Anthea Sharp (antheasharp) | 11 comments Just started The Hum and the Shiver and am liking it so far. Anything with music-related magic rocks my boat (to mix a metaphor).

Finished glomming all the Rosemary and Rue October Daye books, and am bummed that the series is down to one release a year. Guess I should take a look at Storm Front for my next series affair?

message 52: by Mohrravvian (new)

Mohrravvian | 99 comments I've decided to tackle Les Miserables... at 1450 pages, it will probably be my alternate book in July also! I'm also reading Star Wars: Darth Plagueis which is a fun quick read alongside Les Mis, and then I just received Joyland and plan to read that this month too if possible. Among Others didn't look that appealing judging by the description so I am giving that one a pass.

message 53: by Nancy (new)

Nancy O'Toole (temporaryworlds) | 135 comments I'm readingA Star Shall Fall by Marie Brennan which is quite good historical fantasy. I'm listening to the audiobook of Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, which is good but not as strong as his Mistborn trilogy.

Next up, Hugh Howey's Shift. I must be all caught up for when Dust comes out this summer!

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I've been listening to Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation by Michael Pollan for what seems like forever. In print, I'm 100 pages into Infinite Jest by DFW, and liking it so far.

message 55: by Markt5660 (new)

Markt5660 Still working on Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph. Should have it finished in June and then back to some more SF.

Oh! I saw the review on that one this morning!!!! it looks so good! But I'm so behind with everything else I have to be good and not buy anymore new books:/

It gets better. There is a scene about 2/3's through which will make you want to scream in triumph. The scene though out of context wouldn't make any sense as to why it would do that though: (view spoiler)

message 59: by Brandon (new)

Brandon | 33 comments I'm reading the lost symbol by Dan Brown right now.

Pamela D (funisreading) | 42 comments Rik wrote: "Abaddon's Gate came out yesterday."

I know! I am so excited! My library changed the book's call number from "On Order" to the actual call number. I should be able to get it today or tomorrow! Squee.

I have been trying to get my husband to read Leviathan Wakes, but he is just dragging with it. He admitted to reading to reading spoilers, and I think the book lost its blockbuster appeal. :(

message 61: by Daran (new)

Daran | 599 comments So far, The Rithmatist, Throne of the Crescent Moon, The Yiddish Policemen's Union, and A Hologram for the King.

Trying to throw some non genre stuff in there after realizing I've been living on a steady diet of fantasy and science fiction for more than a year.

message 62: by Ty (new)

Ty Wilson (ShatterStar66) | 165 comments I decided to read World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War before the movie opens. I'm also reading Dragondrums, Grifter's Game and Lash. As soon as I get one of these done I'm going to jump into Inferno.

message 63: by Julian (new)

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2667 comments My current reading - Among Others, Robinson Crusoe and Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. Waiting on the mail for my copy of Grifter's Game for my other book club.

message 66: by Michele (new)

Michele | 1154 comments Burned through The Traveller and remembered thatvI didn't much like book 2 and decided not to read any more of them at least for now. Found myself unable to pay attention to Anathem in audio, have to give it up. Reading Cat's Cradle and loving it so far. Will be listening to Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody mysteries, because I'm in the mood.

message 67: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 2433 comments Finished Scourge of the Betrayer, which was excellent, and started another Night Shade book, Miserere: An Autumn Tale by Teresa Frohock.

Strange there won't be an audiobook out for this one? I can't find anything ..."

They often appear a little while later, though Audible seems to be pushing the preorder concept more lately.

David(LA,CA) (davidscharf) | 327 comments I don't know where I left off the last time I posted.

My progress through the Dresden Files saw me finish up Changes last night. I'll be moving on to Ghost Story tonight.

Have been listening to Among Others. I've finished part 1, and will likely start part 2 this afternoon.

message 71: by Lainey (new)

Lainey (ewriter91) | 22 comments Just finished Among Others. I'm currently reading Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. After that I'll probably get started on my annual three Terry Pratchett novels. Also just bought The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which I've been meaning to get to for quite some time.

I finished Death Masks (My Review).

