I had a similar problem with Amazon US; it wouldn't let me buy anything via that site because I lived in AU!

My sister emailed me yesterday. She'd wanted to gift a book to my daughter for her birthday, but couldn't because of the AU restriction. So I had to buy it for her (she's on my account) and my sister will pay me back. It's just another thing where Australia is so far behind everyone else with Amazon.
So annoying isn't it? Had no idea this would happen when I 'did the right thing' and changed to the .au store.
Haha, I just remembered, my sister came to see me today and forgot to pay me back! :D
You know with all the kerfuffle about Goodreads/Amazon, it struck me that we can complain all we like. But the powers that be are going to go ahead and do what they want anyway. So, no use complaining...Where else would we go? GR is by far the best site, user friendly, lots of discussion sites etc.

A quick update on transferring Amazon.com.au accounts back to the US. It is now possible! Yay! I can now gift books again. A completely different online chat person explained how after I received a gift card that I couldn't use. Maybe it's a new thing, but I don't really care. I have a useful account again.

I did think I'd only end up with the US account, but after I transferred it back, I could still purchase on the AU one with the one click button. Depends why you want to join the AU one really.

I had an Amazon US account and when I put the kindle app on my iPad and tried to purchase a book it said please transfer to your AmazonAu account. I hadn't even made it. It had the same email and password. I just change back and forward between them. I can't purchase ebooks on the Us one
I was recently told that the formatting on my book Missing in Egypt on Amazon was dreadful. Sure enough, when I checked the formatting had gone! I had to reload it - don't know why it happened. My other book, Winston - A Horse's Tale was fine. Has anyone else had this problem?

That is really kind of funny. But why, why, why? For free books? I still don't get it. I just had a quick look at that thread and wonder how they are checking if they are plagiarized?
Ah, I think I get it, stealing reviews is one thing, but stealing copyright books, then using those copyrighted reviews to steal from authors is a bit of an awful problem. I've noticed a few ebook sites claiming to have my books for free, a few months back, and was going to go back and take a closer look when I lost my computer. Something I must chase up when I have a new pc.

This is worrisome - I searched one of my recent reviews just to see - and it has been ripped off - some lazy reviewer called sally906 on goodreads has copied my review word for word!!!!Oh - wait a minute that's me!
Phew - the only version it found was my own - so I checked another one - this time two people had done it - that old sally906 on goodreads again and now a blog called books and musings from downunder!!!
Oh wait a minutes - thats me too!!! Double phew!!!
On a serious note - it does happen - I have an alarm on my Wordpress blog if someone tries to steal content electronically.
I did have one of my reviews posted on an e-book site without permission - and it did link back to me but posted a comment asking it to be removed.
The thing is - if I am doing a review for a publisher or author I always ask them if there is anywhere else they want the review posted other than here, my blog and amazon. So why people think it is alright to swipe people's reviews is beyond me.
At least good reads is looking into it though, in the thread that Brenda linked to Goodreads responds:
"...we've definitely confirmed that the sites mentioned in this thread are illegally scraping our content. Our team is going to look into this further. We really, really appreciate you bringing this to our attention..."
This morning I have discovered that the whole look and layout of my Goodreads account has changed OVERNIGHT! WHY? There's a very old saying, which I believe is relevant here: 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it.'
You mean your profile, Mary? Mine seems to be the same as it was.

If you are interested (or if anyone else is), you can check it out here (https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...) and leave feedback in the survey, although they did say in one of the posts that they wouldn't be making great changes from the new design that they've floated so I'm not sure how much feedback will be taken on board.
I didn't think they were going to roll it out across the board for a couple more weeks though...

I'm not that fussed about it, and I couldn't see what is wrong with the current navigation, but I suppose I'll get used to it! The main problem at the moment for me is that when you mouseover the notifications, when the threads are revealed, it doesn't say which are the threads with new messages... So hopefully they'll fix that :-)
And I still don't know how MaryG2E's GR could look different unless she'd clicked on the link in that thread!!! Unless GR has been doing some fiddling which has affected the appearance for some users and not others, because my navigation is still the current/old one unless I've clicked on the link that day!

But I like it other than being able to find the Home button, which I commented on in the survey. There doesn't appear to be one, so how do we get to our feeds?

And actually, you don't need to do the survey, but you do need to click the "Next" button to get to the page where you can click the link to open a new tab with the new navigation. And it seems to last until the next day (something to do with the cookies and how long they last apparently), unless you click on the link in the first post to take you back to the current navigation.

And I could take or leave the big drop-down menus when you accidentally move your mouse over "Browse" or "Community"! But like I say, it still works OK and I'll get used to it, I'm sure...
