Review
I have never read the series that is a spinoff to and so I am not familiar with this world at all. However, I had no trouble figuring out what was going on. From other reviews, it seems that the Luxen (an alien species on earth) are the good guys in the YA series but in this one, Hunter is the hero and he is an Arum (which hunts down the Luxen). Serena has witnessed an attack in which her best friend is killed and all of a sudden finds herself being hunted. I loved Hunter and Serena and I found the world that has been created to be completely fascinating.

Book: The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

Review:
I've been hearing a lot about this book for months and I think that's what put me off reading it. I don't like reading books with a lot of hype. I often find that they don't quite live up to my impossibly high expectations after hearing things like "the best book ever" and whatnot. And to top it off aliens? I'm not usually a fan of extra terrestrials..
But this book surprised me in a good way. It's interesting and there's always something happening. At times it was slightly predictable but that didn't detract from the overall story. Cassie is a strong main character and I liked her sarcastic nature and the fact she wasn't perfect (and I think I've been watching way too much reality tv because I was about to quote Americas next top model.. "Flaws are beautiful!")
Overall a great read and will definitely read the second book whenever it's released :)

Just me and Monica that need to finish this shelf!

Some stats:
17 shelves left
6 are winning shelves
They are: freebie (10), keepers(4), maybe(7), vampire(4), shifters(6,10), and urban fantasy(9)
35% chance of one of these being called next week.
Popular shelves (non-winning, but more teams at 4 in-a-row):
Reader's choice at 6 (2,3,8,9,12,13)
Supernatural at 5 (2,5,8,13,14)
"Least" popular:
Ghosts and Spirits at 1 (10)
Soul mates, Tortured Hero, Sexy at 2 (5,12; 9,14; 1,8)
All other shelves are in the middle (3-4 teams)

I have been concentrating on reading that I forgot to post my shelf. I have 100 pages left in Marked and I am hoping to finish it tonight.

Book: Marked by P.C. Cast

Review:
This book and series was recommended to me years ago and I just haven't taken the time to read it. I have to say thanks to the SOS Bingo Challenge for getting me to read this book. Now I will have to look at the rest of the books.
I fell in love with Zoey Redbird right from the start. Once she is marked and her human friends abandon her along with her mother she goes to the one person that she can count on and that is her Grandmother. Zoey's grandmother takes her to the House of Night and is supportive of Zbird.
Once Zoey meets her roommate she starts to feel welcomed. All Zoey wants is to have some place where she feels she belongs. That is something every teenager and some adults want too. Zoe's roommate is adorable and her name is Stevie Rae. I love all the friends she makes in this book. Damian is a hoot!!
I will be reading my other books now. Go ahead and ask for that cover love stamp.

Off to renew my driver's license (yeah, really fun way to spend a Sunday morning...) & will probably take the first book on the list that I have on hand with me. Will let you know what it is, later!

Paranormal would give us 4 in a row if we finish:
Aliens
Dystopian
Paranormal
Because we are getting our "Cover Love" Stamp.
Alternatively, it would also give us 3 in a row if we get our Angels and Demons shelf.
But for strategy our focus should be on finishing: Dystopian, Aliens, and Paranormal!

Book:Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer

Review:
I read this book for SOS Bingo and I am thrilled with finding this book along with many more this round. I don't know if I would have read this book on my own. I had received this book from a friend of my dad's after she had passed. Her daughter tried to sell the books that her mother had and what ever was left she let me have.
Life as we Knew it is told by a girl Miranda after the moon is knocked out of orbit and the world starts to change. The way this story was told really kept me reading. I never felt like I was lost or confused.
Miranda lives with her mother, younger brother Johnny and an older brother Matt when he comes home from college. The changes and troubles the family have to endure really make you think about all that we have. This story made me think about times that we lose electric for a few hours. It also made me think about Super Storm Sandy and how it affected so many people.
This book made me think about how strong people are when they are under this type of challenge.
