Betina (betina1) | 27 comments Love this book.. I thínk it's really good.. I just went to watch the movie yesterday :D

Kristy | 1 comments I really enjoyed this book. I have actually read it multiple times. :-) I went to see the movie this past Friday and it wasn't too bad. The movies are never as good as the books.

Yassemin (yas666) | 56 comments Just started this two days ago and about 100 pages in. It's an interesting concept but thought Meyers writing wasn't very good to begin with. it seemed confused but it's better now and I am starting to like it. I don't like the Host at the moment, she seems aloof and not very personable

message 5: by Gracie (new)

Gracie (simply_me) | 1 comments I read this book recently to prepare for the movie. I was a little disappointed the movie didn't capture any of the different worlds that was described in the book.
The book is interesting enough, a little confusing in parts but I enjoyed it - perhaps for the 2nd one the aliens find a way to make the human souls detachable so that Wanda can take Ian with her into a younger body when they grow old!

Yvonne I hestitated to read a book by this author (sorry, I just don't think she is very good...) but gave it a go anyway. I'm glad I did! It was a quick read but got me hooked almost right away. I love sci-fi and it is an interesting plot line. Now I'm wondering about the movie...hmm!

Steph Patt (steph_patt) | 12 comments I really enjoyed this book. Like others, I was hesitant to read it after the twilight frenzy but I am glad I did. I thought the way Stephanie Meyer portrayed the inner struggle with Melanie/Wanda was really good.

Kim Graham (kimgraham36) | 24 comments Just started this last night... Mostly because my friend asked me to go see the movie with her when it came out, and I like to read the book first. So far so good... excited to see how it turns out!

M.L. Doyle (mldoyle) | 3 comments I thought this was so much better than Twilight it's impossible to make a comparison. It dealt with some deep issues and really left you torn as to what you wanted to happen and what actually happened. I was left guessing to the end. The internal discussion between Melanie and Wanda was always riviting. I hope that this book demonstrates Stephanie Myer's direction and that we can look forward to more from her along these lines.

Alexandra (cherry_crush) | 30 comments It took me awhile to get round to reading this book. Mainly because Twilight... well, you know. Not my thing, really. But with The Host I was actually very pleasantly surprised. Very interesting read, i loved it!

message 11: by Anne (new) - rated it 3 stars

Anne I tried reading this book ages ago and never finished it. I had a hard time getting into it then. I've decided to try it again - mostly because the movie trailers actually look pretty good. I'm only on pg 86. We'll see how it goes.

I definately want to see the movie. Not crazy about the casting I've seen on the trailers but I really want to see how they do the internal dialogue.

ManDIY's Life (mandiyslife) I love this book so much and I want to read it again but there are so many other books to read and I think I'll wait until I saw the movie because the more you remember the book the more disappointed you are about the movie ;) So many people don't get to finish this book which I don't understand because I couldn't stop anymore :D

Cinthia (cinthiah) | 308 comments I thought the book was pretty good. Too bad there is a sequel, I thought it ended nicely. I'll be watching the movie soon.

Roxanne I didn't like the Host. I enjoyed the beginning and end but the middle was so boring. I really don't like that there's going to be a sequel since I thought the ending of the Host wrapped up everything well.

message 16: by Lee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lee Wilce (leewilce) I was a bit apprehensive to give it a try at first because I didn't enjoy twilight. But found this bookmark really enjoyable and original.

I hadn't heard about that just had a look and it seems she plans to turn it into a trilogy. I agree with you I really liked the ending and she should have just left it at that.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I really liked this book and am excited about the movie.

Jocelyn (jhotter) I tried to read this book a couple of years ago but couldn't get past the prologue because I was so confused. I'm so happy I gave it another chance. I haven't seen the movie yet, just the trailers..so when I was reading the book I expected a lot more action happening between the seeker and Wanda. I think the ending was a little too fast, that we didn't get to see enough of Wanda in her new body and it upset me how we didn't get to read more into the new group of humans they met at the end. I guess that's why see's making a sequel though. Overall a good book, and I honestly don't think they can make the movie as good because of the way Wanda and Mel communicate.

Sarah | 3 comments I just started this Saturday. It's taken me a long time to finally give in and read The Host since Twilight wasn't my favorite. Talk about perfect timing!

Crystal | 9 comments so glad this is one of our books, it was already a book i will soon get from the library in the next two Weeks :-)

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments I thought the book was too wordy. But I loved the movie!

message 23: by Max (new) - rated it 3 stars

Max (maxv) | 2 comments This was a sizable book when I picked it up, going by the Twilight fame. I never cared for Twilight but I liked the concept of the book. Anyway, the book was some 600 pages long, but still the story moved at snail-pace and by the time you reach page 600, you know the author could have finished this book in 300 pages. There's only some minor world building, even though it's sci-fi with aliens the author has only devoted a lazy minute or two to what the Wanderer's life and worlds were like. However, the book is built on a very unique concept, a sort of reverse-horror if you will (or a whole new arena of horror), and it was very refreshing to see that in alien sci-fi mostly driven on closeted xenophilia, xenophobia and fear.

