I don't even think my problem was her knowledge of chemistry. I know there are kids who get so involved in certain topics that they know a lot more than you'd think. I think it was her observations of the world. Just didn't ring true to me and it took me out of enjoying the story. Despite that, it was the similes that really did me in. I know, probably not everyone even noticed or cared but they really irritated me after awhile.

I am like you, LK, sitting here looking to see if my library carries all the ones I want!..."I read the first Harry Bosch and enjoyed it. I have the second on my nook as well and have been meaning to read it. I love hard-bitten detectives. And yes, the Arcane series is one of my favorites. I did a buddy read last year and re-read the whole series in order. It was great. JAK is one of those authors I can read over and over again.

Angel + Djinn + Hellhound = Winged Magical Spawn of Hell
Lisa Kay wrote: "Jex, I didn't realize you went on past #2 in the Newsflesh Trilogy. Interesting. Glad you like it."Yup. Read the whole thing. I loved it! Made me cry. Although I really love most things zombies, and this series had a really interesting take on them.
Mini Challenge #1 - Green with Envy
Mini Challenge #2 - Behind Enemy Lines
I had to redeem myself and restore my honor after Sonia shamelessly snuck in.
I chose this book because it is one we both haven't read and the cover is so appealing to me
Mini Challenge #3: Series Showoffs
1. BDB by JR Ward
2. Demonica by Larissa Ione
3. The Wallflowers by Lisa Kleypas

1-800-Where-R-You Series
The Mediator Series
(Haven't read this one, it was just released)
Alex Cross Series
Haven't read:
Anne of Green Gables
Haven't read:
Mini-Challenge #4:Dark Forces Creature Builder
Vampire + Werewolf + Goddess = Body changing, hairy blood sucking, hybrid goddess
Mini-Challenge #5: Dream Character
If I could BE a character I'd either be Allison from The Immortal Rules or Eleanor from Something Strange and deadly. Allison because she's brave and she's a vampire-I love vampires. Eleanor because she's a tough, kick ass girl whose not afraid to go head to head with zombies.
_____________________________________________________
If I could MEET a character I'd meet Varen Nethers from Nevermore. He's interesting, sarcastic and soo my type! I love him
Mini Challenge #1 ~ Green with EnvyTeam Moonstone
I don't read many green covered books,lol
Mini Challenge #2 ~ Behind Enemy Lines
I went searching Lisa Kays bookshelves behind team Blue Cadet's very pretty door. My search resulted in finding out that we have both read & loved
~ both of us gave it 5♥I also found
which she gave a 5♥ to and I have it sitting on my nightstand waiting patiently for me to open it ☺
Mini-Challenge #5: Dream CharacterIf I could be a character, I'd be Eve Dallas from the "In Death" series, by J.D. Robb. She's a bad-a$$ cop and she sleeps with Roarke, what more can I say??
Alternatively, I'd also like to meet her and Roarke. I'm easy, either way!
Oh wait!! I'd also love to meet Kinsey Millhone from the Sue Grafton
Kinsey Millhone series!
Mini-Challenge #3 - Series ShowoffIron fey

Warriors

Tamora Pierce's Tortall quartets
And because I accidently deleted my last post...
Mini-Challenge #3:"Series Showoff" Team Moonstone ~ I have many series I love but here is my top 4 (#5 would be Eve and Roarke In Death series!!)
Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews
Psy-Changeling by Nalini Singh
Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley
Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost

I would love to be Savannah Reid, from the series by G.A. McKevett. She's feisty, independent and confident in her own skin, she has a job she loves and family she loves -- and who love her! -- even more. Who can ask for more than that out of life?
I would most like to spend a day with Cotton Malone, from the series by Steve Berry. He has to have some amazing stories to tell, he knows a lot of history about a lot of people/places/things, he loves books -- and he's easy on the eyes as well :) He's my book-crush!
Mini-Challenge #4: Dark Forces Creature Builder
Zombie + Djinn + The Omega = A Brain Eating, Energy shaping, malevolent mystical mist of evil
Mini-Challenge #5: Dream Character
1) Genevieve Snow aka Gin Blanco the Spider. From the Elemental Assassin Series by Jennifer Estep.
She kicks major ass with that ice and stone magic.

[bookcover:S..."Oh, nice choices. I haven't read any but they all seem pretty good. My son is on book 4 of the Warriors series, by Erin Hunter. That Tamora Pierce Tortall quartet sounds like something he might like, too. (He's 12).
Mini challenge #5 - Dream Character I'm going to be really boring and say that if I could be any character it would be Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series or Éowyn from The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Both are brave and loyal, characteristics I try to have, and they both find love at the end of the series.
If I'm going to meet anyone from a book, it would be Chairman Juan Cabrillo from the Oregon Files books by Clive Cussler. He's the owner/captain of an amazing ship, runs an interesting Corporation and sounds quite a catch :)
Mini challenge #5 - Dream Character
I'd be Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights as I'd love to understand him more. This is one of my all time favourite books and with each reading I swing between empathy and distate for him. It would be nice to live in his skin for a while and get another perspective :)

Mini challenge #5 - Dream Character I totally will be Kate Daniels or Rose from the Vampire Academy series.
Kick-ass chicks that beat the crap out of evil creatures and that act first and ask questions later. Besides, they both sleep with hot - god-like powerful guys *giggles*
If I could meet anyone it would be Dumbledore from Harry Potter. Or Sirius Black.
◈Mini-Challenge #6:Oh no, I like it!

