JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Next Steps

If you would like to participate, let us know by posting below.

When you post, if you can let me know if you are already participating in any other NBRC challenges, that might help us narrow the list for our two choices.

Please tell us by Wednesday, Aug 21 so that we have time to finalize our planning.

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments Thanks JoLene for putting that up!

Do the two choices have to be the same for all members?

message 454: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Thanks JoLene that's much clearer and it's not as difficult as I thought it sounded.

I'm going to use either the Author Alphabet Reading Challenge or the Setting Alphabet Reading Challenge AND The Mystery, Mayhem, and Murder Squad Reading Challenge.

message 455: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Actually Barbara, the 2 choices do have to be the same which is why I'm asking people to put up the challenges that they are already participating in.

message 456: by jingles (new)

jingles I won't be participating in this one.

Barbara ★ JoLene wrote: "Actually Barbara, the 2 choices do have to be the same which is why I'm asking people to put up the challenges that they are already participating in."

that's a bummer. Do we have to coordinate letters too? In other words can more than one person do A or B?

message 458: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Yes --- for the A-Z challenge, we can only do each letter once as a team. However, in the book a day challenge, several team members can do the same day, but each person can only do it a day once.

message 459: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I submitted puzzles #112, 113, 114, 115. I'll try to work on #111 (the 21 piece slider) tonight on my computer with the wide monitor. Unless of course, someone else wants to attempt this one.

message 460: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ JoLene wrote: "Actually Barbara, the 2 choices do have to be the same which is why I'm asking people to put up the challenges that they are already participating in."

In that case I am participating in the following challenges:
Game of Thrones Challenge
Herbs & Spices A-Z
Mystery, Mayhem and Murder Challenge
Cooking & Cookware A-Z
Stuck In A Rut Challenge
It's All in A Title Challenge

message 461: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments The cooking and spices ones are Spell It Outs -- is that correct?

I am doing Camp GottaRead and Mystery, Mayhem and Murder.

ETO - how about you??

Anyone else?

message 462: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ yes. spell it outs.
I'm doing camp gottaread too but I didn't list it since it ends on 9/21.

message 463: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments We can do any of the challenges, so Camp GottaRead would also work as far as I know. I will double check.

Yes, any challenge may be used, regardless of when it closes to the regular group.

message 465: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Submitted puzzles 116, 117 and 118. Haven't started on #111 just yet as I'm working my way up to it. :)

message 466: by jingles (new)

jingles I worked for awhile on puzzle #111 late yesterday afternoon, but was not able to get it done.

I haven't had a chance to get back to it as of yet, but will try to do so as well.

Maybe one of us will get it done, eventually.

:)

More encryption puzzles are coming from this Captain of Pain.
You might need some help, or a bit of Novocain.

If you need a hint, for any quote or spell,
what letter you desire, be sure to tell.

Redeem a “Blinkie” cupcake you have earned.
Choose wisely, to help you decipher and discern.

Will it take only one, two, or three?
To set you on the right path, it’s such a small fee.

We don’t want those cupcakes to go to waste.
Consider logically where the “t” could be placed.

Or maybe you’ll want an altogether different choice.
It’s important, as there are no hints that have voice.

For the clue to be helpful, Captain Cupcake must know,
to reveal from the alphabet what you want him to show.

With each submission, be sure to make clear,
which letter from this Captain you want to hear!

See, we don’t want your cupcakes going to waste.
So tell us the letter for which you’d like a taste.

It’s almost like magic: a “Blinkie” for a hint,
to earn a “bouncing” or “Triple Threat.”
That’s a “Blinkie” well spent!

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments @Captain Cupcake and/or mods:
For the puzzles that you want us to mail in --- can we work on them within our own team thread. The GR email system doesn't allow mailings to multiple people, so it would be easier if we can work on things within this thread. (Although I know other teams sometimes look -- maybe we mark with spoilers)

message 469: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Just a thought JoLene, we could post our question here and the person who has the answer could PM the questioner. I'm not comfortable posting if everyone can see.

message 470: by Katie (new)

Katie Yeah that sometimes happens to me too. Some things, just not comfortable about saying.

message 471: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments We could make our own private group :-)

I was just thinking ahead to encryption puzzles where you may want to see the puzzle in process before we use a cupcake.

message 472: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Anyone else want to do the Sept challenge?

Current participants:
Barbara: 29
ETO: 19
JoLene: 7
Meaning we need to read 55 books between the 3 of us.

Optional Challenge Proposal:
* (A-Z) Author Alphabet Reading Challenge
* The Mystery, Mayhem, and Murder Squad Reading Challenge

That's a good idea JoLene. It would surely help with all these puzzles.

message 474: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ JoLene, you're probably going to have to send PMs to the missing members because if they were seeing the posts they would have responded already.

message 475: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Katie wrote: "Yeah that sometimes happens to me too. Some things, just not comfortable about saying."

and this is the reason for the secret group. :)

I'm in for my one book. No challenges to consider.

message 477: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments I think a private group for us is a great idea....I don't want to have to add spoilers if we talk about puzzles, too much effort.

JoLene, will you be creating the group?

message 478: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 105 comments I can't commit to any mini challenges at the moment, hope you all have fun.

message 479: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Sure -- I will create later today --- gotta run to work. Not sure why we didn't think of it sooner.

We just need to make sure that we only use for puzzle solving ---- since the mods like to see our nice conversations here :-D (because we are such a talkative bunch :-D)

**chuckles**

As far as working on "blinkies" as a group, and submitting them separately, that is fine. As are working on the other puzzles.

message 481: by jingles (new)

jingles I'm on board with the secret group.

message 482: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments OK -- the secret group has been created. If you are friends with me, I sent a group invite. If you're not friends with me, I sent an individual email.

See you there :-D

Thanks JoLene, I hate those things (especially the bigger ones) and didn't even want to think about that one.

That's great, Jolene. I tried it several times, working on it late in the afternoon here at work, but just could never get it done.

I'm glad you were finally able to do it.

message 486: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Yeah --- sliders are not my favorite either, but I was watching So You Think You Can Dance and just worked on it in between dances :-D

message 495: by jingles (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments #124 emailed for Team Mauvelous (Thanks so Barbara and Jingles and Hina :-D)

I think we are up to date on the puzzles.

Hina -- are we close to hitting the 75 books for the August Challenge?? It looks like it. We can use the cupcakes to make up a couple of books because we have a lot of the regular cupcakes :-D

message 497: by Hina (last edited Aug 28, 2013 12:44PM) (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 884 comments As of now I think we are at 69 done out of the 75 in the first round. All the categories are finished except the 5 W's which I have to read two more books, and I will finish that one by the 30th and are missing 2 of the books to finish summer category. We have been able to do some repeat categories which puts us over 75 books.

message 498: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Hina, I don't know which 2 you need but I'm currently reading The Sweetest Thing which is a contemporary romance with a second chance theme. And Winter Kiss is a paranormal about a dragon shifter.

The summer is much harder and I don't currently have anything that would fit. If I come across one in the next couple of days, I'll let you know.

message 499: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Turns out The Sweetest Thing was set during the summer.

message 500: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ oops just realized this is posted to the wrong folder.
