Ethar | 3 comments Hi ,
I am currently reading Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs

message 2358: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello to everyone who reads here! I am currently reading Gone with the Wind. The movie is one of my favourites, and I thought that at some point I should read the book. I am loving it. It depicts the situation and the atmosphere of the south so vividly, that it feels as if you were there. However, I got this idea that it depicts life at the plantations a bit (or a lot...) idealised, and I kind of doubt it was like that. On the other hand, I am getting some information on the American civil war and the politics at the time, which is interesting. Somewhere here, I have to admit that the description of the KKK was a bit shocking, as I think the underestimates the severity of their actions, and somehow it justifies its existence, but not openly. Anyway, the book does not condemn them, and that by itself was disturbing. Reading that part was upsetting. So, considering the faults, if I may say, of the political aspects of the book, I am enjoying it a lot. The characters are very well depicted and the life, at least the life of the rich people, is well described. In overall, I am enjoying a lot reading this book, I think it is a great piece of literature, as long as you don't take it literally. If anyone, has suggestions of book referring to that time/place, I would be very interesting. Thank you!
