I haven't read The Darkest Minds yet, but I loved Angelfall! I didn't like Shatter Me though I seem to be in the minority with my opinion on that book.

At my friends house and her two year old is running around in nothing but a t-shirt, and he has constantly got a hand on his private bits! is it just me that thinks that this is weird?

Is this the same friend as before or is this another person? My kids never ran around naked (unless I was trying to get them in or out of the tub and they made a jail break. Lol). I let them run around in just their underwear or diaper when it was hot and nobody else was here, yes, but bottom naked around company, no.

The fascination with private parts is kind of part of development for kids though. Most kids go through that. It's also possible that he's at a stage where he won't keep his clothes on. That happens with some kids too.

Same person. not trying to get him in the bath, and she just didn't bother to put clothes on him again after he wet himself. I know boys like to mess with their bits, but i don't let mine run around with no clothes on and his hands on his bits all the time. i don't think she's setting the best example. will she still let him do this when he comes home from school? its not like he argues when she puts clothes on him, and it's not even warm here today. all his toys must have traces of urine in them cause he's always naked and got one hand on his bits! yuck.

If he has no problem wearing clothes then it kind of sounds like the mom is just being lazy. If he was 2 and wouldn't keep his clothes on then it would still be gross, but understandable. Have you said anything to her or asked her about it?

I would suggest that you reread a book that you couldn't put down. I barely read for the entire first half of this year. It sucked a lot. I was going to reread the Harry Potter books, but I ended up finding and reading a book that I loved and that started me up again.

Brooke wrote: "Does anyone have suggestions for getting out of a reading slump?"

I do this:
1. Read something that you have read before and loved
2. Go through your books, the library, or reviews and find something that really excites you,
3. Find something short to read - when you finish you'll feel like you've accomplished something,
4. change genres - this can sometimes help,
5. do a buddy read - this really motivates me!
6. give yourself a target and reward eg- if i read 3 chapters I can have a chocolate cupcake,
7. join a challenge - so you're reading for a reason/goal
8. do something else, then go back to the book when you have a quiet moment - try going for a walk, meeting friends, playing a game, having a nap even.

I hate reading block!

she just says 'oh he likes being naked', and seems to think its fine. i just hate that she doesn't wash his hands before meals, and thinks its fine for him to do it at other peoples houses too. it just seems unhygienic when he's playing with other kids toys and stuff!

She doesn't make him wash his hands before he eats?!?! Gah! I can't believe that she thinks it's ok to do all of that at other people's homes too. That's so strange and, to be honest, disgusting. If I were you, I'd insist that she put a diaper on her child while she's at your house. She can do whatever she wants in her own home (even though it's gross), but if you don't want her doing that at your house then she shouldn't do it.

I'm trying not to let her come here at all now. he had diarrhoea on a friends cream carpet a few months ago when she was 'potty training' him, and I've tried to not invite her round since. i made a big deal about taking him for a wee and putting his pants back on. I'm getting sick of it though.