Have you ever read a popular book just so you can mock it (e.g. Fifty shades of grey, Twilight) and actually found you enjoyed it? What was the book and why?
Submited by Team Leather Jacket Black

Mini challenge #5 - Dream CharacterI don't think I ever wished to be a book character, but to meet one... oh, man!
Who? That's though one. Mostly it depends on book I'm currently reading :)
If I have to pick: Mr. Darcy from P&P and Remus Lupin from HP
Mini-Challenge #6: Oh no, I like it! Southern Vampire/Sookie Stackhouse series:
I saw one episode of True Blood and thought Sookie Stackhouse was the dumbest country bumpkin ever and it was just funny to watch...then Erika at PKC recommended it and I thought, why the hell not? I love a good comedy.
I ended up listening to the next 8 books in a row and now I can't wait for May 7th--- TUESDAY for
.Oh NO! I really love this series
Claire wrote: "Mini challenge #5 - Dream Character I'm going to be really boring and say that if I could be any character it would be Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series or Éowyn from The Lord of the ..."
Oh, Hermione is a great choice. She's one of my faves.
Mini-Challenge #2: Behind Enemy LinesPerson snooped: Phyllis
Her team: Atomic Tangerine
The Tall Woman by Wilma Dykeman.I snooped Phyllis because she is my mother and I get some good recommendations from her. I chose this book because of the reverse - I had recommended it to her and was glad to see she gave it 5* too!
Evana, from Mango Tango
Mini-Challenge #3: Series Show-offI don't see this one done by anyone else, so here is The Wheel of Time. I'm using the GR tool because about book 10 I started buying the ebook instead of the hardcover:
Mini Challenge 5: Dream CharacterI love some of the ones already posted. Love Gin Blanco and Kate Daniels! And Eve gets to sleep with Roarke - so who can resist that choice. But when I was younger, I was obsessed with another character and would actually pretend to be her all day at school. So my choice is Jo, from
If I was to meet anyone, it would have to be Robin Hood. This is my fantasy version
Mini Challenge 6: Oh, no I like it!! I was never a big fan of cowboys and then one day a friend encouraged me to read
and I had a totally new perspective!
Mini-Challenge #4: Dark Forces Creature Builder
+

Maenad + Sin Dragon + Hyper-Intelligent Robotic Weapon creatures
Dionysus worshipping, orgy-inducing, flying killer dragon machine, made of sin, darkness, evil, and robotic weaponry. X)

Mini-Challenge #5: Dream Character
Wow, I'd have to agree with Barb on the MEET category. She totally stole my answer! I'd LOVE to meet Cotton Malone from the Steve Berry series. He's a smart, strong, brave, chivalrous, book-loving, loyal, sexy older man with a penchant for adventure. I'm totally in book-love with him!!! X) Or Dumbledore. He's just so lovable :)
If I had to BE one, wow, there are so many... I've always been obsessed with superpowers soooooo... maybe a wizard from Harry Potter?... Or maybe Aloysius Pendergast from the Preston and Child series... Oh Oh! Grayson Pierce from the Sigma Force series by James Rollins would be up there as a main choice too! Or the Seeker, Richard Cypher, from Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind!
On that note, if anyone wants to introduce me to some new series with people with superpowers... PM me! I love series! :D
----------------------------------------
Mini-Challenge #6: Oh no, I like it!
Hmm, none come to mind! Maybe the Hunger Games? It wasn't crazy popular when I read it, but a friend bought me the first one as a birthday gift and pushed pushed pushed for me to read it. I read the back and had no interest in it at all, but once I started, I read it in less than two hours! Of course, I didn't like the ending of the trilogy though. :(
------------------------------
I absolutely adore these mini-challenges... especially number 3. I have added so many more series to my to-read list that sound so interesting!!!

Ummm, Russell Crowe is dreamy anyways, but as a chivalrous hero defending the poor? Yes, please!

Leslie wrote: "Mini Challenge 6: Oh, no I like it!! I was never a big fan of cowboys and then one day a friend encouraged me to read

I'm so bummed - my library doesn't carry the Elemental Assassin series and I really want to read it. Steven, I agree on so many things you've written in the past few posts. Love Russell Crowe, love these mini-challenges, especially the series one, love Dumbledore.
ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) wrote: "I'm so bummed - my library doesn't carry the Elemental Assassin series and I really want to read it. e, lo..."
Maybe you can request it. My library has suggestion boxes. Besides, amazon does sales for $1.99 or $2.99 for the kindle books every few months. That's why I bought book 1

Nope, can't say that I have LOL If it sounds like something I might enjoy, I'll read a popular book just to see what the fuss was all about, but I've never read one just to mock it. I don't waste my reading time on books that I don't think I'll like :)
Steven wrote: "I'd have to agree with Barb on the MEET category. She totally stole my answer! I'd LOVE to meet Cotton Malone from the Steve Berry series. Ezi - I have become obsessed with Elemental Assassins! I'm about to start #6. And Steven - just watched Master and Commander. More great Russell Crowe, though nothing compares to Gladiator.
He's in his late 40s/early 50s now, if I recall correctly. For such a strong adventurous protagonist, that's "older" compared to the protags from similar type stories!
Steven wrote: "He's in his late 40s/early 50s now, if I recall correctly. For such a strong adventurous protagonist, that's "older" compared to the protags from similar type stories!"I was thinking mid 40s, since Gary is just 16, but I'm not sure. And you make a good point about the other characters who are as ... physical? That would be an interesting tidbit to 'research,' I think.
Leslie wrote: "Yeah, my daughter's call him their "old guy" crush!! He's just about the right age for me."I was thinking the same thing, Leslie :)
