Britany | 930 comments Back from vacation so a couple to catch up on:

Finished Furiously Happy A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson by Jenny Lawson 4 stars. Another wonderfully funny and poignant account of the author's struggle with depression. Highly recommend the audio version read by the author.

also finished Good as Gone by Amy Gentry by Amy Gentry 3 Stars. I wanted this thriller to be as good as I had anticipated, but the ending fell apart for me, and the the chapter layout was confusing at times.

message 2569: by Angel (new)

Angel Strong | 7 comments Hi Angela,

If you're looking for a thrilling romance, I'd highly recommend my debut novel (Thandi's Love), a historical romance set in the mid-1800's. The story is filled with touching moments, surprising twist, conflicts, secrets, and ultimately loss. But most of all it is a story of undeniable love.

message 2571: by martin eden (new)

martin eden Hi! I'm currently reading Le Charme Discret de L'Intestin by Giulia Enders (It's a translation from German and I know it was translated into English -Gut: The Inside Story of Our Body's Most Underrated Organ ). So it's all about our gastrointestinal system. It's very well written, full of humour and most importantly accessible to novices!
That's really interesting and I'm learning and discovering things about my body that could explain lots of my health troubles.

I'm also reading Lamentation by CJ Sansom. I'm enjoying it.
And finally I've started reading The Silmarillion by Tolkien. I loved The Lord Of The Rings series and The Hobbit. But here, the writing style is different, so I was a little bit confused at the beginning. But now, I'm enjoying it too.

Synopsis

Trisha aka Trish was a typical 15 year old good girl from a urban neighborhood. She grew up in areas most people would condemn a "ghetto" but to her it was home. She was a great student who kept her grades up with no other focus than keeping her eyes on being a success in life. She was the second oldest in her single parent household after her older brother Tracy and followed by her twin younger siblings Tron and Triece. She was raised by her single mother Ms. Smith who constantly attempted to fill her head with advice on dealing with her life decisions.

All of Trish's goals and focuses come to a halt when she is approached by a much older man by the name of Ryan aka Rain. Rain was a big name street figure who came into Trish's life and exposed her to the gilts and glamour fast money could bring. His pretty boy appearance and constant display of affection for Trish had her mind wide open to any and everything he wanted to do with her. He was a grown man molding a girl in transition to being a woman, into a puppet for his own personal use.

Trish was also being adored by her older brother Tracy's best friend Jay. Jay was a young man on his way to graduate high school trying to find his path in life as a man. He was in love with Trish and was not afraid to let her or her family know how deep his feelings were for her. Trish could see his repetitive attempts to gain her attention, but did not have time for a good boy with no money. She was lost in a world where easy money and verbal reminders meant more than respect and self love. In time chasing a man like Rain would lead her to situations no young girl should have to face on their own.

This is Trisha's story...

Kathryn Hurn (kathrynhurn) | 22 comments HELL HEAVEN & IN-BETWEEN: One Woman's Journey to Finding Love

My name is Kathryn Hurn and I'm excited to announce my debut novel, HELL HEAVEN & IN-BETWEEN: One Woman's Journey to Finding Love . If you enjoyed Jane Eyre (virtue), Villette (strength), anything by Jane Austen (love), Lady Chatterley's Lover (passion), The Rainbow (agency), Bridget Jones Diary (humor) and other empowering books featuring strong women I invite you to take a look.

“HELL IS THE WASTELAND. The point when you have stopped being yourself…”

This is the personal history, the loves and losses of Lucy Bell, whose life as a young woman was blown off course and her attempts to right her way seemed a labyrinth of griefs and disappointments. But life isn’t just what happens to you. And heaven is there in the blue sky for all to see.

“For most people, their wedding day seemed like heaven on earth, to me it was hell, H, E, double toothpicks.”

Darkly funny and uncommonly frank, Lucy recounts an unforgettable emotional and spiritual journey from darkness and error to light and knowledge, her sense of isolation, unfulfilled longing and struggle for personal fulfillment, to finally arrive at love’s threshold feeling the joy and peace of having discovered her proper place in the world.

“…marrying a man whose one-dimensional, good-ole-boy persona couldn’t possibly guess the depths of my raging passions nor ever wish to know of their existence.”

Healing, like the gaining of wisdom, is not a power outside your self. A young woman breaks up her sham of a marriage to a husband whose less-than-honest dealings do more harm than he will ever admit, embarks on a journey to independence and authenticity, then in a poetic vision falls madly in love with an erudite mountaineer who proposes from the top of a 8,000-meter peak only to disappear in the glint of an ice storm. Between the explained and the unexplained a mystery lies.

“Leaving for Annapurna on 4/5, Snow Leopard baby…I love you in so many ways…”

Would love to hear your thoughts and reactions.

All my best,
Kathyn

Lily | 1 comments Howdy! I'm currently about halfway thru Luminary by P.S. Meraux . It's different from other YA stuff I've read. I like that that author puts me in the head of not only the female protagonist but also the male ones as well. You get to read what they're all thinking/feeling, about any situation.
