McCabe Leeda (WeepingDance) | 1 comments Fanchon's Daughter is the story of Faye Hueston's adoption into great fame and wealth. Her mother Fanchon was the first female Hollywood producer.

What's interesting about the book is, it takes you back to a time of the celebrity greats, the movie stars among movie stars and living life among them.

More than that, the author describes not only her life among her famous mother and successful businessman father but her desire and search for her birth parents, her toils and struggles.

An interesting twist comes along when Faye Hueston seeks out a famous psychic.

I also noted that Faye Hueston was in the movies herself. She was called Faye Marlowe and I found some great memorabilia in eBay.

Well written book and a good read.

Laura Rogers | 1 comments Hi! My name is Laura. I am retired due to illness and spend a lot of time reading. I was reading Hag-Seed, Eligible and Versions of Us -all recent finds at the library. But then yesterday I got Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children in the mail from Thriftbooks (an awesome website) and I can't put it down. I'm so glad I didn't get to see the movie first! It is technically a YA book but I am way older than that and I love it!

Sandra | 23 comments The author, Charlene Carr, has a great "New Start Series" which includes: Skinny Me, Where There is Life, By What We Love, Forever in My Heart, Whispers of Hope and a novella Before I Knew You. She also has a stand-alone: Beneath The Silence. I found these all good and I am looking forward to her Trilogy: 'behind our lives' coming out shortly. I am currently reading an ARC of Book 1. Also, looking forward to starting some books I recently purchased by Jodi Picoult. What was your favourite by her?

She also has a New Start Series with five books and a novella - women's fiction - which I loved (first two free), and a stand-alone Beneath the Silence. Shanel | 1 comments I'm reading Orange is the New Black. I wanted to see if the book was as interesting as the show. In my opinion, it is a little more tame and go's more into detail about how the prison facilities are ran and the mental challenges that different people face. It kept me interested. I liked the fact that it was a little different from the show. It's a good either before or after watching the netflix series.

Terri Kleinberg | 2 comments Currently, I'm reading Nest by Terry Goodkind. This is a departure from his series that began with the Sword of Truth. His books are character driven, and he is able to write strong women, which are very nice to read. This is a thriller set in present day. I'm about half way through so no spoilers.

I am currently reading "The Secret Countess" by Eva Ibbotson and completed it. Nice book for ladies. Anna, a Countess poses as a maid servant and works for the Earl , Rupert's family. She has a handsome cousin Sergei, who also loves her. Eventually, her brother Peter reveals her true identity . The Earl proposes to her and they get married. I liked the book particularly for the ballroom parties, costumes and ornate jewellery.

message 2699: by Leonore (last edited Nov 30, 2016 04:55PM) (new)

Leonore White | 2 comments Hi everyone! I am currently reading "Mountains High Valleys Low", a young woman's search for God, faith, strength and herself by Julisha Lansiquot. This book is about the journey of a 26 year old christian woman's walk that celebrates a love found, grapples to understand a love betrayed, and a love lost. You will cry with her in this heart breaking love story and laugh with her as she triumphs over adversity. she is encouraging readers and letting them know that they overcome anything and any obstacles that they may face as long as they don’t ever give up on themselves and put God first. “We truly live in a world that seemingly makes a conscientious effort to break hearts of gold. Where trust, respect, love, and faith, in my experience, are attributes no longer esteemed valuable or notable for sustaining relationships. In other words, the reward for giving love, loyalty, and commitment, was betrayal and heartbreak. Thus, was birthed, within these pages are my experiences in heartache, hardship, and hindrances. However, do not walk away with the notion that life is fraught with pain and strife; on the contrary, grasp the revelation and the deeper purpose within them. That is, let the lessons I learned, the support I received, and the strength I found to trust God’s plan for my life help you to understand that life is truly a gift and each day worth living.” (part of her preface) I strongly recommend this book to everyone especially young women who have given their all to men that broke their hearts. It shows you how she overcame and rose above the hurt and pains. below is her website www.julishalansiquot.com
