiful, detailed and worth examining for all fans of the Fever storyline. Like anything, the illustrations deviated what I had held in my mind and imagined to be Mac, Barrons, Dani, etc. I have to admit that I was bothered by what seemed to be the sexualization of Mac’s rape. The images portrayed the scenes from Fae Fever in not so much a terrifying way but in a sexual way. Also, what the heck happened to Mac’s boobs? Where they always that ginormous? And Dani was in no way an awkward teenager as described in the books, she is the opposite of awkward. I did not like these deviations. But oh well, I went with the story.

Quite a bit of the story is filled with memory flashbacks or a retelling of the first four books in the Fever series. For most fans, I think they will enjoy seeing these key scenes brought to graphics. But this does amount to less of a new storyline being told.

The story is interesting and it takes place before the conclusion of Shadowever but after the beginning of Shadowfever. So for those of you who have read the series, Mac knows what Barrons is. Mac and Barrons are on the search for the book but get sidetracked because a horrible thing is stalking people in Dublin. Once the story reaches the 1/2 way point, it becomes rushed and seems less developed. It does, however, come to a satisfying end (I would say of course, but we all know that KMM is the queen of unsatisfying ends!)

So do I recommend this graphic novel? Well, if you are like me, I couldn’t dissuade you from reading Fever Moon no matter how I reviewed it. I don’t think Fever Moon adds anything truly new or amazing to the Fever Story, but it was nice to revisit my favorite characters. So yeah, if you are a fan then read it.

Manage to snatch this one and cross one of my wishlist, thanks to Big Bad Wolf that allow me to bought the graphic novel just half it price. I think...the 5 hours queuing to pay the book is worth it. Not.

Anyhoo, the number 5.5 is not correct, since Fevermoon happen between Dreamfever and Shadowfever. Fear Dorcha itself make appearance in Shadowfever. Re-read might be help to refresh my memory, tho. As for new readers, maybe they will be confused a little bit. Moning and her team manage to draw the prologue, which mostly focused to what happen when Mac become Pri-Ya. Quite graphic too, but I think it's tamer compared to any smut manga or webtoons that I'd read *sneer*.

I did like the story, but the drawing? Not so much. Mac is too..Idk, busty? I know that she's sexy, but I find her portrayal in this graphic novel is merely okay. Barrons? Pfft...I really DON'T LIKE IT. He's too...burly! I imagine that Barrons is sleek, sophisticated, but the Al Rio's version is too burly for my taste. The Fae princes, V'Lane and Velvet..all seems like Fabio. Gezz..if you have things for Fabio, maybe you will like them.

All in all..still a good to read graphic novel and a quick read too. I like the flow of the panel, but I wish the characters didn't grin too much. It's unsettling. Also Fever Moon happen to become Al Rio's last comic, before he died :(. A graphic novel that a must read for any Fever fans.

5 star art, 2 star story.

I'm a big fan of the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning. It's a world that's rich and intriguing. And complex after five books and a full story arc have been published. Which is where the problem with Fever Moon comes in.

The story starts out fine, but as we roll to the climax, it falls apart. Suddenly canon is completely broken on several levels and in such unnecessary ways it just seems deliberate. Or slap-dash to end the thing without too much fuss. That's how it feels by the end, which is unfortunate, because this big let-down doesn't actually happen until about 4/5 of the way through.

And that's why I give the story two stars.

The art is fantastic. Al Rio and Cliff Richards did an amazing job with the visuals for beloved (and not so beloved) characters. It has just that "spectacular" feel that comics need to jump off the page. I loved that aspect of this book. That Cliff Richards was able to come in and seamlessly weave his work into the established imagery after Al Rio's death, is really impressive. I'll keep my eye out for his work in the future.

Comes out to about 3.5 stars, but I'm rounding up to 4 due to the excellent artwork.

My first reaction to the news about this comic was

"whaaaaaaaaaaat, holy crap really!"

But then after I thought about it, I was contemplating on whether I should buy this or not. I love the Fever series, but a comic, really?
This made me have my doubts, plus I was quietly aching for another book installment of the Mac and Barron's story. I thought Fever Moon was a side story that happens after Shadowfever so that we could FINALLY see Mac and Barron's together.... ya that's sadly not it.

Honestly it's just kinda weird seeing it as a comic when you know it will be better in book form. I get the sense that Moning did this comic more for herself than her fans. I kinda figured this after I read the introduction before the comic when I bought it on my nook. She talked about how she always loved comics and wanted to see her story drawn by her favorite comic book artist. Ya I get that but I don't think her story translated as flawlessly through her characters onto the page. I'm sure she had a memorable time doing this but as a mainly "book" fan ( don't get me wrong I love manga ) I think she should have stuck with her niche.

As a fan after reading this comic, I just kinda shrug my shoulders and say "It was good but... It left my emotions in a dizzy... and not in the good way."

To break it down:
(Small spoiler at the end)

GOOD:

-Hey it's a new story we should be happy right?

-Interesting story/plot line that might or might not help you understand what's going on in total if you read the whole series. (But not everything adds up)

-Some new Mac and Barron's interaction which was kinda cool to see in a drawn version though you don't get that same feeling you get (sexual tension?) as when you read them in the books.

