I just saw Jingles post #416 and gave it a shot. I had no clue this challenge ended before July 31st. No biggie.

Great teamwork! Thanks everyone for reading the longer books and doing the "bouncing" cupcake puzzles :-D

Don't know if you need another one but I just finished another biggie (528 pages) yesterday. The Immortal Fire by Anne Ursu.
Hina,
what did you think of A Year and a Day? I have to read that this year and have been putting it off. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I will use it next time as we still have some biggies on peoples's lists.

If you were 'tagging' books as read last night, please make sure they are on your designated Tower Teams Reading Challenge shelf. Since Alice (the girl in the chair that appears when the system is over capacity) kept appearing, we are finding a lot of books didn't get 'tagged.'
The best way is to compare your main GRs challenge (if you've joined) with your "view books" page of your Team's Home Page Challenge.

I have been going through midterms this week and just lurking when I habe a chance. This weekend I am going to finish adding all the links and getting my books together for the August challenge.

There's a new cupcake coming.
It's mad and it's bad.
Some of you will be humming.
Some of you will be glad.
It's called the "Triple Threat"
And as it's name implies...
While it isn't a sure bet,
It increases your book count size.

We're all caught up on the puzzles 101-109 done!

7 out of 21 books rated 1 or 2 stars. UGH I'm not usually this bad at picking them.

On the surface it seems that we have to read 1/3 of our books from the A Book a Day Challenge and the remainder from any two other NBRC challenges. Which sounds easy enough but then they added all kinds of restrictions and examples and I got lost. Hopefully you ladies can figure out what exactly it is we have to do for this one. Maybe it's just too darn late and my brain is fried but I can't make heads or tails of it.

FOFLMBO! Oh, dear.
FOFLMBO! Oh, dear.
The Short and Sweet of the Mod's September Challenge for BAP:
• As a team you need to read between 7% and 9.9% of your total team participant goal in order to get any BAPs.
• 1/3 of these books needs to fit into the Book a Day challenge of which you may double up and the remaining books need to fit into:(1) One A-Z challenge which is not a spell-it-out.
(2) One other NBRC challenge.

And the mod challenges will continue until someone wins :-D Although they are going to be bi-monthly moving forward.

High Level Summary
In September, we are back to doing a mod challenge. As with the other challenges, this is purely voluntary. In fact this time, the team goal will be determined based on the individual participants (vs having to read X number of books, so having more people is better).
We can earn a maximum of 4 book advantage points (which translates into 4 books added to our tracker). We get the maximum points when we read as a team, 9.9% of the yearly goal of each participant -- I will give an example further below.
The books that we read will come from existing challenges in the NBRC group; one is determined and 2 we get to choose as a team.
* 1/3 of the books must come from the A Book A Day Keeps the Boredom at Bay; team members can do the same day on this challenge
* At least one book must come from an A - Z Challenge (that is not a Spell It Out): Examples include
Author Alphabet Reading Challenge
Hero Alphabet Reading Challenge
Heroine Alphabet Reading Challenge
Pet Names Alphabet Reading Challenge A-Z
Title Challenge: Read the Alphabet
Setting Alphabet Reading Challenge
Villains Alphabet Reading Challenge
* At least one book must come from another NBRC challenge (seasonal, monthly, yearly --- it is our choice :-D)
We do NOT need to complete any of these challenges to get the points --- we just need to read the number of books determined by our goals that will fit into one of the 3 challenges.

To get maximum points (4), we would need to read a total that is the sum of 9.9% of each participants yearly goal. This is the goal that you put into the challenge tracker when signing up for Tower Team II challenge.
The 9.9% for each of our team members is:
Barbara 29
Carrie 9
ETO 19
Hina 34
Jingles 24
JoLene 7
Thilde 1
Valerie 7
If everyone participated we would need to read 130 books. If only Hina and I participated, the goal would be 41 books.
We use the individual goals to determine the team's goal -- but in the above example, I could read 1 book and Hina could read 40 and we would still get our points.
I also want to point out that we are currently in 6th place. The 5th place team is about 20 books ahead of us. The 7th place team is about 9 points behind us --- but the 7th place team does not seem to be doing many of the book advantage points.
