Can I suggest you go to the feedback group Ace? Browse the topics first to see if this problem is being discussed - if you can't find it, create your own thread about it:) https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
Good luck!

Sail to Singapore to join a ship to Dubai and the fly home to burn all our frequent flyer points in case they cancel them :-o)
I am hoping to keep a blog going with photos etc so if you're interested try http://www.silverfox175.wordpress.com/ and click on 'about me' then 'follow' and it should be automatic.
If you get fed up just unclick follow . . :-o)
cheers

Message from Goodreads posted about two hours ago.
Private messaging (between users) will be down for approximately 2 hours tonight starting at 8:00 p.m. Pacific time. It should last no longer than 2 hours (though we're hoping it will actually be less time than that), so please don't panic if you can't send/receive messages during this time. We'll do our best to make sure this is as short as possible.

I couldn't even begin to calculate the time for us:) I just thought some one might try to send a message at some point and wonder why it didn't work.

*I submitted feedback on this.

Someone from GR has posted information about this in the feedback group, Andrea - https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... and almost at the end of her post it says:
"Soon, we’ll be adding more features and functionality, including:
* Updates feed preference toggles to help you control what you see in your feed (the new updates feed will respect whatever preferences you’ve already set on the current homepage, but you’ll need to switch back to the current homepage to change these for the time being)
* Links to all your bookshelves
* More updates feed content (including Listopia votes, giveaways, and other updates from friends and authors you follow)
* A link to your group discussions from the main navigation
* The ability to post general status updates"
I'm not sure why they released the beta testing without those functions as they would impact largely on how people use GR!

I submitted the same feedback. I don't like what they plan to release. Let's hope they delay it until at least discussion threads are visible on the homepage...

Thanks Kathryn, that's good to know. But it still sounds like it will be buried at least one page deep (ie not on the homepage). Let's see what they come up with.

I'm not sure, but at the moment there is a link to group discussions in the main navigation (if that means your homepage) if you're on "Discussions" rather than "Updates", so I figured that it would include something like that... But I guess we'll have to wait and see!

Notifications are what I use to keep track of the ones I want to follow - anything else I just go to the unread on the group page.
Still will wait and see how it plays out.

Good thinking Brenda. I believe they have posted a link in the gr feedback threads that takes you back to "normal", but after my last experience I didn't go searching for it.
@Sally, I normally have my discussions on my homepage where I get the top 4 activities in each group. This is my 90% of the time back to base page, so I would really miss it if its not available easily.

The other thing I had to do is drop a few groups as it became information overload on the discussions page.

Excuse me while I go to my room to have my meltdown...

Go to the Feedback group girls. Sorry I can't link it for you (on my phone) but it's easy to find. We've been chatting about this in the chat thread too.

What happened to "if it ain't broke don't fix it?"
Mine is the same Jools..obviously the thought was improvement. But I'll be curious to check out the Feedback group when I can..I think there will be some volatile comments happening!
Yes Jools that's it! Thanks :) I'm on my phone tucked in the corner of a coffee shop, waiting a few hours for my car! Lol
It'll make interesting reading when I'm eventually on my laptop :)

Only if you don't get RSI from all the extra mouseclicks required to find and follow it.
The Feedback group is running very hot! Some good suggestions though like bookmarking the discussions page so you avoid going to the home page at all.
I still haven't got the new one though:)

I'm sure it's coming your way Phrynne! I got it last week so they must be taking a while to roll it out. Still don't like it and it is so slow to load on the iPad. Surely they beta tested and got feedback first?

They did but apparently ignored much of the feedback.

Which is usual :) How do you "bookmark the discussion page"? I guess you don't know yet without it front of you Phrynne...

I haven't bookmarked the discussion page, but it's what I'll be mostly using from now on, I think. It's easy to get to - just hover your mouse over "community" in the bar at the top of the page, and click on "discussions".
For those of you who would like to make your feelings known, there's a survey about the new home page!

Ahh thanks Kathryn!

Ahh thanks Kathryn!
It's only what I read but it seems if you have the discussions page open when you save it to favourites on your computer then that is where it will open next time you turn on.
As I say, I don't really know because I haven't done it myself yet:)

I've done the survey (not that I think it will make any difference) and will continue to fiddle with it :)

Brenda, I'm using Firefox and am afraid to change to another whatchmacallit (??) in case I lose things when I access other sites.

I feel exactly the same, Jools

I still haven't got the new one though:)"
Ah, thanks for this suggestion Phrynne. That's exactly what I will do to avoid all the ADVERTISING which now constitutes the home page.

As the convenor of my real-time book club, I have been trying to encourage some of the less tech-savvy members of the group to use Goodreads. I had arranged for an AV presentation at this month's up-coming meeting, so I could demonstrate how I use GR to monitor my reading choices and to exchange comments with other readers. There is no way in a million years that I would continue with the presentation, now that the so-called 'improvements' have stuffed up the visuals of the site so comprehensively. Judging by the stream of angry comments posted here, regular, competent users are very unhappy. Can you imagine trying to introduce new users to this total disaster area?

There's tips on the GR feedback on 2 important changes you can make on your browser to avoid some of the new features. One is Adblocker an addon you need to download. Two is a browser redirct function that when you hit Home it takes you to Discussions. Hard work, but might be worth it in the long run if you use the same PC a lot.
