Kym Robinson | 1 comments Hello

I am an avid reader of most things historical and I would be interested in writing a long this vein as soon as my energies are diverted from my present field of professional sports.

I generally have an interest in economics, politics and military history in essence they are often entwined so they lead on to the other in ones reader ship often.

Thank you for having me in your lovely reading group :)

Carrie | 1 comments Hi, my name is Carrie. I am a librarian and a history buff. Civil, Revolutionary, and WWII are my main interests. Excited to find this group. I will be recommending it to my MIL.

Jill H. (bucs1960) A warm welcome Kym. I think if you browse the threads you will find much here to pique your interest in history.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you are ready to cite a book. (There is a link on the top right of the reply box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them. When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Craig Hodges (craig_hodges) | 1 comments Hi History Club Members,
My name is Craig. I am from Australia. Your new member is no academic; I just find certain aspects of history stimulating and otherwise essential for a better understanding how power is wielded, what news is reported and why the majority of humanity continues to be invisible in our understanding of who we are.

Broadly my general interests in history include;

Contemporary History - Late contemporary times
Post-colonial History & Asia
Australian Indigenous History
Australian History Wars
The Philosophy of History
Historical Revisionism - Esp. relating to political purposes of both deception and denial.
How the mass media's reading of Cold War history may distort popular perceptions of international current affairs.

Look forward to learning from this group and expanding my historical interests.

Gita Reddy | 1 comments Greetings to all members, I am from India and as this is a group of history lovers, which includes an interest in different cultures, I will use the Indian greeting and say, Namaste.
I read, write, paint, enjoy travelling. I will not say I am passionate about history but I find it interesting. I especially like works that disprove history as we know it!
I don't think I will be contributing much to the discussions except pesky questions.

Joel Blackwell | 1 comments Right now my GF and I are deep in "Cleopatra" and "Alexander The Great." We keep reading passages out loud and wondering why no one ever told us this or that.

We got the Elizabeth Taylor Richard Burton movie and my GF couldn't stand it (it is pretty dated and was bad at the time). But I saw it with new eyes having read about Caesar, Marc Anthony and Cleopatra.

Then I got the Alexander movie and it was also pretty lame, but having the images helped put things in place.

We both enjoy military history and I'm a political junkie. In fact, Robert Caro's books on Lyndon Johnson brought us together via a conversation at a party.

Dirk Bontes I am Dirk Bontes and as far as history is concerned, I am interested in this and that, varying from Roman history to Norse sagae to twentieth century events.

Danielle Hi I'm Danielle. I'm a purchaser for an engineering firm in Hull, UK.

I am interested in a wide variety of history topics and periods but my real passion lies with early modern British history - The Tudors especially.

I joined this group to discuss history books with people with the same and different historical interests. I was also drawn to the group because I saw that your year-long discussion is on Peter H Wilson's book and the author was my tutor for my dissertation on Elizabeth of Bohemia when I was at University. This book was one of many that I used for background research.

Danielle, interesting connection.

We cite books and authors mentioned this way:

The Thirty Years War A Sourcebook by Peter H. Wilson by Peter H. Wilson (no photo)

Yes, I will try to get back to the Wilson book which is a great challenge.

Dustan Daniel | 1 comments Greetings all. My name is Dustan Daniel and I am a big fan of history books and nonfiction in general.

World Wars, US Presidents, late 19th / early 20th century industrialists Rockefeller, Carnegie, McCormick, Ford), the founding fathers, National Parks and Chicago are the subjects that I most enjoy reading about. I enjoy many books in the audio format due to a 2 hour a day driving commute. That's about it for me for introduction and relevant information. I look forward to getting to interact with you through this group.

Bryan Craig Welcome, Dirk. Glad you could join us. We have a history topic on Rome:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

The Passage of Power (The Years of Lyndon Johnson, #4) by Robert A. Caro by Robert A. Caro Robert A. Caro
