What are you reading right now? How is the book so far?

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Hidden Mickey- literally have it open and reading as I type. :) It's getting better than when I started. I'm about halfway through and I'm getting more used to the story and it has picked up a bit. I also enjoy learning facts and tidbits of the history of Disney and Walt himself. :)Hidden Mickey

Fun!
I'm reading It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde . :D

message 4: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments And how are they so far?

message 5: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn Broad (katelynb) | 717 comments Mod
Haha good question-I was in a hurry. They are both really good so far, especially The Picture of Dorian Gray. It is so well written! I'm not very far in the other one yet.

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Awesome. :)

Now I'm reading American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis -which is disturbing..., Frankenstein by Mary Shelley -which is actually very interesting and I'm enjoying it, despite thinking it would be boring, and listening to Everbound (Everneath, #2) by Brodi Ashton which is great. :D

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments American Psycho does sound disturbing. I've meaning to read Frankenstein so you'll have to tell me what you think when you're finished and I don't think I've ever heard of Everbound..

message 9: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments P.S. your 'Group Rule' makes me smile every time I read it. :)

message 10: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments And I can't help reading it in his voice. :D

message 11: by Katelyn (new)

Katelyn Broad (katelynb) | 717 comments Mod
Everbound is the sequel to Everneath and I got them both on audio. :)

I like the group rule too haha. It pretty much sums up every group rules we could possibly have.

message 13: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Cool. :)

message 14: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Right? It's most excellent! :)

It is most definitely not bogus.

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Haha! Most definitely not! :)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Yippee!! I'm finally done with that darned book! 'Hidden Mickey' My overall impression? I didn't like it. Sure, learning about some of the trivia was fun, but that was really about it. It was supposed to be kind of a mystery as it takes you on a treasure hunt, but it was lacking. I could easily stop in the middle of anywhere in the book and be fine with not going back to it for days when a good book will keep me reading far longer than I should and I can't put it down. Also, these characters were idiots. Far too often, I would call the answer to "the clue" well before they would and yet they're supposed to be these big Disney Buffs. Not very good character development. And their "mission" went far too uninterrupted, sure, there were a few close calls, but then they were "safe". Boring. There was one twist that I didn't see coming, but it was short-lived. I often found myself skimming through paragraphs and counting pages 'til the next chapter, feeling like it would never end. It also left a few loose ends, which bothers me. It doesn't feel like it really ended. Not so much like a cliff hanger, just that it just didn't end. To top it off, I spotted many grammar errors in the book. All in all, I couldn't wait to get this book over with. Disappointing.

Awww, I'm glad you're done with it. So no sequel? Lol.

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments If I can find the second one on audio book, I MIGHT give it a slight chance to see if it can redeem itself, but I'm not going to attempt to read another, no.

Yeah, they don't even have the first on audio yet.

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments Yeah, I noticed that or I would have done that instead. :)

Right now I'm reading Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2) by Kami Garcia and I think it's good so far, better than the first one. I'm almost done with Frankenstein by Mary Shelley (I really like it so far!) and when I finish I will start The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd .

message 23: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments All right. I've just finished The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore. It was definitely better than Hidden Mickey! ;) As far as Young Adult mysteries go, I guess this was pretty good. It was definitely plenty descriptive. It was like you were right there with them. However, there's something about it that I didn't quite like, but I can't really put my finger on it.. When I finished, my reaction was kind of like a "Huh, OK." and that was it. It was an OK book to read once. Entertaining enough, but I wouldn't read it again.
I am now starting Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher and Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card

message 24: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments I'm also in the middle of reading The Chronicles of Narnia (Chronicles of Narnia #1-7) by C.S. Lewis , The Lost Tribe (The Book of Mormon Sleuth, Vol. 2) by C.B. Andersen and Kylerian

You got through that one fast. :) Glad you liked it better than Hidden Mickey.

I just finished Promise (Soul Savers, #1) by Kristie Cook and I enjoyed it-it definitely exceeded my expectations since it was free on my kindle. I feel like paranormal/dystopian books are very hit or miss for me. Many worlds are so much fun to read about yet some are boring or not described well. I was glad that this book was good at keeping my interest.

message 26: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments It was an easy read. :)

I'm glad yours was good. I'll have to look into it. ^_^

I hate The Picture of Dorian Grey. That is a horrible book! just putting my 2 cents in. :) haha

Well, if you decide you want to read the second one, I have about a dozen copies I need to get rid of. Just saying. :)

message 34: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments ...You have a dozen copies of Hidden Mickey 2? ...Why...?

I totally agree. I just started reading The Eleventh Plague by Jeff Hirsch and its pretty good. it more how I think society would really react/function after some major thing that up ended society as we know it.

message 41: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments ...Wow! This book, Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher , really makes you think and messes with your emotions. It was really well written and very descriptive. It was believable and very easy to picture everything that was going on and share in the character's feelings. I couldn't put it down and I was very satisfied with the ending. Great book!

I agree 100%! I had a really hard time knowing how to feel about the captor... I knew logically that he's a bad guy and blah blah blah but I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.

message 43: by Amy (new)

Amy Fredlund | 190 comments The author does a really good job at making you feel for and understand his reasoning.

Right now I'm reading The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien and Remember Me (Remember Me, #1) by Christopher Pike . Both are good so far but I'm not far into either. I'm also listening to Ender's Game. I think I would like it more if I was reading it. I don't like the narrator much.

Right now I'm still getting through The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien and while I like it, it's taking me a while. I'm also reading King Hall by Scarlett Dawn (which I'm enjoying so far, it's a book of the month in another group I'm in), The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (which I just started and am really enjoying), and I'm rereading Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . I started rereading Divergent this morning because the next book comes out in October so I figure I should start rereading the series now. I can't stop reading it; I forgot how much I love this book. October is taking forever!

Yay! I need to buy that book as a hard copy. I finished Divergent in the wee hours of the morning but if I wanna get any sleep tonight I'm gonna have to try to hold off on reading Insurgent.
