* Mike goes to one of the storage holds and comes back with a small computer (on which he disables any ability co contact any other web) and sets out to connect the strange cylinder. This turns out to be easy as the cylinder adapts itself to the connector. *

*I sit down at the computer and check on the screen. I cock my head to the side as I check on the ship then hurry to find you. I enter the room where you are* Ummm...Mike....the ship is gone..vanished...
* Mike looks up from the screen * Gone where??? Gone? It can't just vanish. See if you can trace the ion trail.. See if the computer traced it, it may have picked up speed and crashed or I suppose it could have skipped off the atmosphere and gone into a wide orbit. If it has it will be falling back this way in time. We'll have to find it.
But look at this...
* Mike points to the screen as he goes back to hooking in speakers*
*I lean in to look over your shoulder to see what you had found* What is it? Something good?
* Mike gestured to the screen which had text on it:I am Altara. My brain is in this cylinder. It will keep me alive for (an untranslated word for some measure of time). I was installed in the ship to control and run it. To keep me alive you will need to hook up my oxygen supply and nourishment.
Then there were instructions as to how to build support for Altara's brain. *
So, I don't know how long we have but we need to get this built. Then we need to find out where that ship went.
*I look over the instructions.* Hey the ship can make this in no time, can't it?
with our programing. I'm getting it in now. I hope we have time. I hooked up an audio pickup and speakers, don't know if...Altara, can communicate in this form or not.
*I look at Altara, opening my mind* No...I can't even contact Altara with my mind. I think we need to hurry.
Okay.....these plans are in and the fabricator is going. Humm, okay...odd chemical compounds. Should be ready in a few minutes.
*I watch nervously* I'm going to go check to see if I can see the ship again. *I run out and hurry to the computer, looking at the screen. I yell back to you* Mike! The ship has just reappeared and it's closer!
* Mike is attaching the lines to the "brain box" and looks over his shoulder.*Where is it? Is it still drifting...
hold on....
okay that should keep her brain alive.
*I chew on my lower lip, looking confused* It's gone again...maybe it has some sort of cloaking device that is on the fritz..Mike...it's kind of freaking me out.
Okay...hang on...* Mike has secured the "brain-box" into a device that's pumping liquids into attachments on said box. It in turn is secured to the wall.*
Okay the small computer is still wired in. I suppose we can leave Altara on her own for a while. Let's take the ship up and check out what's going on.
Where did the ship show up last?
*I chew on my lower lip and point to where the ship had been, about forty feet from where it had been yesterday* In this area, closer to us.
Okay... I'd suggest we still don't give Altara access to the ship's systems, at least not yet. You ready to launch or do you think we can take time to recoup a little? We've been going for a couple of days with little rest.
*I lean my head against your shoulder* I say we rest. I feel like I'm about to collapse.
* Mike nods. He sets the ship's systems to alarm if anything enters past one of the 3 satellites they have up. In case they miss anything the ships sensors will catch anything coming down with a hundred miles around them.Mike put's his arm around her. *
Yeah, we need rest. Let's stay in the ship in case.
I'm game. *I lean more into you, stifling a yam as we make our way back to our bedroom.* So sleepy all of a sudden...
Hope that's natural...no more adventures for a while...I hope.* Get to their room in the ship and quickly fall asleep.*
*I roll over the next morning, slowly sitting up, not really wanting to get up but knowing that I had to. I look down at you and smile, kissing you in order to wake you up*
Nice.... * Mike returns the kiss*Lets take time to eat and get ready then we'll check for any sign of that ship. It's waited this long hopefully another couple of hours won't be unforgivable.
*I slip out of bed* Sounds good to me. * I kiss you once more before I enter the bathroom to take a shower*
* Mike goes down the corridor to another of the unused baths and cleans up also. Then he goes to the control room and runs a checklist getting the ship ready for launch and then checks the sensors and read outs for any sign of the strange Firefly ship that had been drifting through the system.It has settled into a distant orbit around the planet but does give some odd readings, occasionally seeming to "flicker" in and out of existence.
