◈Mini-Challenge #10:Uncover the cover

How important are book covers for you? Would you read a book if you don't like the cover at all even if it sounds interesting? Or would you read a book just because you like its cover but the content doesn't much appeal to you?

I do love looking at covers, either way! Even if I'm not going to read the book, I sometimes can't help but love those covers.

◈Mini-Challenge #10:Uncover the cover
Sure a cover with a seriously hot dude on it will get my attention but if the premise doesn't appeal to me, I won't read the book. Conversely if a cover totally unappeals, but the premise is interesting, I will probably give it a try. So yeah the cover is important but not necessarily a deciding factor.

While an eye-catching cover will often make me stop and look at a book I hadn't heard of, if reading the book summary doesn't also snag me, I won't bother reading the book. That said, if I've heard about a book that sounds good, an unattractive cover won't stop me from reading it.

I have to admit to being totally swayed by covers. When I would go to the library I would only pick out books that had nice glossy covers. And I don't want to read a book if the cover is unappealing. I'm so shallow (shakes my head in sorrow).
Mini Challenge #10 - Uncover the Cover
Now that I read books based on book club and online reading groups recommendations, the covers actually mean nothing to me!
"Back in the day" when you would browse bookstores, they definitely made a difference!

I tell myself over and over again NOT to be swayed by covers. But, alas, I finally had to make a shelf entitled "i-am-a-cover-ho" - an idea I stole from Shawna. However, I just "tag" those books I bought strictly for their covers.
I am waiting for the day I get arrested in a bookstore for caressing a beautiful cover. I just love them and totally forget myself. And I'm NOT just talking about the ones with a hunky guy on the cover.

I would love to say that cover doesn't matter to me, but I'm as LK said 'cover ho'. I will read book recommended to me no matter what cover looks like, but when I'm choosing book myself cover is first thing I notice (and sometimes last). :D
I have my books put in calibre and from time to time I go to cover view just to look all those pretty covers :D

I also have a habit of stopping an looking at the cover while I'm reading.
It really bugs me when they get something wrong. The hair color, of course, is big. Especially when they put the hero in an embrace with a woman's whose hair is that of the rival's. Eep! Don't these cover artists - or publishers - know their audience?
One of the worst offences was when the got the uniform wrong! The hero was wearing the wrong branch of the service. Duh!

Book covers are usually the way I chose books to read. I usually won't read books with ugly or creepy covers such

Now there's a mini challenge for us all. Post your ugliest covers!!
And I agree, LK - I think that's why I always hated the covers on the historical romances I read. The book might have been wonderful and historically accurate but they would have a completely cheesy cover. I know some people really like those covers - but I never did. They had nothing to do with the story.

It really..."
Oh, those little details really irritate me, too! Haha, yes, the rival's hair color on a cover is such a big no-no! The uniform thing cracks me up because I know I have had the same reaction as you!! Or they'll be wearing an officer's uniform but their rank is Enlisted, grrr! Do a little bit of research, it's not that hard.

Spell out your first name or nickname using books from another members shelves.

I love your new moniker!! And I agree, some covers are really beautiful! I guess I have such memories of my family finding my book and exclaiming in horror "what are you reading!!" And trying to explain that it was actually a really good book.

Atomic Tangerine
Taken from Barb on Team Mango Tango:

LOL I chose this book not only because it is on my own TBR but because Barb and I are participating in a challenge called "Help Me Decide" and I picked this book for her to read ☺

Atomic Tangerine

Vampire + Werewolf + Angel= Pirangewolf
Pronunciation: Pie ran juh wolf

Atomic Tangerine
I would want to be Alexia because she lives in the steampunk world and is very unique and different!!! HOLD UP...WAIT A MINUTE HERE...forgot to mention she's got a hot sexy alpha werewolf eating from the palm of her hand ☺

If I could meet a character it would have to be Bella so I could beat the snot out of here for being such a stupid, selfish, annoying little twit with no goals,ambitions,dreams,independence.....the list could go on forever.

I almost choke on my pizza when I saw it. AWESOME!!!!

Atomic Tangerine
I have never read a book just to mock it. I have read books just to see what all the hype was and most of them I DON'T like and don't really see what is so great about them especially these:

Aw, I loved The Book Thief. It always saddens me when I find out someone didn't like it. I wonder how much of it is related to having it hyped up for you (for anyone, I mean), as opposed to if you'd read it without the hype. I really hate overly hyped books because oftentimes I end up disappointed. I hadn't heard anything about The Book Thief when I bought it on a whim. I just thought it sounded good. Cried for roughly the last 50 pages. Max's comic slayed me. I may be a sap...
Soulless is on my radar. I read a really negative review that made me hesitate but it's been awhile since I read it so I will still read the book sometime. I try not to read the low star reviews for books I think sound fun but that the more critical literary types like to pick apart, heh. If I read a really bad review that nitpicks things I think might bother me now that they've been pointed out to me ahead of time, I tend to take time before reading the book so my perceptions as I read aren't skewed by the negative reviews.

I cried for most of the last part of that book and feel exactly the way you do. I was also quite upset when I tried to read I Am the Messenger because it didn't live up to The Book Thief. Hi, my name is Stacie and I hold authors to unfair standards.

LOL at your disclaimer. I can be the same way.
I actually really loved I Am the Messenger. I don't remember much about it now but I just remember liking it so much when I was finished. Sometimes, it's just my mood, too. One day I'll love a book because my mood says it's a good idea to and then I might re-read it later and I think, "Hm... it's good but not quite as great as I thought before." I'm very very mood-oriented when it comes to reading. There are times my mood is extremely forgiving of things that I might normally be bothered by, too. On a 'normal' day, I might pick apart some really questionable things in a book but when my mood is lighter I just think, "Oh, that's really silly/ridiculous/insane/unrealistic but I don't care! I'm just in the mood for whimsy!", lol.

How important are book covers for you? Would you read a book if you don't like the cover at all even if it sounds interesting? Or would you read a book just because you like its cover but the content doesn't much appeal to you?
Here's my thing about books covers: I don't care what they look like. I just care about whats in the book and if it's gonna interest me. The first thing I really look for in a book is that title and then the synopsis. The cover comes last. Don't get me wrong, I love a beautiful cover as much as anyone else but its not a deal breaker for me. I've read awesome books with beautiful covers, awesome books with ugly covers, horrible books with beautiful covers and horrible books with ugly covers. I wouldn't read a book with a beautiful cover if its content didn't interest me and I would read a book if the cover is ugly but its content interests me. Its always a bonus if the content interests me and the cover is beautiful but it's not necessary.

Oh its ok :D. I don't know, covers just don't really interest me all that much. Maybe I'm weird :D

I've never actually read a book because I wanted to mock it but I have read books because they were popular and surprised myself by enjoying them. Twilight is one example (didn't necessarily like modern vampire stories but now I love them!)

BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAH"
Every time I wrote fruit madness dance the scene that pops into my mind is the one from the Lion King when Simba needs to infiltrate the hyena's headquarters and needs a distraction and Timon asks: what do you want me to do? Use a skirt and do the hula dance? And next thing we see is Timon doing the hula dance and Pumbaa with an apple on his mouth *giggles*
