I read this book in 2011 and was really confused and was bored, like someone mentioned above slow paced and I just couldn't wait to finish it. Maybe I should read it again but I'm really not into the sci-fic and alien like combinations. It's also why I'm hesitate to watch the movie.

i love this book and i hate stuff about aliensan its really boring at first but it gets so much better just get through it i know you wont regret it
I read this book a year ago and I loved it. It dragged a bit in the second half, but just a bit. And I loved the ending. Probably the only Stephanie Meyer book I've 'bought', the rest I borrowed.

Yay! Thanks for reading it! xD
This book has been on my shelf for AGES. I've owned it for several years, and I tried reading it once when I first bought it but never finished it. I think I got about 100 pages in? I'm going to give it another shot and see how it goes. I'm not a huge fan of Meyer's writing in general, but I've heard this one is a break from her usual Twilight nonsense. So here's hoping!
I've read the book and the movie but to be honest i like jared and wanda together but when she's melanie i like her with ian but truthfully i'm a jared wanda
I have tried to get into this book and would get halfway through and be completely lost. I was the same way with the Harry Potter series...I couldn't get into the first couple books and then I saw the movies and read the first couple books in a matter of days. I think I'm going to try that with this book as well and see how it works out. I hear it is an amazing book and I really love Stephanie Meyer's writing but this book loses me every time I read it.
I read the book awhile ago when it first came out and I loved it. Many people are bias on it because Stephanie Meyer wrote it. If that is the only reason you don't pick it up then you are cheating yourself out of a really good story. Sure the hype of the movie has people running to their bookstores to read it BUT it is a story that can hold its own with readers. I am actually re-reading it because of this discussion.
I really enjoyed The Host when I read it, I thought it was far better than the Twilight novels (which I also enjoyed). I loved the worlds described, and loved the characters, but I do wish a few had been a little more developed.
I found the story quite interesting but the writing very poor. Not a fan of Myers. I think the movie would be quite good and looking forward to how it was done. I would not however recommend this book.
Still so torn! I really want to like this book, because the plot is so different. I'm about 220 pages in and was hopeful, because I heard the first 100 drug from several people in the discussion. It's moving SOOOO slow. The best way I could describe my reading of this book is I find myself reading the pages but not even necessarily absorbing what I'm reading. I will hang in for a little longer, but this may be one of the few books I have to give up on...
loved this book soooo much, but it just annoyed me that they missed out so much from the movie :( I hated it when I was on the way to the cinema thinking 'I can't wait to see how they made this certain part into a movie' then it wasn't even in the movie! Ugh D:
I read this book after Twilight and enjoyed it more than the prior aeries which garnered so much attention. I did go see the movie because I was curious how they would do the inner dialogue. Can't say I was crazy about how that turned out.
Why does every book need to have a sequel these days? This was a great stand alone book and should have been left there.
I'm getting near the end of this book. So far, it's alright; not the best. I'm curious to see how it ends. Is there going to be something that leads to a sequel? But since there's an epilogue, will there even be a need for a sequel? Either way, I probably won't read the sequel.
This was a great book, I read it a year ago after I finished the twilight series. I am nervous to go see the movie, especially because of the way the twilight movies came out. I love the twilight books but hate the movies. The movies sort of ruined the books for me. I hope The Host movie will not do the same!
I read this book when it first came out. When I first started it I was not sure about the book. I guess because it was so different to the Twilight series. Once I got into it the story was very good. Am look forward to the movie - as I think it will make a good one.
I have to admit, I liked it so much better than the Twilight series and I'm looking forward to the 2nd part. But I won't watch the film because I also think that the Twilight movies were just way too sappy.
I agree with Antonia. I really liked the Host...A lot more than the Twilight series. I don't think I'll see the movie either, though...Unless it turns out to be really good :P
I think it was pretty different from what you expect from a sci-fi book and from Stephenie Meyer, given her fame with Twilight. There aren't any epic battles, the aliens aren't even evil (that makes for a bit of a moral dilemma: they are generally a very pacific species even though they invade planets and their natives' bodies), and it focuses more on the relationships between Wanda and Melanie, Jared, Ian, Jamie and all the remaing humans. It gives you an interesting point of view from outside humanity: while Wanda seems to be afraid of humans, she's also fascinated by them. It makes you think about how some people can be absolutely horrible while other people can be absolutely wonderful. Things run pretty slowly in the beginning, but after a while it just gets better and better.Wow. It seems I'm more passionate about this book than I thought I was. Oops.
Just finished reading The host after avoiding it for the longest time. It always seemed like something I wouldn't be too interested in. I am SO glad I let a friend finally talk me into it. With the movie release, I knew I would want to read it first. I think Wanderer is one of the coolest characters imagined in a long time and I would personally love to see a sequel as I didn't want the story to end!!!
The concept of The Host is like invasion of the body snatchers. But I really like the characters and the story direction.