BAD:
-The characters were kinda on kinda off (you will know what I mean if you read the comic... Barron's mainly)

-You just know when reading this comic that it will be ten times better as a book than a comic.

-For a short comic it was a lot of money (and I even bought it nook version, so it's cheeper than most)

-And I don't know why but they didn't show Rhydon's face in the book. I have no idea on why they did this... and I thought he had white hair? In the comic it's brown...

-Small Spoiler-

I don't know why but in one weird scene Barron's punches Rowena in the face, (and in his beast form no less) and it just made me burst out laughing because it just seemed so absurd.

This is definitely one that fans of the Fever series will not want to miss. It doesn't necessarily add much to the series, it can almost be treated like a novella, but it definitely satisfied a craving that is forever hiding beneath the surface for most of us fans (and left me even more eager for Iced: A Dani O'Malley Novel). It was really awesome being able to envision the characters despite the fact that I didn't exactly agree with their interpretation of Barrons. For me, Barrons is more of a David Grady type.
But instead he came out more like this:

Ehh... just wasn't what I pictured. Was it still awesome? You betcha. 5 big stars for the awesome artwork done by the late Al Rio, 3 stars for the story itself.

A new story set in the Fever world?!
*Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod!*
Or that would have been my reaction before I read Iced.
My actual reaction to finding this sitting on the shelf at the library was a lot less enthusiastic.
Phbbt. Guess I'll check it out...

I'm happy to say that this was an awesome addition to the original Fever books. It's a Mac & Barrons story, and there is only a brief appearance by Dani.

I thought this graphic novel captured the spirit of Moning's books, and (as an added bonus) the art was very nice.

Recommended for rabid fans of the Fever series.

The Story:

I am a mega fan of Karen Marie Moning so I just had to check this graphic novel out. FEVER MOON: THE FEAR DORCHA is a brand new story that happens around Dreamfever/Shadowfever time. If you haven’t finished reading the series, there is some mention of events that happen in the books that will be spoilery, so read at your own risk! I liked the story with The Fear Dorcha. He’s was an unusual villain, but I thought the adaptation of Moning’s storyline into a graphic novel worked well. Every word counted and it was very tight and precise. It even captured the love/hate relationship between Mac and Barrons that are so essential in the Fever books. So much so, that it had me smirking as I read this book, reminding me of the times when I first read the Fever series.

The Characters:

Every major character in the Fever series makes an appearance, the only exception being V’lane. He is only mentioned in passing. But Barrons, Mac, Dani, Kat, Ryoden and even Rowena are all present. It was nice to see the visual adaptation since they are so vastly different from what I picture in my head.

The Art:

The number one reason I got this graphic novel is because of the art. I love Al Rio and I loved his depiction of Mac. She’s just so hot! I love the way he is able to infuse such sensuality in every single one of his pages. It’s one of his special gifts. If you don’t know already, tragedy hit while making this graphic novel. In the few years it took to make this, they lost Al Rio. In his place, they brought in fellow Brazilian artist, Cliff Richards to come in to finish the last chapter. You can definitely see the difference in art work. I hate to say this but I much prefer Rio’s artwork to Richards’. But I feel like if the entire novel was illustrated by Richards’, I wouldn’t have made this one complaint. It just felt that in comparison to Rio’s book, Cliff’s part didn’t have the essence of the Fever series that Rio so expertly captured with his drawings. Nevertheless, I love the colors and thought that this was worthwhile.

The Bonus stuff:

At the end of the graphic novel, Moning writes a few pages that include her random notes on the Fever series. These include spoilers and character notes. There are also a few prelim sketches of each of the major characters so readers can see what it takes to make a picture come to life. All this is great if you’re interested in art as I am.

The Bottom Line??

Fans of the Fever series will definitely enjoy this adaptation. Though I don’t think it encompasses all that KMM is able to infuse in her books, there’s still a lot here that captures the Fever world and KMM’s style. It was an enjoyable read.

4.5 It wasn't quite a 5 for me, but it was close.

I'd forgotten how much I love the Fever world. This one seems to fit in right in the middle of Shadowfever. I loved all the notes and extras at the end, it was pretty cool to see.

Basically this is a short part of something that happened in Shadowfever that we never saw. I'm not one for manga or comics, so I wasn't sure I'd enjoy this-I was wrong. It was great. We see The Dreamy Eyed Guy, Barrons, Ryoden, Dani, Inspector Jayne, Rowena, and other sidhe-seers, V'lane and Christian Mackeltar are mentioned, and we meet Velvet. He's a lesser fae prince who cares little for humans and thinks they should worship fae. I want to see more of him in the next series (Dani's series is next up, come October).

Barrons was his usual self, and yet, I found him almost likeable in this. I did miss V'lane though. And Karen Marie Moning's note at the end about V'lane, the Unseelie King, and Barrons was so interestin. Just a slight change in perspective and any one of them might have been the hero.

For those of you who haven't read the Fever series, I'd suggest doing so. Now. Add this one to your tbr list and read it after you've been chewed up and spit out by the Fever books.

