Do you think thisis all brought about by GR being owned by Amazon now?

Don't know. Do amazon have a similar poilcy on reviews on their site? I know they check them all before publishing them.

It doesn't say anything about the review being about the authors specifically, but it does say:
Objectionable material:
• Obscene or distasteful content including sexually explicit or sexually gratuitous comments
• Profane or spiteful remarks
• Content which might be considered defamatory, blasphemous, racist or incendiary
• Remarks that repeat criminal accusations
Which is basically the same thing that GR is saying.

Anyway, nowadays I am getting addicted to assassins. Can anyone recommend me a good book featuring one?"
I can't remember, but have you read [bookcover:Mind..."
I added them to my TBR.Thanks Greta.

And even with those guidelines they have all those reviews about veet for men. ridiculous.

I know! Deleting reviews that are just mean comments about an author is kind of understandable because the person is only writing it to be mean, but there is no reason not to give the member a week or so to change it. If there is an actual review involved though, well I'm sorry, but I don't think GR has a right to delete it. We all have the right to our own opinion, even if it isn't a nice one. And it's completely asinine that they are deleting shelves. Some people take years to build their shelves and what if the shelf isn't actually about an author? For instance, I have a shelf titled "Not For Me." All I have on that shelf are books that I've read and I didn't like. Are they going to delete that shelf? And what makes them think it's ok to remove a shelf that is specifically about certain authors? Some people don't like the way certain authors write. Are those people not entitled to have a shelf for the authors they'd like to steer clear of?
What's next? Are they going to ban swearing too?
There was something about suggestions to get rid of reviews where the person didn't finish the book as well. How is that fair? We're not allowed to say that we couldn't finish the book?
My internet is being very annoying. for some reason it won't let me use amazon. how am I supposed to shop when it won't let me go on amazon!

Gah I know! If I can't finish the book then I can't finish it. How is that not important to my review? I didn't like it enough to finish it, but that doesn't mean I didn't put effort into trying. I still want to see when others haven't finished a book. That could mean that the writing is bad or the storyline is awful and that could help me make a decision about reading that book. Isn't that the whole point of reviews? So we can read reviews and decide whether or not we want to read it based on what others think?

Awe that sucks!

I know what you mean, if someone who generally has the same reactions to books as me didn't finish something then I know it's probably not the book for me. Likewise if someone who has very different tastes didn't finish it, then I know I'll probably like it!
Does anyone else do that?

There's a few people i'm like that with.
I have someone on my friends list who has the same zombie taste, so if there's a zombie book she hates, i won't get it.
If there's a book that you don't really like, (Like a 2 stars rating) i won't get it, because i know i'll probably end up hating it, or not finishing it. (You have a bit more patience than me, Haha)

Lol I do that! There are a number of people that I check out their thoughts about a book I'm on the fence about. The funny thing is that I have more people with completely opposite tastes than me than I have people who are really similar to me. Lol

Lol I do the same thing. If Sarah gives it a 3 then I'm iffy, but anything lower and I won't read it.

I couldn't read gone girl so I put it in my didn't finish it category so are they going to delete that it's not fair for them to say we can't have our say

that would piss me off! i generally don't review a book that i can't finish just for personal taste reasons...but if i don't finish it because the writing was awful then i think i'm well within my rights to review it and say that that is the reason i didn't finish!

exactly. we should be entitled to our own opinions! Soon we will get to the point where we will only be allowed to publish positive reviews, and where is the freedom of speech in that?!
I thought we were allowed to talk about books we didn't like on goodreads!

Working in a bookstore would be the best job ever.
(But i think i'd scare customers away by getting a bit excited over books i love, haha.)
I'd like to work in a book shop too, but i seriously doubt i'd ever make any money, I'd buy so many books i'd probably end up owing them!
Good Luck Jalyn!

That and I didn't like how helpless Evie always was in book one. This time she knows what she is, and she's prepared to defend herself.
