As far as dates read and challenges. I'm guessing I'm one of the few lucky ones as all of my challenge books are posting just fine. I did notice that my most recent book didn't have the dates so I put a note to self at the bottom of my review.
I also have a Book Catalogue app that works brilliantly on my phone. I simply enter the ISBN number, ASIN , but there are four easy ways to enter books. Then the app puts in dates, publisher, series, ect. for me. It has places for notes and places for start and finish dates plus the ratings. I've set up all of my shelves as I want them to appear on GR. I only have to update anything about the books and then send an update to GR. Everything is then transferred to GR. It saves me heaps of time and is easier to use then GR. I love it. Again it's all done from my phone or tablets but any changes go directly to the online GR site. No matter how many changes I make. The catalogue is also baked up to the device and I save the CSV with all the information to my Google Drive in case something happens to my device I don't lose everything. I just reinstall the app and load the information back to it, or reload everything from GR to the catalogue app. This is just a personal preference but I would be lost without it if anything ever happens to my information on GR.
With all the changes going on here, I decided to copy and paste all my challenges onto a draft page in my email. This way if something happens, I can just copy/paste it back again. That's partly why I put my review links with them as I go as I'm crippled if I don't save my reviews somewhere!
Every system works for different people and they all have their drawbacks but I thought I'd share it as it might help anyone who wants ideas. It seems like a lot of work but a few minutes of back up plans saves me at least ten times as much work if I lost anything on GR, either by a site problem or by my operator error ( which is usually the case!)
If anyone is interested in the app, it's on GOOGLE Play Store. Called Book Catalogue, Evan Layborn and Philip Warner
Anyway....
This probably isn't of interest to anyone but there it is.

At any rate, thanks for listening.

There are still ways to add your reading updates. This requires you to use the share icons or copy URLs.

I’m happy about that change, as I prefer to deliberately share my reviews, rather than accidentally have them appear (because I forgot to uncheck) and then have to delete them and cross my fingers on the Facebook side.

At any rate, thanks for listening."
Love hearing your thoughts Owl! And always appreciate the effort you put in to sharing, even though people don't always reply it never goes astray 😉

Bit late responding! August was a busy month but I'm slowly catching up! During my weekend NASCAR races is when I catch up, then it will be Hocky and football soon!

On the website/desktop version, when I select
"Community-->Discussion" which takes me to:
www . goodreads . com / topic
I usually see discussion posts for all of my groups, but lately I am seeing discussion posts for ANY book I have read for which a random person has created a "topic". I am not subscribed to these discussions and can't find a way to remove them from my feed.
I once accidentally switched to mobile version on my iPad and ended up with a weird screen. Have you done something like that?

No Phrynne, I actually know how the mobile version to desktop version switch works but I haven't done this for ages, even accidentally.
I might go and check my settings as I did change some email settings the other day, maybe I hit something there by accident, if anything.
I assume that this is only happening to me right now then. Lucky me!

Yes!!! So small I didn't even see that there. Thanks Andrea :-)

I think it must be a glitch Kerri as I've noticed it myself. I'd suggest you go to the Feedback Group and pose the question there. Someone may be able to help you. https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...

Posted 3 books today on 2 different threads, ones that I’m reading and received 8 (yes 8) emails for each posting from GR alerting me that I had posted the items 🙄
In addition to the message, the emails also included the binary code. Really hope this is temporary. Really clutters up my in box.

Didn't get 100s of email notifications though so that was good :)

Thanks do much for the link Phrynne. I saved it so I can use it in the future when their next glitch occurs 😉

We have some progress with an update from one of the mods
I am happy to let you know that while the maintenance continues, we were able to restore some of the previously-affected areas to normal functionality. The following should now be working as usual:
* number of books visible on your My Book page
* number of reviews visible on book pages
* progress updates visible on the homepage
Thanks for your patience!

For those who are not aware, Goodreads Feedback group is closing down on 28th May and they are going to a Help section. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
A group has been created which will hold archived Feedback topics and might prove helpful to anyone with issues.
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
I think there'll be an announcement when the FB group closes and the Help begins (I hope!)

As of June 20, only Goodreads Librarians and Authors will be allowed to add books to the Goodreads database. Also, as of July 5 many features are being discontinued. See: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

I received the following email from Goodreads overnight and decided it was good info to share here.
We will be phasing out the following content:
Creative writing
Members will no longer be able to upload new creative writing stories effective July 5, 2022. The creative writing feature will be removed from Goodreads on Sept. 1, 2022. If you are interested in sharing more of your writing with readers, we encourage you to learn how Kindle Direct Publishing can help you.
Favourite authors
We are simplifying how you can stay updated on authors whose books you love. We will be removing the favorite authors list on Sept. 1, 2022 and instead encourage you to follow your favorite authors. Select ‘follow’ on your favorite authors page or on each author’s profile page. This will ensure you get news about these authors and updates on their new books.
Updates to reviews creation
To streamline the review creation page on desktop, we will no longer include the options of who recommended a book and who to recommend it to after July 5, 2022. If you would like to recommend a book to a friend on Goodreads, you can do this easily from the recommend a book page. If you would still like to record who recommended it within the book review, we suggest you add this directly to the review or in the private notes section on the review edit page (learn how to add a private note).
Owned books
As part of streamlining our reviews creation page on desktop, we're phasing out the option to add details about owned books such as condition and purchase date on July 5, 2022. Members will still have the option to mark a book as owned within the 'more details' section when writing their review on desktop. You can later view a list of your owned books by adding the owned books column in My Books (learn how to customize the My Books page). Visit our help center to learn how to create and add books to your 'owned' bookshelf.
Friend stories, Quizzes, Trivia, and/or Adding a photo to a book
Goodreads will no longer support the creation of new quizzes, trivia, friend stories in the friend list, or photos to a book page effective July 5, 2022. These features will be removed from Goodreads on Sept. 1, 2022.
To learn more about these upcoming changes or for help downloading your data, please visit our help center.

I just noticed that only GR librarians can add new books to the GR data base now, as of last month. It also seems that photos of covers can only be obtained from Amazon. I'm a bit concerned about what that will mean for Australian books since there will be a number that will not be available on Amazon! I'm wondering if this might be what makes me leave the site.
This is a link to a request for I've added for a local Australian books to be added. NLA link attached too. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Yes that's the case now Kim, but I wasn't aware of that with cover pics. I use publishers sites (as well as Amazon) and am not having a problem with that.
Good luck with your request!

An interesting article on Goodreads and how it makes money... https://bookriot.com/how-does-goodrea...

Kim, I replied to your request, but thought I'd better answer it here as well.
"Kim, we've never been able to add covers or information from ebay. Its to do with copyright.
If you have the book, you can take a photo/scan and add it to your pictures, and a librarian can get it from there.

At no time has it been mentioned that a cover needs to be on amazon. Its just easier for us to grab a cover from there.
For your info, the List of Acceptable Sources: https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

I didn’t read all of it, but I’m pretty sure they don’t make any money off me! I ignore their ads and recommendations, to the point where I just don’t notice them. Considering how much user data they collect, I find their targeting abysmal - zero interest.
For those of you who own a Kindle Fire, it seems Goodreads no longer supports the app on same. https://help.goodreads.com/s/question...
Poor customer service from Amazon, especially as it's their kindle!

Oh no!! I haven't looked at that yet! As others say, why can't they fix things that are wrong...
