Book: Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs by Molly Harper
Review:
I really enjoy Molly Harper's style. She manages to write such likable and crazy characters that I can't help but laugh at/with.
Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs is no exception. Jane's life isn't going so well.... and within a day she ends up sacked, mistaken for a pig and wakes up as one of the undead. But by all accounts she manages to handle it all rather well. I liked the supporting characters of Zeb and Jane's aunt.
Plot wise? It's rather predictable. And if it wasn't for the fun cast of characters then it'd be very much like so many other vampire romances that I've read before. But this one works.

Review:
I love the series that this is a spinoff from, and I was really excited to read Spade's story. And while I enjoyed this book, it never quite worked for me. I thought the storyline was good and interesting, but the chemistry between Spade and Denise never worked for me. But enjoyable nonetheless.
Crazy week...in the middle of finals for uni (giving, not taking...ain't that sweet of me!) plus trying to get all the passports renewed and deal with kid's summer vacation. So, will get a review up soon! Today, possibly tomorrow. And haven't quite fallen off the face of the earth. Countdown to our next shelf...can't wait!
No worries, Judithe. You have got a lot on your plate. Summer vacation with kids is always a little frenetic.

Regina: Dead Ever After
We need to focus on aliens and paranormal as that is what gets us 4 in a row! Was a stamp requested for dystopian? Let me know if you need help with that! Angels & Demons of course needs to be finished, but that only gets us 3 in row. So anyone know if there is a winning shelf for any team this week?
Am I mistaken in how I am looking at this?
I'm working on my aliens and the paranormal mix books. I am enjoying both of them. I'm a quarter way through my aliens book and that is just from my reading yesterday.
So according to Rachel on the Discussion Shelf here are the shelves that if called this week -- win the game:9 winning shelves
They are:
freebie (10)
guilty pleasures(6)
keepers(3),(4)
maybe(7)
shifters(6,10)
soul mates(5)
time travel(1)
vampire(4)
urban fantasy(9)
If time travel is called we have until Saturday next week around 2:00 pm (to be safe) to win the game! That means we have time to finish: Aliens, paranormal and time travel. If any of the other 8 are called, the game ends next week.
Thanks for the assessment, Regina! You are amazing. Let's hope Time Travel is called.I just submitted for Distopian stamp. Sorry I got distracted by my husband's birthday today. We went to see Wolverine. Yum!!
Shelf #9 ~ 07/28/13: 'supernatural'DIRECT LINK: supernatural
Shelf's up! It isn't a major help to us, but is also not a winning shelf for anyone else.
Well I am going to read the next Sookie book. I believe it is From Dead to Worse At least that is the one I am on. Okay getting back to reading!!
Oh, Regina! I love that series!! Great choice. I will let y'all know soon what I will be reading. So glad it's not a winning shelf for anyone!
Week 9: SupernaturalStamp: 0/5 Pending

Thoughts:
Dark Hunters remain one of my faves, and I'm quite enjoying the introduction of mythology of the Americas into the series. I like how Ms. Kenyon weaves the different pantheons together.
This story features Kateri Avani (connected to Sunny, a fave in Night Embrace) and Ren Waya, a warrior from way, way back. The two are connected through dreams/visions long before they meet, where each remembers the other killing them. What a way to start a relationship when they actually DO meet for the first time. Well, sparks fly, but first they have to focus on saving the world...
Overall, it was a fun read and another enjoyable dip into the D-H world. This is a series I'll continue to enjoy (I hope...a couple have been rather "bleah" for me, but overall, it's worth continuing).
I'm going to read
(finally coming out this week!) So, will get started on it in another day or so...
I'm thrilled that Binding the Shadows by Jenn Bennett has been listed as Supernatural by five people :DI preordered this book months ago but because of an error it didn't arrive in my mailbox until this week.
Oh, Judithe!! I'm so jealous. I'm going to be reading it in August for another challenge. I love that series and I miss Kate and Curran. And thanks for the review. I have to admit, this is one series that's very hit or miss for me. I read most of them a while ago and completely out of order (before GR). I might have to take a look at them again.
Regina - I've heard great things about this book in the Mercy Thompson series. Can't wait!!
And so glad your book came in and 5 people shelved it correctly for you LOL!!

