There are four of us reading it, does that pour more fuel on the fire? :o

Oh man, Changes...that was the book where I finally caught up with the series and had to wait for Butcher to write the next one. Drove me insane.

Anthony Jones (ajones311) | 2 comments I've started reading Ready Player One, which I know the group has read at some point, but I hadn't joined by then. I'm not sure what to think about it. The story is good so far, but something about the writing is bugging me. Feel's like there's a lot of exposition about the world that takes me out of the narrative. Some explanation is fine, but I feel like the narrator goes a little overboard and I find myself skipping globs of text to get to the story. Meh, maybe it's just me.

I hope you like it! I loved that book (and the others in the first 2 sagas). I really need to get back to Midkemia.

I finished listening to Blood Rites (My Review).

I'm taking a short Dresden break to listen to the new Stephen King book: Joyland, for SFFAudio. Which at 7.5 hours might as well be a novella for him :)

Rob (quintessential_defenestration) | 1035 comments I finally finished David Foster Wallace's A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again which is amazing. It's a collection of essays, and I've been putting off finishing it as one of the essays is about a David Lynch movie that I finally saw yesterday.

I highly recommend it to basically everyone. DFW seems daunting and pretentious and impossible to read when you pick up his fiction, but his essays are just genuinely fun. The title essay is basically the best piece of nonfiction I've ever read. It's about his awful experience on a cruise ship, and you can find it if you just google "david foster wallace essay A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again pdf." It's fair use, uploaded as an article on educational websites.

Otherwise, finally reading The Name of the Wind which I started last september and had to put aside for Uni stuff.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 2898 comments I love that essay collection and think of it every time I'm on a cruise with my inlaws... I'm 200 pages into Infinite Jest, reading along with a summer group and having a blast.

message 121: by Rob (new)

Rob (quintessential_defenestration) | 1035 comments Nice! I'm also about 200 pages into Infinite Jest. I was just starting to really enjoy it, but I had to put it aside for a while, again, for school related reading. It's just too....engrossing? It takes up so much energy and time. Hoping to pick it up again sometime this summer, after the Rothfus and The Ocean at the End of the Lane which is out pretty soon.

I read the UK version of that which lumps a couple of the US books into one massive volume. Really enjoyed it and some of the sequals though :)

terpkristin | 4407 comments I finished and loved Among Others yesterday. For my next book (and possibly books), I'm going outside the genre a bit and reading Red Sparrow and possibly Inferno. I have both in audio form and am in need of something...that requires less of my brain right now. Plus I love the mystery/thriller/spy genre.

While I'm on this "break" from the genre in audio, I'm hoping to finish my friend's book (which is science fiction).

It looks like the July pick will be something I either read and didn't care for (Ringworld) or something I have no interest in reading (Redshirts). I kind of hope it's Ringworld, so that I don't feel compelled to read it (I am trying to read every S&L pick this year, unless I've already read them). If it's Redshirts, I'll end up reading it, but probably not until later in the month. Of course, who knows, maybe my pick will stage a come-from-behind win... ;)

Mark Kaye | 123 comments Just about to start Mass Effect: Ascension.

message 131: by Michele (new)

Michele | 1154 comments I'm pretty sure the author's preferred is the expanded version. The first two books were originally one giant book called Magician, publisher split it into Apprentice and Master. There should be an author's note at the beginning if you have the one where he fixed it up. Ahh Midkemia, how many wonderful hours I spent there. I'll have to reread the entire series sometime soon.

I finished reading Joyland, a bit different from Stephen King's usual fare IMHO, but I enjoyed it. (My Review).

I have resumed my Dresden audio "reread" with Dead Beat.

message 138: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 588 comments Finished The Alloy of Law. Liked it, but not as much as the other 3 Mistborn books. Started This Book Is Full of Spiders-and it's stared off just as insane as JDATE. Always nice to do something silly though.

terpkristin | 4407 comments I just realized The Ocean at the End of the Lane came out today so after a crazy morning, I grabbed it for Kindle and from Audible. It looks short, if I can keep my focus up, I may try to start it today/tonight. Else I should be able to dig into it on Thursday.

David (davidsandey) | 15 comments I'm closing out The Way of Kings which will be closely followed by either Bitter Seeds or Leviathan Wakes not sure which yet. I'm also reading The Outcasts with my son.

I'm going to get the copy from my library once their order is in.

message 143: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 1212 comments Did I mention that I finished listening to 2312. That was tough. I think I would have liked it better in print. It was just too complex for audio.

I also finished re-reading Among Others. I listened to the audiobook a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it. It was actually better the second time around and in print.

I also spent a couple of days listening to The Far Time Incident for an SFFAudio review. It's perfect for those who love Connie Willis's time travel novels.

I'm now uber-multitasking. In audio, I'm listening to Six Years by Harlan Coben. In print, I'm reading NOS4A2, Shine Shine Shine and 15 Seconds. I've also started a Kindle serial, Indexing by Seanan McGuire.

I hope to finish everything by the end of the month.

message 144: by Derek (new)

Derek (raistlinsghost) | 81 comments I've been putting off reading 11-22-63 from my reading list forever due to its length, but given that Among Others didn't do it for me, I figred no time like the present. The ending of The Dark Tower series left a bad taste in my mouth, so I've been off of Kiny ever since. I forgot what a great writer he can be. About 1/4 through and loving it so far. I just hope King leaves himself out of this one. ;)

I also finishes listening to The Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold. I think my enjoyment of the book was enhanced by getting to hear her interview on the podcast. So thanks Sword and Laser!
