Is there anything from the ship at all?

*I call out in my mind but shake my head sadly* It's gone quiet. Scary quiet...dead quiet...
Okay.... * Mike looks thoughtful.* Sad but I guess whatever or whoever mutated the creatures inside the ship caused it, her, or whatever we should call the ship to decide to save what could be saved.Let's see if this is our young charge's father and how many others survived.
*I nod and follow you off of the ship, Lar-Ka already having taken off to the ship, excited to see if that was his father in the ship. I gently take a hold of your arm to help me walk*
* It is Lar-Ka's father and a dozen or so refugees he rescued from an orbital platform that had been disguised as an asteroid. These and thirty-six survivors from the ship that destroyed itself are all that seem to have survived. They had left their planet several hundred or possibly a thousand plus of our years before fleeing a war.Lar-Ka's father suspects that what happened on the ship may have been done by a "spy" from the other "faction" in the war intent on wiping these out. *
*Lar-Ka tells his dad what had happened to mom and they held each other for a few moments, grieving their loss. I pull you to the side and look at you* What are we going to do? Let them live on this side of the planet? Or what?
I don't see we have any choice if that's what they want. I hate to have them leave and spread the word that the planet's here, though I suppose it can't be secret forever. But if they want to stay they can. Their metabolism is close enough to human to live on the food we eat though I'm sure it will be strange. We'll probably have to help them get started with seed and so on.Guess we need to talk to them.
*I nod and turn back to the others. Lar-Ka walks over to us, his dad in tow. Lar-Ka smiles at us* Thank you for letting us stay here. Dad has found another planet to live on a few jumps from here.
Okay...* Mike works at reaching out with his mind as it's not really his talent.*Is you shuttle alright and will it carry all your surviving people? Do you need any supplies?
*Lar-Ka's dad smiles and shakes his head. He pulls out a device and his smaller ship, with a press of a button, becomes a bigger shuttle that will carry everyone.* We'll be fine, thank you. And thank you for keeping an eye on my son.
Our pleasure, by the way he likes milkshakes.
Milkshakes? What are those? *His father looked confused*
* Mike grins. The explanation takes a while as it requires explaining what milk is, where it comes from and then the making of ice cream, and various flavorings. Mike regrets that the fighter they flew here can't make milkshakes.*
*The alien shook his head at the complexity* I'll never understand that. But thank you for trying. We better get going. We will never forget your kindness and your planet will be safe. We will never tell a soul about this beautiful place.
And we in turn will not mention you or your people. Feel free to contact us if you need anything we can supply.
*He nods his head to both of us then turns, speaking in another language, and his son and the others quickly wave then board the ship*
Well....that was interesting. What say we go investigate the blast sight to be sure of the situation. Then we get something to eat and after that lock ourselves in the bedroom for a couple of days?
I'm game for all of that and more! * I smile and wave as the ship lifts off the ground then disappears. I take your arm again as we make our way to the hole to make sure the disgusting aliens were truly dead*
* The cave has "caved in" so the earth is sunken into a sort of depression here. It takes a while to find an opening that's not blocked. Mike secures a rope, throws it down the hole. He then secures a light to his head and prepares to swing down.*Want to tie yourself to my back and slide down?
*I shake my head* No I'll be okay. You go first though just in case if I fall you can catch me.
Okay, but you know I can carry you with no problem...
*I shake my head and peer down into the darkness.* I'll be ok. Do you have your light ready?
I'll keep it strapped to my head, I have a couple extra if we need them.* Mike slides down the rope (having donned his leather gloves) and soon lands at the bottom.*
Careful. It's a mess down here. This must be fragments of the ship and all that was in it. Lot's of...jelled liquid all around, don't slip....
Wait, what's this....
*I grab the rope and slowly make my way down.* What's what? What did you find, Mike? *I get to the bottom and let go of the rope, nearly slipping* Whoa!
* Mike holds up an odd looking cylinder. The material it's made of is solid but with a translucent quality. It appears to be white but inside there are lights that shift and blink. A receptor on one end looks a lot like a universal computer connection*I found this here in the...slime and remains. You know this looks a lot like the material the ship was made of. We may have a part of the ship here, it's memory, it's brain or even it's mind. Think we should take it out and try connecting it to a computer?
