Lisa | 383 comments I'm reading World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks and nearly gave up, started to skim, until I got to page 63 and the report from Troy, Montana mom (connected with her and then the book). I think it's the format it's written - made it hard for me to get into it. But now I'm 1/4 way through, it's growing on me. Like a virus! EEK!!

Lori (lorimcd) I think that I caught Kay's flu bug... I'm down for the count today. Trying to read, at least.

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments Hope you feel better Lori!

message 1704: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Oh man, Lori - hope you feel better soon! Don't read any zombie books today ;)

Anna (Bobs Her Hair) I'm reading Jennifer Esteps upcoming release Heart of Venom (Elemental Assassin, #9) by Jennifer Estep . It's very good! The focus is on the villain, like it used to be.

Oh...feel better, Lori. I know how horrible it feels. Hopefully, it's only a 24 hour thing.

I need to get back into this series. I think I stopped at book #4.

message 1708: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I started Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh and I'm already loving Kaleb!! Only a few chapters in and I really wish I could just ditch work and read all day.

Yep. I get your feelings on that book. It's rough in parts.

I keep meaning to start Elemental Assassin. I might need a buddy to push me. I'd like to try her adult stuff, since I like her YA series.

Started Defiance (Defiance, #1) by Stephanie Tyler and I'm surprised that it's quite a bit better than I'd expected, after reading a few mediocre MC books. I do like that it has a post-apocalyptic setting but wish we knew more about what's going on in the world outside of the club.

@Kay...It hit a speed bump that pissed people off. This one gets back to Gin kicking a$$. We also see a different side to JoJo and Sophia. There's improvement with the repetition. No more info about where the 5 sliverstones on placed. lol But Owen's violet eyes are looking at Gin's gray eyes. o.O

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments There are violet eyes in this series too??? I think at least a couple characters in Mythos have violet eyes.

I really like her writing style but she fails at avoiding repetition.

JE seems to love violet eyes. Just can't get away from the. Btw, my brown eyes are looking at your [fill in] eyes. lol

I wish I had time to read at work. I am so jealous right now. Hopefully I will be able to catch up with you.

message 1714: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments @ Stacia - I've had Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep on my TBR list and have been wanting to try the series. If you'd need a buddy for that push, let me know :)

message 1715: by D.G. (new)

D.G. So I've been watching tons of movies in Amazon Prime and last night I decided to watch Catwoman with Halle Berry. Holy Jesus, that movie was bad. The only good thing about it was Catwoman's outfit.

That movie was painful to watch. God did it suck.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! I know! I couldn't believe it! It didn't make any sense whatsoever.

message 1718: by Marcella (new)

Marcella (marcella6) | 436 comments It didn't make any sense. Sharon Stone's character was indestructible because of the collagen in her moisturizer...REALLY! talk about a stretch...no pun intended. Ha ha!

message 1719: by D.G. (new)

D.G. And the part where the cop found out who she was by matching the shape of the kiss? I almost DIED laughing.

I would love to, if you'd be able to do it in July.

I forgot about that part. Did no one read the script before it was approved? What an insult to the Batman franchise.

message 1722: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments OMG sounds like I didn't anything by not seeing Catwoman, except, perhaps that indestructible moisturizer. Gotta get me some of that! I liked Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman in one of the Batman films.

@ Stacia - yay! July works for me - just let me know when so I can round up a copy.

Obviously no, LOL!

Lisa - You're not missing anything really. Although I'm still in awe at how good HB looked in that outfit. I would SO want to look like that, LOL!

message 1724: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments I think that's why the guys in my family wanted to see it LOL!

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments D.G. wrote: "I finished Wallbanger by Alice Clayton, which had some funny moments but needed some editing. It was like 100 pages too long."

The thing I found strange was that normally a book has something to be overcome, and when that thing is overcome the story ends and everyone lives happily ever after.
(view spoiler)
I didn't mind that it could have ended sooner. I kind of enjoyed that extra stuff.

message 1726: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I do love the cover of Wallbanger. ;)

All Wendy inspired, I am listening to Joyland by Stephen King and when I can, reading Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle -- I am glad to be back in the world of D(sss)ex and Perry but I don't like it as much as the other books. I am enjoying it but I think (view spoiler) I want to be back in Pery's head.

message 1727: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments From a distance, the guy on the cover of Wallbanger looks to have funny looking arms held behind his back. It's a great shot! It's verra eye-catching.

I finished Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle a few days ago, devouring it and then felt like I od'd on Dex or something.

Leea | 1437 comments Regina, i'm going to read Joyland later next week. Wendy has my excited!

