I loved that book. I read it so long ago. I should re-read that.

I am the moderator for the Club Inter'l of Portland, Oregon book group.
Our September Selection is The Orphan Train.

I hope you enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird. I did. And I also love Grisham. I recommend A Time to Kill and the Pelican Brief.

This is on my 'to-read' list! I've heard lots of good things, so I'm looking forward to reading it!!

Right now, I am trying to pick between reading The King's General or Because of Mr. Terupt. Anyone can recommend?

Genre Young Adult Fantasy. A little bit of romance is okay too.

I wrote a review on Goodreads but this one actually describes the book better. Definitely a MUST READ.
"A great emotional roller coaster of a book. You will be taken through all the trials and tribulations, laughter and love of the owners of the initials carved in the beech tree. Not content with just that, the author then weaves all these lives into interconnectedness as the story progresses, and then finally when you least expect it, throws some wonderful twists into the mix towards the end. Entertaining reading that will draw you into every characters life, tissues needed for the tears of laughter as much as the sad moments.
Somehow, the author makes the unfairness of life readable, whether it be brutality, bigotry or racism, pointedly and atmospheric without overdoing it.
Nostalgic and emotional reading, short chapters make it ideal for those with a busy lifestyle who want to read for five minutes at a time, or holiday reading where you can just get stuck in and savour the intense feelings." - Robin Houghton
There are numerous reviews here on Goodreads but also on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Beech-Tree-Don...

My review: http://whatchatreadin.blogspot.com/20...

Exactly! I can't fathom wasting time on a bad book when there are so many great books to be read in a lifetime!

I LOVED this one- need to find more books about the Manson-ish cult in the late '60's. Ate up every single word.

My name is Michele. I recently joined this book club, and I'm ecstatic to be amongst other voracious readers! I love learning about new reads, along with the readers' commentaries. A book that I'm currently engrossed in is Cecily Wong's DIAMOND HEAD. The story line revolves around several generations of Chinese and Hawaiian women, their histories, and their emotional connection with a member of their family who dies. This is the author's debut novel. It is well-written and the cultural traditions of China and Hawaii well-imagined. Having visited Hawaii years ago, visiting the Diamond Head volcano -Needless to say, Wong's moving story is bringing back fond memories for me. A great read!

This sounds really interesting. Did you read Alan Brannert's Molokai. It is very interesting Here's my review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Hi, I do recommend the movie!! Its good, I dare to say...better than the book. Enjoy!

I will admit this is not a book for just anyone. It is dark, raw, and grotesque. It defies morals and really made me wonder what some people are really capable of. It's different and disturbing.
I recommend it but with caution. It is a FANTASTIC read, but touches on MANY taboo scenarios. If you are offended by sex, gore, and language, DON'T read it because you will not finish it. If you crave something different and unique and don't care about cursing, sex, violence and gore, READ IT! You will not be sorry and you will certainly never forget it.
Currently reading The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken. Also loving it, but like Culmination, it's dark and disturbing. Maybe there's a correlation... Maybe I'm disturbed:). Kidding. Or not? lol