*I look at it* That's amazing. I think we should give it a shot. Maybe the ship has more information about those creatures and why they changed, where they came from, and maybe if there are more.
It looks all that survived the...explosion intact. This place will be even more unpleasant soon.* They look around at the mass of "organic material" spread far out and notice that their boots and Mike's gloves are staring to decay.*
We forgot the acid blood, lets get out of here before our feet are getting eaten.
* I look around once more before I begin to climb back up the rope.* I hope this means that all of those creatures are dead.
You and me both. This cave will be a nasty place for a long time.
*I pull myself out of the hole and away from the hole, waiting for you* Too bad there is nothing we could do about cleaning it up and all that.
Well, it'll mostly decay. The cave is mostly rock I suppose some will seep through. We'll keep an eye on the vegetation and animals around here and see if there's any sign. I would expect most of it to dry over time. The rock may melt a bit in the places where the acid is strongest.* Mike looks around and then pushes a good sized boulder over the opening blocking it hopefully preventing anything from accidentally falling through. *
Lets get out of here. We need to discard these boots...want to walk barefoot through the grass back to the ship?
*I sit down and take off my boots, making a face* My favorite boots....ruined. *I pout as I stand up*
We can have some copied off for you...or go a few light years to another star system so you can go shopping??? I had to throw out my knife that I used to cut the heads off those two creatures...and it's sheath. The blade corroded and the sheath was almost eaten through. * Mike slices through the laces of his boots and pulls them off, thinks about it a second and adds his socks. He rolls the boulder aside slightly.*
Here hand me your shoes and I'll pitch both pairs down into the cave.
*I close my eyes and hand them to you* I can't watch! * I turn away pretending to cry, overdramatizing it.*
* She hears the boulder crunch back into place and then feels his arms around her as he spins her into a long kiss*Okay, okay I get it new shoes...how many pairs to make up for that lost pair?
I think maybe six or eight would be okay with me. * I giggled and snuggle close to you* Come on lover. Lets get back to the ship and see what we can find in the other ship's memories.
I'd suggest we find one of the unconnected computers we have back at home. I don't like the idea of plugging this into a ship..not yet at least. We don't know what it is.
Yes that sounds safer. Let' get going. I'm curious now but I still wish that we could have saved the ship. *I head back to our ship, limping a little still.* Do you think the aliens who were trying to destroy our friends will find them? Or do you think that they will be safe? *I climb in and lay on the bed*
* Mike launches the ship, sets the auto pilot and joins her.*I'm hoping that our little find my tell us more about that...and be the thing that caused the trouble in the first place.
*I lay back on the bed and smile up at you*
* They have a few hours alone as Mike set the pilot to take a little longer than necessary. *
*After some fun, I snuggle in your arms and stare up at the ceiling of the ship* I still can't believe that we found a ship stuck in the planet. I guess we'll never get away from all the excitement.
No, remember there's another out there slowly headed this way...I guess we need to check into that after we find what's on this...whatever it is.
I thought that his father was the ship slowly coming towards our planet....though his ship didn't look like the was any issues with it so then maybe it isn't the ship that seems to be having issues. I wonder how close the the other ship is now? It's exciting and scary at the same time.
We'll be back home soon and we can check the instruments in the main ship. If the new comer has kept to the speed and direction it was traveling it should be about three days out still. We'll just need to make sure it's not going to crash. The computers say it should fall into orbit, but we'll need to make sure.
What if it is disabled? Then there is a bigger chance of it crashing isn't there? Or can we use the ship's beam to slow it down and land it?
Well, I figured once it got here we'd take the fighter or the shuttle up and board it in case there was a crew still there. Probably should have already done it but we've been a little busy...
Well then I say we hurry up, get back, load the memory from this ship, then head on up.
Okay...well, I can speed this up. We're close now, I just wanted to give us some alone time...so to speak.* Mike takes the controls and within 15 minutes they arrive back and have docked the fighter in the other ship. *
*I slip off the bed and kisses your cheek* Once all of this settles down we can have more alone time. *I head for the control room to check in the approaching ship* Go get that plugged in while I check on our uninvited guest.
