C.A. Larmer (calarmer) Just finished Aussie crime writer Katherine Howell's The Darkest Hour, not her best book but worthwhile if you're into this kind of thing, and starting on Jo Nesbo's Nemesis which delves into Norway's dark underbelly. (You can see where my tastes lie.) Oh, and Lonely Planet's Western Europe as I plot and plan my upcoming holiday/novels (set in Germany and Greece).

Thinking of starting a re read of A Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire, #1) by George R.R. Martin before supernova in Brisbane

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Still on The Fall of Berlin 1945 - I need to get my act together, I've been really slack the last couple of weeks.

I'm reading The Harp In The South for my bookclub read at the moment. It's a shame, as it has to be read by the 30th, so I can't include it for August;)

Amy | 23 comments I have just started The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. I am enjoying it, I just have to stop myself from picturing Sheldon from Big Bang or Spencer from Criminal Minds as Don, the main character lol.

as an exercise in literary criticism, my plan is to have my review analyse the mythology of vampirism as well as the escapist nature of this book (fantasy vs reality). You can read my reasoning about reading Twilight here; http://literary-exploration.com/2013/...

I'm outside the main demographic of this book, so it might of been a different book to what you've read.

message 5695: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Every book is different for everybody. I can understand why people would hate Twilight and no one can understand why Harry Potter just doesn't flick a switch on me.
I have Twilight on my shelf under the Poisonwood Bible and Ulysses is down the bottom. You get what you get from each, and Twilight gave me a sense of escapism for sure.
Ulysses gave me a migraine. I always giggle when critics tear books apart for bad grammar and praise a book for having 20,000 pages (or so it feels) without a full stop.
I use Joyce as a step so I can reach for Twilight. Ha ha ha.
But the Poisonwood is the best of the three all round :) At the end of the day, every book is my friend :)

No, same book! I will agree with anyone who says it is not the best written book ever but hey it captured the imagination of thousands of people ( and not all of them were teenagers by a long shot). It had to have something going for it.

I would have to say Fifty Shades of Grey books were much worse!!!

message 5698: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Fifty Shades of grey and Twilight aren't even in the same postcode, lol. Stephanie Meyer is a writer, E.L James is a storyteller. In my humble opinion anyway :)

You're a woman, you still fall into the target demographic

message 5700: by S.K. (new)

S.K. Munt (wordwhisperer) Ew who wants to be in a demographic? I don't read chic-lit or Harlequin, I'm 30, my favourite writers are Koontz, Laymon and King and I don't like any other vampire book aside from Dracula so I don't think I do technically fit into the Twilight Demographic at all.
My husband, on the other hand devours every vampire/highschool/angel/werewolf paranormal romance going.