Thoughtfully he heads to the galley for breakfast. *
*I dry my hair and get dressed before I head to get some breakfast. I enter the mess hall and go to grab some eggs Benedict, hash browns, English muffins, bacon, and a tall glass of milk. I set it down and begin to eat, enjoying the food. I look up when you come in and smile* Hey lover! Anything neon our mystery ship?
Well...it's flickering in and out of....reality I suppose. * Mike takes a bite of steak and eggs and chews as he thinks. * I don't have any idea what that means...
Parallel universe? Flickering between two worlds?
Who knows? Dimensional shift, alternate universe...hole in space time, No idea. No odd readings. No apparent warping of space that the instruments show.I think we might want to approach...carefully however.
*I make a face and finish my breakfast, my eyebrows knitted together. Once done, I look at you and sigh heavily* Weapons out the wazoo?
Well, hopefully we'll be able to stay in the ship, but if we have to board or something...yeah. I guess we get close first. If that things falling into a different reality I don't think I want to go on board.Unless of course someone needs rescuing...
* Mike sighs*
*I stretch and stand* Well then I'm off to get some weapons. I'll meet you at the ship?
Cool... I'll finish getting things ready, my weapons are already on board.
*I quickly kiss you then hurry back to our room to get my weapons. I pack knives, throwing stars, and a few guns with extra ammo. I finish up and head for the ship*
* The launch goes well and the ship is in excellent shape. They break atmosphere and allow their ship to approach the newcomer obliquely. Once withing visual range the ship appears to "shimmer" in place.*Well, we're getting sporadic readings here but there does seem to be life form readings. They look human though like everything else they're coming in and out. Not sure we should try boarding that.
I can't tell if the ship is caught in some kind of anomaly or if it's the source.
*I sit next to you, chewing my lip gently* I could make us doubles and they can take a camera to feed our computer with live footage.
We can try that...we might lose a shuttle. Okay try it. I'll maneuver us close you send our double over in a shuttle with all the sensors and video we equipment they can carry.Be careful.
*I smile and nod. i close my eyes and let out a breath as I concentrate. Beside us, the air wavered then stood still as you and I appeared. I opened my eyes* There all done. *Your clone waves at you*
Okay.....* Mike is maneuvering the ship close and watching the instruments. *
I've prepped the shuttle. Get them equipped and launched. I'll get us close and try to hold us away from any....slipping out of this universe or into another.
*I quickly stand and run to the shuttle, the other me and you following me. I find the cameras and attach them to your clone and mine, making sure that they are all on* Are you seeing what the cameras are seeing Mike?
* Mike checks and then throws the view onto the main screen.*Yes it's clear...get the shuttle out there's something, creepy going on here. I'm dropping back a little. We're wavering.
Creepy? Like sci-if horror creepy? *Our clones quickly get on the shuttle and launch as I reenter the control room and sit down next to you* what's going on?
Yeah. Our port side started to slide out of phase. I pulled us back. There's no readings but I think there's some kind of...field or something around the ship.Is the shuttle away??? Oh yeah i see it now. I'm pulling us back some more.
*I chew on my lip nervously as I watch the shuttle get closer to the ship, the readings that they were getting being sent to our ship* Well it looks like the ship is stable but yes something is shifting it into another reality. I didn't even know there was a wormhole or another reality so close to our planet.
Well, we still don't know the source. It could be something else, something about the ship... Just don't know.Okay, the bay door is opened and the, doubles are in. That should be the cargo bay in this ship. Let's see what they find.
*My eyes turn towards the screen where we can see in front of the doubles as they slowly make their way deeper into the ship* Nothing so far. Maybe there is no one on board...or they are stuck in the other realm...
Humm...yeah. We need to get a look at the engine room. There's power, life support, but the ship's been drifting.
*I chew on my lip nervously as our doubles move to the engine room, showing us everything in the room*
Wait, wait go back...what's that tied into the engine?
*Your double turns back so that we can see whatever it was you spied* What?
There...that small, whatever it is behind the engine. this is a Firefly the engine room is pretty much self contained and small. That....box on the wall behind the engine. It's not part of the design, it's something, added on.May be nothing but I don't know what it is. Is there anything on it? If you're in contact have him step closer...okay?
*Your double steps forward and says I can hear you loud and clear....I move closer to the screen a little*