Taking a short pause with my Dresden audio "re-read" to do the Novella Fast Times at Fairmont High for SffAudio

I'm also starting Count Zero.

message 73: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin | 4407 comments I started Among Others in audio and I'm loving it. I also have it on my Kindle from last year's Hugo packet, but I'm really enjoying the audio.

I'm still reading the one from my friend. Among Others is taking most of my attention, though.

message 74: by Brew (new)

Brew | 44 comments I am really enjoying The Dying Earth by Jack Vance. I am sorry it took his passing to prompt me to seek out his work.

message 76: by Sasha (new)

Sasha (n7geek) | 15 comments finished Abaddon's Gate yesterday. Didn't quite like characters as much as the other two books but still a very enjoyable read and really really looking forward to more!

You are seriously messing up my to-read schedule today.

message 83: by AndrewP (new)

AndrewP (andrewca) | 2667 comments Finished Among Others, which I gave a 3 star okay/meh rating. Started Grifter's Game and more than half way through already. Should also finish up the audio book of Robinson Crusoe during tomorrows commute. After that I will have a few weeks to read non-bookclub stuff.

message 84: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (einahpets_reads) So far this month I've read Railsea, Among Others and Forged in Blood I... I am starting American Gods today and plan on trying to tackle some of the books that have been on my to-read list for awhile after that (Etiquette & Espionage, Redshirts (if it is not selected for next month's bookclub), The Killing Moon, His Majesty's Dragon).

I am catching up from the last few months; my daughter was born in April.

message 87: by Brandon (new)

Brandon | 33 comments No I haven't seen the movie, but will after I read it. I heard it's good though.

message 88: by Kristen (new)

Kristen (tealbard) | 35 comments I just finished "The Wise Man's Fear" and bits of it vaguely reminded me of McKillip's Riddle-Master Trilogy, so I think I'll reread that next. I'm also still working through "Among Others" but finding it to be slow going.

message 89: by Patrick (new)

Patrick Davis | 9 comments Just finished Abbadon's Gate. Corey hasn't lost their touch for action and tension-building. Btw the audio is expected to come out September 1st. Broke down and had to get it on Kindle, but I'll have to hear how Jefferson Mays narrates this one. I like his Amos voice.

I also finished it last night-so good! Couldn't put it down.

message 91: by Laura (new)

Laura (conundrum44) | 109 comments I finished Something M.Y.T.H. Inc. today. So, that's off my bucket list. I'll start River of Blue Fire tonight.

message 92: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 2433 comments Finished Miserere: An Autumn Tale, which I highly recommend, and started The Best of Robert E. Howard: Crimson Shadows.

message 93: by Darren (new)

Darren Re-reading Captain Alatriste. I really could not get into it the first time I tried, but this time I'm really enjoying it.

message 94: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) | 2702 comments Finished Abaddon's Gate. Really didn't like it which saddens me. Now back to The Lies of Locke Lamora.

Jim Heivilin | 45 comments I'm reading Viper Pilot: A Memoir of Air Combat and am really enjoying it.

message 96: by Geir (new)

Geir (makmende) Wading into the Among Others book list with Dying Inside. So far I like it rather better than Among Others itself.

message 97: by Nancy (new)

Nancy O'Toole (temporaryworlds) | 135 comments Just started The Warrior's Apprentice on audio. So far, it's a lot of fun!

message 98: by Dharmakirti (new)

Dharmakirti | 942 comments I'm reading Declare and am enjoying it.

message 99: by bookthump (new)

bookthump | 44 comments I'm seeing a lot of love for Abaddon's Gate, which is nice. I haven't started Caliban's War yet so I'll have to wait a bit before I continue that journey. I just finished Under the Dome and loved it. Going to finish the month with Jo Nesbø's The Snowman. I had no idea this was book seven in a series so I am hoping that doesn't negatively affect my understanding or enjoyment.

message 100: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 701 comments Just finished Bitter Seeds which was really good, a lot more serious and thoughtfully written than I was expecting from the blurb. Very well researched too.
Now I'm reading The Shining Girls. I'm just a couple of chapters in but the writing so far is superb. Very atmospheric and simultaneously it doesn't pull any punches.