Heather (cagalli1543) I really enjoyed this book. I read it several years ago and just watched the movie Saturday night. I like the relationships that Wanda and Melanie have throughout the book and I like the strength of the character's wills.

Sydney Mugerwa (corrosivemind) I read The Host about a fortnight ago and was totally blown away! I love the dialogue and the story line. I love the main can characters for being strong women. Only part I didn't appreciate was melanie getting those blows from a guy who claimed to love her

This is exactly right. I read the Twilight series and I wasn't really fond of the books and the movies are even worse. The Host though was really good IMO. I couldn't put it down and I really enjoyed the quick interesting read. I have seen the trailers and it looks alright. I will probably go see it but then I will complain how they left everything out. I though about re reading this book but I have already read it many times and listened to it on Audio. If I go see the movie though I want to remember the less about the details. I loved this book. Anybody have any questions about it?

Vilmarie Santos i love this book i've read it about 5 times is one of my favorites

Gouri (gourianil) | 14 comments I loved the book..I can't wait to watch the movie..I love how Wanda is so selfless..no one can help loving her.I love Ian and Jamie..I hate Jared because of his behavior towards Wanda..I can't believe Stephenie Meyer could write something nice like this because I hate Twilight movies and book with passion :)

at the end of the book,it is said that Jared is still confused..he looks at Wanda even when human Melanie is with him.Why is it like that?

message 30: by Brit (new) - rated it 3 stars

Brit (britmeup) I started this book and I'm past halfway. I'm enjoying it, but I don't enjoy some of the characters (Jared, sometimes Wanda and Melanie, etc)
Other than that, it's pretty good; not great, but good.

Natalie (littlenatalie) Couldn't finish this book.

~~~N~~~ (chocolate-cannibal-bunnies) | 376 comments Read it in April... And I, surprisingly, loved it.
Samantha Paulino | 1 comments Not as memorable as twilight but was a fun read.
bridgette ✨ (bridgettef) I read it back in 2008, and loved it. I can't wait to reread it, and then see the movie.
Jennifer | 6 comments I really enjoyed this book. It was a slow start at first but then I didn't want to put it down. I am planning to see the movie this week even though the movies are never as good as the books.
Brittany Perry | 229 comments Ok I am not a fan of Meyers, but the Host wasn't that bad . However I feel as if the aliens are taking over the planet has been over done. I am will continue to buy and read her new work though in hopes that one day I will be thoroughly impressed. Can anyone tell me about the sequel? This is the first I have heard of one?
message 37: by Eileen (new)
Eileen Goudge (authoreileengoudge) My husband the movie reviewer (for WABC-TV in NYC) was pleasantly surprised by the movie. He commented that Ms. Meyer has an "awesome" imagination. Having read the Twilight series, I couldn't agree more. I look forward to reading "The Host."
Lamya Al Medlej (lamyaalmedlej) this book is defiantly one of my favorites! I really enjoyed it! Too bad I read it while I was busy with school but Im planning to re-read it and I'm excited about the movie!!!
Nathan (slate39) | 3 comments I've seen the trailer for the movie,I'll probably read the book instead. The books are always better.
Lindsey Franzen I have loved this book for years. Stephenie Meyer came to mall of America in Minnesota as the first stop for the release of the host, way back in spring of 08. My copy is signed by her! I love the concept of how the humans see the souls as murderers, but to the souls, taking over the host body is natural way of life to them. Also, which society is better? The humans killed each other and destroyed the beauty of life around them, and the souls came in and created a utopian society, no murder, no theft, no violence.
Brittany Perry | 229 comments Utopias never work though.1984, Hunger Games, Divergent, Delirium, all of those societies were supposed to be Utopias but to us they seem like a horror story, and there are flaws. There is no such thing as a utopia because Humans=Flaws
message 43: by - (new) - rated it 5 stars
- (mmons9889) I really loved this book.
Don't prejudge because Stephenie wrote it.
Read it and you'll see how truly amazing it is.
Saw the movie this Saturday.
Loved it too. ♥
it really IS slow and confusing in the beginning,but once you pass the 80th page or so you get sucked in and it becomes so freaking amazing :)
Adrianne Padilla (kirliedew) | 4 comments I liked the book. Not usually into anything with aliens but it kept me intrigued enough to read it. I would recommend it to others who I know would love it.
Angel (angel4sue) | 48 comments i am very excited to be reading this book this month. just got it on my kindle on sat. great timing for me :)
Savannah (skyswriting) I am really glad to see a lot of people gave this book a chance, those who didn't like Twilight. Now you see they are very different from eachother. I thought this was some of her best work, hope to see this as a series later down the road. I go to see the movie on Wednesday, been waiting forrever for this! Anyone see it, yet?