I'm about 20% into the book. I apologize, but I'm just hating this thing. I haven't read science fiction in years and now I know why. I'll stick it out but don't hold out much hope for this book.
Stephanie wrote: "I really enjoyed this book. Like others, I was hesitant to read it after the twilight frenzy but I am glad I did. I thought the way Stephanie Meyer portrayed the inner struggle with Melanie/Wanda..."I not enjoying the book but think it is better than the Twilight book. (Hated that one also)

I think if I hadn't read the books I wouldn't have known what was going on at all. I know that The Host is a completely different project, but I'm hearing very similar reviews on The Host. :(
As for the book, I finished it on Saturday, and I really liked it. I was almost half way through it when it finally grabbed my attention. I'm glad I stuck with it. I hope that the sequel(s) are better. I don't like having to force myself to read a book.
I just finished rereading The Host. I was so glad to confirm that it was a great book. I have read the Twilight series and enjoyed it, but this book was far and above the others for me. I am curious and scared to see the movie. The internal dialogue is such a huge part of the beauty of this book and I don't see how they can capture that on film. I was not too happy with that part of the translation of the Twilight series to film and this book has more depth.
I read this book quite a while ago. I loved it. The beginning was hard to read, but once you get through that, it's a great book.I'm curious how the movie is going to be like. I hope it won't ruin the book like it did to Twilight.
Ok, I'm FINALLY turning a corner in this book. I don't feel like I have to force myself to pick it up anymore!
I loved this book. It's one of my all time favorites. The thing I like about the most is, it shows how interconnected we are as humans and how emotions can drive people to great lengths.
I read The Host about three years ago and really loved it, and have been waiting to see if Meyer will follow through and complete The Seeker and The Soul as originally planned. From what I remember, I was really taken with all of the charaters, and the way she was able to make them seem so real, and with such a bizzare setting (underground lava caves) that seemed imaginable. I can say that the first few chapters had me wondering if I should keep going, but I was hooked and loved every minute of of Jared,Mel,Wanda and Ian's story.
i loved this book mainly the middle part and i think all of characters are so interesting and funny (sometimes)
I loved this book so much! And it's way better than Twilight. I really don't understand people who won't give this book a chance just because they didn't like Twilight. Although I'm not so sure I'll like the movie...

I just feel like they had the potential to do more with the movie and they didn't
This was the first book I read last month. It is now one of my favourite books. I loved the story development but what I loved most were the characters. All the characters are important and I cared about ALL of them. I even cared about the characters that annoyed me. I cared about what happened to them and what they did. It was a beautiful story and its worth reading every page.
I just started this book. So far I enjoy it, and I am thankful for finding this book group as I would not have picked this book up otherwise. I read Twilight and found it lacking but I have decided to keep an open mind and try this book. I will keep you posted on my progress and what I think! Thanks again! :)

I read this book last year and it is easily my favorite book. It's so easy to fall in love with the characters and the relationships between them seem so real!!! I would read this book forever!

It actually was kind of a bad movie!! I saw it with 2 of my friends who haven't read the book and they didn't understand any of it. The movie wasn't really clear on who the characters were and it didn't show how deep the relationships between the characters are. They also left out a lot of good parts of the book. Once again the book is so much better!!!!!

Does anybody know will there be a second book?
wanted to read it because of the movie coming out. slow at beginning, found it hard to understand, but now I am enjoying it immensely!
This is a really good book, better than the twilight movies and the only reason people are hating on it is because they're all prejudiced because the same author wrote the Twilight books
I loved the Twilight saga. Was not sure about The Host but it had me hooked once I read it. Can't wait to see the movie. Also can't wait to see where the characters go in the sequel.
kind of like the matrix. but worse
