I'm starting The Mistress of Husaby: aka "The Wife" by Sigrid Undset, which is part two of Kristin Lavransdatter.

I enjoyed this one, too.

Portnoy's Complaint by Philip Roth. Having just finished Janet Frame's 'Faces in the Water' I'm not sure that this is a wise choice to follow up with.

Me too, one of my absolutely favorites from the list.
I started The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo today.

A frog walks into a bank and goes up to the loan officer. She is sitting behind a desk, and her name plate reads: P. Whack. When the frog asks for a loan, Ms. Whack says, "What do you offer for collateral?" The frog replies, "I have this little jade elephant." Ms. Whack dubiously approaches the bank manager for guidance. The bank manager looks back and forth between the loan officer and the customer and finally says, "It's a knick-knack, Patty Whack! Give the frog a loan!"

I went to the library to pick up Midaq Alley for March's group read. I was pleased to see that the copy they had also contained Miramar. So, since I am a bit early for the March read. I will start with Miramar and read it next.

I am renting it from Kindle (US). It is pricey, but much cheaper than buying it.
The author's name is spelled differently, too: https://www.amazon.com/Land-Park-eboo...

I started Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. I'm planning to read a chapter or two each night. There are a couple of other books I want to finish first. One of them is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy by John le Carré which I just started too.

Les Mis is one of my all time favorites. It is best savored slow. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Thanks, I am not sure I can use this as I'm outside the States but it may be useful.
Korean names are transcribed in radically different names all across the board. It is very unfortunate, I can get around it when the hangul is provided as I can read it, but it hardly ever is. Apart from the spelling proper, the way the name is broken down- whether generational name and given name get bundled together, or separated by a dash- also varies.
To make matters even worse, place names also get different transliterations: the city of [부산] used to be rendered as 'Pusan' but now it is 'Busan'. North Korean spelling keeps [ㅂ] as 'P' but Western authors often ignore it altogether and keep to the more common South Korean way of writing it. Which causes extra confusion.