I'm half way thru Sins & Needles - love it! I'm so excited to see how this (view spoiler)

Lisa | 383 comments Since I'm been reading World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks and my mind is on survival during a zombie attack and we just experienced a 4.3 earthquake 2 hours ago with the epicenter just down the road from me (found out online) - here's a link so you can check out when, where and strength, oh and depth of earthquakes in your area: http://earthquaketrack.com/recent

There's a link for Survival Kits! I clicked on it but no, they don't supply zombie survival kits but I'm sure they'd be sorta similar. I've printed off the list and will start putting together a kit :) For some reason I just flashed on Bernadette from Where'd You Go, Bernadette LOL!

message 1733: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Thanks, all, for your well wishes. Seems like it might have been a 24-hour thing. Feeling better, but still a little weak.

I ended up not reading yesterday. Couldn't concentrate. Instead, I spent my time watching TV on demand - eps of Motive, Devious Maids, Drop Dead Diva, Mistresses, and shows I missed the endings of, like Army Wives.

But I picked up the Kindle this morning. Have stuff going on, so fitting in reading The Marquess Who Loved Me (Muses of Mayfair, #3) by Sara Ramsey with everything else.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Just posting this as a heads up. People might want to check and see if they're in this group or reading any of the books under the names listed on this blog. There is a huge plagiarism controversy brewing at the moment and more names keep coming out. http://www.teresamummert.com/1/post/2...

message 1735: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Wow! Looks like GR has already started acting. I noticed that the link to "Amazingly Broken" is already listed as Not A Book. And if you try to search for it, you won't get anything. (Or at least, that was my experience.)

Haven't heard or nor read the books on the list. Sad to think folks would so blatantly participate in such a scam on readers. But they aren't too bright, either, because everything on the web is traceable.

message 1736: by Ian (new)

Ian (setaian) | 640 comments Stacia ~ Vixen of Variety wrote: "There is a huge plagiarism controversy brewing at the moment and more names keep coming out. "

Here's what I don't get. Amazon have the book in digital form. Universities have been using some extremely sophisticated software for 15 years that is designed for the singular purpose of detecting plagiarism.
Why doesn't Amazon put all books through that search before offering them for sale? It wouldn't take long. They're text files...not all that big.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments I think it might be a bit of a headache because a lot of books have similar phrasing, even almost exact same sentences due to it just being common for certain phrases to be used over and over in romance. I could imagine a lot of alarms being set off for plagiarism, when a few similar sentences aren't necessarily the same thing as authors ripping off entire passages and scenes.

message 1738: by D.G. (new)

D.G. YIKES!!!

message 1739: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I know I saw some stuff going around yesterday and this morning about that book that was plagiarized. Also, Tammara Webber posted a little something about it on her FB. I guess these people or this person is doing anything to make money. I wonder how many people fell for it and bought these books.

message 1740: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments That just makes me sick. I hate plagiarism. Thanks for the heads up.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 862 comments Defiance (Defiance, #1) by Stephanie Tyler and liked it a lot better than I had expected to, which was a nice surprise. I think this was much less crazy drama and male chauvinism from the other motorcycle club books I'd read, which was nice.

message 1742: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 173 comments started listening to Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane . i thought it would be pretty good, but i'm having a hard time getting in to it =(

message 1743: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I know some people have a hard time getting into the language or the way that some of the downside ghosts talk. Keep reading, it's a fantastic series.

I finished Sins & Needles - loved it and I cannot wait for Shooting Scars come out.

now i'm going to read Eleanor & Park

message 1744: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So glad you loved it! I am checking in after working (seriously) an 80 hour week. Heading out for a weekend of camping in the northern woods in Wisconsin. Not sure if I will have service or not. :)

message 1747: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments Have fun, Regina!

There's a little heat where I am right now. I'm planning on staying indoors as much as I can this weekend.

I'm still working on Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh and I'm liking it!

message 1748: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Thanks Kay. :) stay in the A/c! It is only going to be 80 degrees so not too hot. But there are going to be thunder storms all night long. So we shall see if I survive!

message 1749: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Navarro (kanarenee) I just finished Married By Morning (The Hathaways, #4) by Lisa Kleypas , and am offically heading into Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) by Cassandra Clare and after that finishing off the Hathaways with Love in the Afternoon (The Hathaways, #5) by Lisa Kleypas

message 1750: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Finished My Nights With Kate (Book #1) by M.T. Stone , which HAS to be written by a male author attempting to break into the steamy romance genre.... *eye roll*

Finished the Forever Fae series - or at least the 3 published books. OK series... nothing special.

Reading The Story of X by A.J. Molloy - yes, I'm feeling the steam and free books... besides, it's 115-degrees outside, so while I'm in the A/C, I seem to be in the mood for some steamy romance. I blame Dex.