Undead and Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson
Week 8: Paranormal Mix
Date Finished: 7/28/13
Rating: ****
Review:
Well I seem to be on binge of reading series and vampires. I bought this book because the cover interested me along with the title.
Undead and Unwed was a funny book. I found myself laughing or cracking a smile while reading. Elizabeth Taylor or Betsy as she likes to be called gets hit by a car saving her cat one night and wakes up in the funeral home wondering what happened.
Once she finally figures out what happened she sees her father and stepmother then visits her mother. Her best friend is thrilled to see her up and walking even if she is a vampire. The abilities that she has make her a very unique vampire and the possible Queen.
This book would probably still be sitting on my TBR pile if not for the SOS Bingo game. I look forward to reading the next books in this series.
I have wondered about that book for awhile. Great review. Judithe and Regina need to finish PNR and Monica and Regina need to finish aliens -- and then (eek!) we have 4 in a row!!!! LOL, I can't even believe this -- given that our card before was just a bunch of polka dots, lol. I guess mr. Randomizer is liking us better. :D
I will get on my pnr and alien books ladies. I am listening to the audio of
for pnr and it is slow going. The audio has these constant pauses. It is frustrating. But so far, it is better than the last two in the series. But I will have both done before Friday. I am also reading my supernatural book for another group challenge, so that one will be done by Saturday too.
I am working on my Aliens book now. I am really enjoying it. I decided to finish my PNR book since I knew I could get that done a lot quicker then my alien book. I even read the book while watching Harry Potter movies on ABC Family! I am almost at 30% on the aliens book. Off to read some more!
Great work, Team!!! Regina - you are the best cheerleader!! Monica, great review and Keep Reading!!Had a lovely birthday day. Went to see Wolverine, which certainly made me happy!

Done. I finished it last Sunday, just took a while to get the review up! Busy, busy!
Though I know Magic Rises will arrive tomorrow, I'm also sneaking in bits of Rogue which will also fit for this shelf (necessary breaks in between grading...grr...this is about my least favorite time at work....)
CONGRATULATIONS, Bombshells! You now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'dystopian'.

Good Job!! :D
Thanks Steph and Leslie!I am surprised that I am enjoying
-- it is fantastic like the earlier books, but it is solidly good -- better than the last few.
Time for a stamp! I just finished my paranormal review. Leslie let me know if you want me to update and submit? Review coming.

Book: Dead Ever After by
Review:
I listened to the audio version of this book. The narration is just okay and I had to listen to it at 2X speed as the narrator is so annoying. She is one of my least favorite narrators. The book starts off slow, was not suprising and was predictable. I feel like Harris was offering up explanations to her readers for why Sookie wasn't with X guy and X guy. Everything was wrapped up perfectly. It was better than the last few but still just mediocre. Ultimatley, I am glad I read it -- but happy it is over.
I'm on here now, Regina. I'll take care of it. Thanks!! Which number of the series is that one? I stopped after 5 or 6 (can't remember which one exactly). It just didn't hold my interest anymore.
Cool! Thank you. (I was hoping you would say that! LOL)Leslie, that was a GOOD choice on your part. This is the last one in the series. Just released in May -- #13.
LMAO 3X? LOL!!! I may often do it at 1.5X, but this wasn't downloaded through the audible app. I uploaded CDs, so I was stuck with regular speed - -and ridiculous pauses - or 2X. Did you read or listen to Dead Ever After? It is the same narrator that I cannot stand, she did some of the Kelly Armostrong shifter books.
I listened to both #12 & 13. I know, 3x is a bit crazy. If I get annoyed and can truly focus on what she's saying, I just go for it. LMAO! My hubby thinks I'm completely insane whenever he hears an audiobook at warp speed. >;) Most times though I almost always switch from 1x to 2x as soon as I've gotten into the story. I just can't stand it at normal speed b/c I could read it so much faster myself. Well, now that I said that, I realize I never play Nalini's books at a faster rate. I don't want to miss a single thing, so I play them at normal speed. And, sometimes Ward's BDB. LOL! Ok, so I don't always play them fast. >.<
Me too Steph! I have the same reasoning. And you are right. Once I adjust to fast - it is easy. I am going to try 3x sometime. :)
LOL! Lemme know what you think. Because I typically listen (with the exception of those I mentioned) at 2x speed, whenever I start a new book w/a familiar narrator I'm always shocked by how they sound. Like, WTH? S/he doesn't sound like that, does s/he? LOL! I've gotten accustomed to hearing them at a faster speed. The one that sticks out is the Kitty Norville and Rachel Morgan narrator lady. I always forget her name, but her voice sounds better to me when it's 2-3x faster. LOL! I'm odd, I know. I don't fight it, I just embrace it. :D

Good Job!! :D
Thanks Steph!LOL Steph, next book I try I am going to do it on 2x and try to move it up - -I will let you know. I am really enjoying the narration of Fate's Edge so I don't want to speed it up right now!
So only me and Monica for Aliens and then - -eekkkkkk -- a 4 stamp row!
