Nope! Not yet, and it's killing me!!! I loved this and thought it was better than Twilight! (Sorry, Twihards!) But I am going to see it soon!

Savannah (skyswriting) Hi Abz! Do you plan on seeing it though soon? We could compare our thoughts on it =))

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

I do, I do!

Soph ♡ Started this book a couple of nights ago. I was reluctant to read it for a long time because of the sheer length of it. A book this long has to have a brilliant storyline to hold my attention. So far so good....

Alexandra (alexandra-the-fairy) I just started this book the other day! A bit confusing at the beginning but very interesting now

I agree, it was a bit odd at first but it was really different and interesting!

Savannah (skyswriting) Hope you have fun reading it, Sophie =)

I read the book last year and hope to see the movie very soon.

Vanessa | 41 comments I loved this book so much. The emotional torture that Wanda goes through is torture. I loved that Stephanie Meyer went more mature with this book. Better than Twilight!!

Amr (amrgalal7) | 11 comments I've just started this book today, looks interesting !

Katie | 31 comments Good choice - I read this several years ago and enjoyed it. I only read one of the Twilight novels but devoured this book. I was glad to see the depth of character the author could convey and in a science fiction scenario.

Alicia Mendoza (alisemare) | 8 comments I started this book today and completely blown away by how different the writing is compared to the Twilight series! Definitely loving this more than her other work!

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

I love Twilight more than this book as I do not like dark caves and the parasites were too awful being like centipides. I am wondering if when I get to see the movie the dark caves will make me feel claustrophobic?
Is the movie real dark?

I think Stephenie Meyer has an amazing imagination.

Tiffany started reading the host this evening. I'm on chapter 3 and so far its pretty slow and confusing. I'm not giving up though, hoping it starts peaking my interest soon!!

message 65: by Yara (new) - added it

Yara I've recently started this book (I think two days ago) and so far, I stopped reading it for a while.

It's mostly because I don't quite understand the scenarios... It's confusing to me. I just don't get it.
So now, I'm reading Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. When I'm done with this one, I'll retake my reading where I left it.

Wish me luck...

Ashlie | 12 comments i really enjoyed the book and the movie was amazing

Mary Lois (luvidlooooo) | 1 comments I love the book! :D
I saw the movie and it was good . but some of the scenes that I was waiting for weren't there. I was disappointed to the NEW Wanda. She looks too old for Jake Abel as Ian.
All in all, great book, great characters (really.. .except for the NEW Wanda), great scene, great script and to sum it up, a great movie :))

Ian O'Shea is an actual disney prince :)

message 68: by Eeza (new) - rated it 5 stars

Eeza sheren (chapterbreak) | 1 comments Great book, I am no a fan of twilight, I know. SUE ME! but this book was far from the dramatic love story. It was very practical to a certain aspect. the story and the plot. I just can't get enough of. The love interest and the love triangle. The way the place was described. So vividly, I think Stephanie Meyer did a great job. She just made me like her writing more.

message 69: by R.L. (new)

R.L. Stedman | 10 comments I read this a few years ago; I bought it because I liked the circle of silver on the eye. I know, I know, never buy a book because of the cover... Anyway, I did enjoy this, I liked the alternating POV from the alien and the human and I liked the way the alien was portrayed as the good guy even though she took over the human. Specially liked a sci-fi from a woman's perspective.
BUT ... I thought it could have been more. Why turn it into a love story? Narrative Causality (aka Terry Pratchett) suggests that of course, it must become one, but the beauty of sci-fi means: you can throw Causality out the window. So I give it 3 stars. Not the best book I've ever read, but worth the effort.
Hope this doesn't offend any Meyer-fans out there

Lanie Jordan (lanie_jordan) | 27 comments I read this months ago, and still, to this day, I can't decide if I actually liked it or not. It's been marked as read on my shelf and everything, but it has no ranking, because I just can't decide.

It's kind of weird. I've never read a book before that left me uncertain about my own darn feelings, LOL.

Maybe I'll read it again someday and see if that doesn't clear it up, for now...no idea.

Spirit of Wonderland Reviews (spiritofwonderlandreviews) I read this book a few years ago, and I LOVED it!! I've never read the Twilight series, so I'm not sure if it's anything similar to those, but this book was great. I'm looking forward to the sequel :) Excited and apprehensive about seeing the movie for it...was such a great book, I just don't think they made the movie good enough! haha Great book though, would recommend, whether you liked Twilight or not- it's completely different from that series (from what I've heard, and saw of the movies).

Yusreen | 21 comments I have not read this book, but I think it has an interesting concept. The movie also looks good, I'm a big fan of Saoirse Ronan :) Will read this book ASAP

Carolyn | 12 comments I have just started this book yesterday and so far love it. I actually can't believe that I'm reading a book that has been picked. Usually I already reading a book and its usually never in the list. So I can really join in the conversations this time. So far the book is great. But I do agree that it was a little bit confusing at the start. But once you work out whose who, its not so bad.

Afifa | 20 comments I liked the book!
I also want to see the movie!

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

I havent read this yet. Dont know where to read it. Any good sites or stores?/

Hiedi Moorman (hiedisue) | 6 comments I read this book when it first came out, and really liked it. I started reading it again last week because I want to go see the movie soon. I have really enjoyed it again. I have only about 100 pages left before I am finished! Looking forward to discussing it with everyone :)

Ashli | 3 comments hahaha I just finished The Host like 2 days ago. how perfect! ; ) I really loved the book and thought it was much better then Twilight. The concept is really interesting and I really enjoyed it. Hope the movie is good.