I love all things Fever but if this also helps Al Rio's family in any way I am all for the purchase of this book. Please buy this book everyone!! Rest in Peace Al...I am in awe of your talent as an artist. Your gift will live on.

Edit since purchasing...

I love this book. It's like an appetizer of further depth into Shadowfever. Absolutely stunning artwork with the same spark and snarky-ness between Mac and Barrons you would expect. I miss them!!! lol...Go and buy this book even to keep as a piece of artwork as it is very beautiful to look at and it was great to have some of the Fear Dorcha explained.

Review with possible spoilers. I have mixed feelings about Fever Moon. I am simply overwhelmed by the beautiful artwork. Al Rio did amazing work, and I would recommend this book to anyone based on the artwork, alone. So sad that Al Rio is no longer with us, and I am sad for Karen Marie Moning and the sense of loss she must be feeling. I have never ventured into the world of a graphic novel until now, and I was unsure what to expect. Karen and Al both did an excellent job of presenting this story. The graphic artwork is amazing in that it really compensates for the lack of written descriptions of action taking place and locations found in Karen's Fever world, descriptions which a reader would normally find in a regular novel, but instead experiences through sketches. Karen has always been very descriptive in her Fever series, so the artwork really helped to get the flavor the Abbey, Chester's, Barrons Books and Baubles and how she views each of her Fever characters. 5 Stars on the artwork, alone.

Clearly, there are events that occurred in the Fever series novels, including Shadowfever, which are referred to in Fever Moon in order to give the reader a back story. Involving events, characters and timeline, I came away from reading Fever Moon troubled with trying to reconcile the storyline with that of Shadowfever and Fever canon, particularly events involving Rowena, the Unseelie King, the Concubine, Mac's relationship with Dani, and the relationship between Mac and Barrons. I have found this disturbing because Fever is my absolute favorite series, and Moning my favorite author.

In general, I struggle with graphic novels because I like to picture the characters with my own imagination, and I generally dislike how they are defined for me. in this particular comic it went with a very traditional comic book route of the women all featured as all boobs and tiny waists, slutty clothes that's just gross objectification of women and the men are all overly muscular and huge. It's like a parody of the characters that cheapens them for me. The books are way better than this. Even Dani, the skinny awkward 14 year has boobs and curves - eewwww. Also they depict the rape scene with her biting her lip in lust and all, super ewwwwww. And lets not forget the gratuitous scene where Mac is lounging in a red lace bra and thong and a see-through robe thing with feathers around the edge and answers the door wearing it. Everyone is trying to kill her and she answers the door in her underwear. why oh why would KMM sign off on this?? Not my kind of comic.

Also this book has major spoilers if you haven't read book 5 of the "fever" series. i feel like they should give you some sort of warning that definitely don't read this if you haven't gotten to book five or at least gotten to the fear dorcha part of book 5 of the series.

Ultimately I don't think it added anything to the series. It's worth skimming through it if you're a diehard fan of he series I suppose, but I would say its more for library checkout than purchase.

Great Graphic Novel. From front to back it will only take you a couple hours to read. BUT for a real FEVER or KMM fan, this book is a keeper. I normally read everything on my nook, but ordered this book from B&N so I could see it and feel it, and boy was it worth it. The book is beautifully done, and if you love, or have ever loved the look of a good comic, this has a got it all.
The storyline didn't seem like anything entirely new. It didn't pick up where her last book ended, which I thought it would. That was the only thing that was a little dissapointing to me.
Mac and Barrons were still on that weird fence with eachother. ((the right after he brought her back from being Priya but not quite so far as to when she "thought" she killed him and realized she loved him part))
I thought we were going to jump into them, almost like a couple. (well, as "couplish" as Mac and Barrons can be, lol)
The graphics were amazing. I love Dani's the most I think. I really pictured Dani to look like she was drawn. And Dreamy Eyed Guy was delicious.
Barrons, was every bit of man I expected him to be, so no dispointment there. But unfortunately the only time we get a real steamy M&B moment was when he was taking Velvet's name off her tongue...(YUM)

Get the book, display it like a real KMM fan. It will be fun to re-read over again. I am kinda hoping for a second graphic novel...:)

I don’t regret buying this book! It was a little expensive but since this is such an old series you don’t get to see many fan arts around. This was like getting a ton of fan art all at once and I’m here for it! It was incredible! After finishing the first five books getting to see a fan art of Dani, Barrons and Mac and specially to see what the monsters looked like was a real treat. I love animations and graphic novels and this artist did such a great job. It looks so classic. I loved it!!
The story is very short but amusing if you have read the whole series and if you already know everything behind it (there are tons of spoilers so don’t pick this up before you finish the first five books) It is like a very cool Easter egg that was published for the hard core fever fans. I would love to get my hands on a physical copy even though they are a little rare to find!
Also getting to read Karen’s insights on how she came up with the whole series and her own thoughts about her characters made this Graphic Novel even more special (there is a little interview with her at the end). I am excited I basically got to see all of this fan art of the world I spent so much time loving and imagining it and living in.
