Unfortunately the talk is correct. A Feast for Crows is terrible and boring as hell too boot. It's 1000 pages of torture and repetitiveness. Apparently GRRM decided the book was too long (almost 2000 pages in one volume) so he decided it was a great idea to split it in half. However he choose to put all the interesting characters in the second half (book #5) and all the lame ones and a ton of new characters in this book. It is a real bear to get through. I also hear from my brother whose read them all, that #5 isn't as great as 1-3 either. Hmmm kinda makes you wanna skip them both but of course, you need them in order to complete the series. darn. Good luck JoLene.

Thanks. I thought that was the date but I was too lazy to double check. :)

message 356: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I looked at puzzle 77 and decided it wasn't worth my time to decipher that craziness. Hopefully someone else will be tempted.

Thanks for doing #78 Jingles. I wasn't looking forward to another of those killers either. I much prefer the doublets, jigsaws and the sliders.

message 357: by jingles (new)

jingles I was glad to do it. I finally had the time to do one.

I'm absolutely terrible at the doublets. I still try to figure those out from time to time so that I can email them in (even though we've already done them).

I've gotten a lot better at the sliders. I really like the jigsaw ones too.

message 358: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I love the jigsaws, especially after I figured out that they usually give us a bigger version :-D.

What is a doublet? It that taking a word from one to another --- I like those and the spot the difference.

Is 77 the true false??

message 359: by jingles (new)

jingles Yes, that is the doublet. Changing one letter of one word to form a different word. Don't know why I can't get it. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time working on it.

Puzzle #77 is the True/False. I've not had time to do it yet, and I don't think anyone else has done it.

Barbara ★ I'm wondering where we're at with Round 2. Has anyone been figuring out where books work for the categories of Round 2?

message 371: by jingles (new)

jingles I've been working on Puzzle #87, but haven't gotten it figured out yet.

When I get another chance, I will try again.

message 372: by Barbara ★ (last edited Jul 10, 2013 10:31AM) (new)

Barbara ★ I'll see if I can work 87.

#88 -- I'm working on this one but can't figure out the first book. I got the other two. Any thoughts? PM me please.

#90 -- I've got 1, 2 and 3 but can't get the last one. Any thoughts?

message 373: by Barbara ★ (last edited Jul 10, 2013 10:59AM) (new)

Barbara ★ Submitted puzzle #89

message 374: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Figured out #88 and emailed it in. Still working on #90.

message 375: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Thanks Barbara, I don't like the book scramble ones ---- I don't see enough book covers due to Kindle reading, but also I don't read a lot of series books.

Though it's been a few years, you've read the book.
So with your shelves, take another look.

You 'tagged' it "zzcover-red" cover.
You're sure to discover.

Oops! With too much of a hint,
Now you won't have to squint.

message 377: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Thanks CC. I'll take another look at the red cover books. Must not have looked hard enough.

message 378: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Emailed puzzle #90.

Barbara ★ JoLene wrote: "Thanks Barbara, I don't like the book scramble ones ---- I don't see enough book covers due to Kindle reading, but also I don't read a lot of series books."

I can only do it if I'm familiar with the book. I also turn my monitor upside down which sometimes helps. :)

I've tried twice and lost patience with it. I get all in place except for 1 square. UGH! I'll try again tomorrow.

message 381: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I emailed puzzle #92. If I'm correct, this will give us more "bouncing" cupcakes; the ones your Captain can redeem to make "chunksters" count as double the books.

I have no interest in fighting with puzzle #91 so hopefully someone else will be brave and give it a shot.

message 382: by jingles (new)

jingles I finally got Puzzle #87 done.

I'll take a look at Puzzle #91 now to see what I can do.

If so, this is where Jolene's BOM and Buddy read chunksters could come in handy.

Jolene?

message 384: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I counted my chunksters --- we have 3 more chunkster points available so I will post to the redeeming thread this weekend.

I think now it's the book scrambles that are earning us "chunkster" points -- I'm not so good at those.

message 385: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ That's OK Jolene, I completed them all so we're good. If you check out my reading list since April 12, I've read 12-13 books over 500 pages if we need more.

Here's the link if needed: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

message 386: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Yeah, I have the list --- we have quite a number of chunksters we can use :-). We just need th bouncing cupcakes.

Also, they are checking word count so one that I submitted was rejected :-), luckily we get the bouncing cupcake back to use again.

message 387: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I emailed #94 scrambled bookcovers.
I'm working on slider #93.

message 388: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Cool --- I seem to be having an issue with the sliders now. When I slide a piece, there is a bug which seems to then show the correct image in the background. This means that I can't see where the slider is and I have a double piece for one piece.

I tried working on 95 and 91 but it was too difficult to do with this new "feature" that I have discovered.

message 389: by Barbara ★ (last edited Jul 14, 2013 11:00AM) (new)

Barbara ★ Submitted #93 & #95. These are becoming more and more difficult and annoying. :(

message 390: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I know --- give me a jigsaw puzzle any day over the sliders. :-D

I think we still have 91 outstanding so I will try with a different browser this afternoon on a break from cleaning out my closest --- fun times!!

message 391: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I just checked and we have all of the challenges accounted for except for #92 which I submitted and thought was approved but I'll submit again just to be sure.

We still have 2 weeks of the challenge left so I'm thinking there will be more puzzles. UGH.

message 394: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I don't know about you ladies, but I have no interest in joining WBY's Harry Potter Wild Magical Ride as I've already read and watched the entire Harry Potter series and couldn't fit it into my schedule even if I wanted to.

message 395: by Barbara ★ (last edited Jul 16, 2013 10:04AM) (new)

Barbara ★ I'm working on #96 but I'm stuck on #26 across. Anyone working on this puzzle?
The clue: Cadet Blue has lots of these.
Answer: _O_ _

I also can't figure out how to save it. Darn can't email it if I can't save it. Maybe I can use the snipping tool. Hmmm

message 396: by Barbara ★ (last edited Jul 16, 2013 10:14AM) (new)

Barbara ★ Never mind. I got it. Now to figure out how to save it.
Got it. Yippee another one down.

message 398: by jingles (new)

jingles I've only read the first one, and it was okay, but it will probably be along time before I get to book two - if I ever do.

So, I won't be joining either.