I think that theory is one of the best parts of the book.
*Spoiler* *Spoiler* *Spoiler*

In the end they are a little confused because in a way all four of them learned how to love each other. Jared loved Melanie but he learned to love Wanda too. Wanda had the more prominent personality even though Melanie had the more prominent physical body. Ian looks longingly at Mel because he learned to love Wanda through Mel's body. It's a tangled web of emotions. Basically even though they (Mel and Wanda) were separated the men and even the women still had a hard time not having some attachment to the other side of the equation the were stuck in for so long. It's deep yo! lol...

Sónia Tigol | 15 comments *Spoiler*

I've read this book 5 or 6 times, is one of my favorite books, I love the way the author created this new world (our world), invaded by extra-terrestrial able to subdue most humans without the slightest struggle. While the few who realize what is going on around you, fight even harder to survive. I loved Wanda and Melanie and loved watching the the struggle between them to see who survived, while they began to see that it was best to unite to fight for those they love. And of course I loved the story of a love so strong it conquers all.

Angelica Thompson | 134 comments omg love this book so much I think it's a pretty great book, didn't like the movie too much though

Kim Graham (kimgraham36) | 24 comments So I'm about 100 pages in and not overly impressed...

Zahrah (zahrahwhy) | 20 comments It's slow but I liked it.

Exactly, right?"

I'm not entirely sure what I'm reading lol... I want to like it... I like the idea of it... buutttt

Anne | 32 comments I'm not really a fan of the Twilight saga so I'm hesitant to purchase this one. It's cheap on Kindle right now, though. Someone convince me!

message 86: by Violeta (new)

Violeta Balan | 3 comments The book wants to be different from Twilight. But we can find romantic issus by Stephanie in a sf world. I did not see the movie.

message 87: by Sam (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sam (sammicat) | 1 comments Like others have said, I tried 3 times to get into this book, but am glad I kept trying. I loved the Twilight books, but I'm not a big Sci-Fi fan. However, on the third try, I got hooked and loved it. I haven't been too impressed with the trailer for the movie, but I will give it a chance. We will see how it goes. I'm not sure how I feel about a sequel.

Angelica Thompson | 134 comments Anne wrote: "I'm not really a fan of the Twilight saga so I'm hesitant to purchase this one. It's cheap on Kindle right now, though. Someone convince me!"

honestly it's really slow I'm not gonna lie for about 100 pages it's slow but that's because there's a lot of character development going on there. It's one of those novels that if you just keep on reading it's totally worth it!!! so when you start reading it remember keep reading you won't regret it. And if you do contact me haha

Can't you just get it from a library? I..."

Because of visual issues I read on the Kindle. So, unless I can get a loaned ebook, the library i8s not for me.

message 90: by Dawn (new) - rated it 3 stars

Dawn I read this when it first came out and was very disappointed. I'm actually a huge Twilight fan so I was looking forward to reading The Host. Unfortunately I couldn't really get into it and had to force myself to finish it. I might give it another shot later but my initial reaction was, the writing itself wasn't impressive and it was a little confusing. The story had a lot of potential but it wasn't developed enough for me. Just my opinion.

Shelby Bellofiore (shelby_bellofiore) Just started reading The Host yesterday. I don't have a crazy amount of time on my hands but I'm on the second chapter and it's pretty cool so far :)

message 92: by Charmee (new)

Charmee Penner Just got the book on my kobo vox and i'm very excited to start reading! I will keep you informed on how I enjoyed it :) Am thinking about watching the movie on it after reading the book. Its always fun to watch the movie after and get "angry" when some of your favorite parts are missing! HAHA!

Kirsten Habegger (madhatter2713) Laura wrote: "This disscussion is about one of the books of the month: The Host"

How was the movie?! I have a tattoo of the quote where Ian says "I held you in my hand Wanderer" with a sparrow :) I'm dying to see the movie! The book is fantastic

message 94: by Annie (new) - added it

Annie (litisfire) | 0 comments I haven't read it, but I heard that it is really over detailed. As in, Stephanie Meyer spends five pages giving you details about some boys' eye color and how deep they are. This doesn't seem like a good go-to read, but I'd definitely consider reading it if it's chosen. But if given the choice, I wouldn't nominate this book, even IF it was made into a movie. (And it IS!)

Cheyenne (cheyennenajee) I loved the concept of this book when I picked it up about 3 years ago, but I was never really able to read it. It just didn't catch for me.

message 96: by Ayu (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ayu (ianosheas) | 22 comments I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS BOOK. I love the character buildup, relationships, setting, everything except for the very beginning where nothing really makes sense and is kind of boring.

The movie was a little disappointing. I expected a lot more.

Caitlin patterson | 1 comments Loved the book at first I thought it would be stupid but my friend talked me into reading it and I'm glad she did I can't wait to go out and watch the movie. :)

message 98: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Mitchell | 1 comments I enjoyed the Twilight series, but The Host blew Twilight away. I loved this novel. I thought it was very well written and really had to be lengthy to adequately explore all of the issues that were raised. It forced you to consider the narrative from the viewpoints of several different characters. I appreciated the fact that the characters were complex and each had a different path to their understanding of what happened to Melanie and what Wanda represented.

Savannah (skyswriting) eeeeep! Ayu, what disappointed you about the movie? I plan on seeing it this weekend.

message 100: by Glow (new) - rated it 4 stars

Glow I read this book right when I finish the twilight series, around 5 years ago and I did enjoy it a lot. I'll be going tomorrow to watch the movie!!
