End of the world
*The next morning, I wake up early and climb down to take a quick dip. I slip out of my clothes and into the water.* Brrr... Little cold but refreshing. *I whisper as I swim under the waterfall*
* Mike wakes and finds Lacy gone. Thinking she may have decided to swim early he takes a pot with coffee and tea and heads out for the river. *
*I continue to swim, enjoying the water as it flows around me. I dive under and swim for a bit underneath the surface, the morning light dancing above me*
* After a while she hears some one shouting from the bank *Didn't you ever hear that you're always supposed to swim with a friend!!?
* Mike has a fire going with an enameled coffee pot of hot water on it. The individual coffee packs and the tea bags off to one side*
*I swim up to the surface and smile when I see you* Yes I've heard that but I'm ok on my own to you know. *I giggle and swim to the bank and slowly rise up out of water, letting it roll off my body as I stand in front of you* What ya got there, lover?
Hummmm..... * Scene fades *
* Later they sit together bundled together on the river bank. As the day warms they swim some more and spend the day just doing couple things. going back to eat and then spending more time simple in play. All too soon the day is ending. *
*I sigh as I look up at the darkening sky* The day is coming to an end already. I was hoping that we could have a long slow day of fun but that never seems to happen, does it?
I don't think fun and slow day can go together. Still we can do this again. We're actually pretty spoiled if you think about it. How many people have a place like this.
Not many for sure. But just once I wish we could have fun and have a long day too. *I smile and give you a quick kiss before I disappear into the ship* What do you want to eat tonight?
You know me...I'll always take a slab of beef. I can be very predictable. However if you'd like to have something different I'm fairly flexible.
*I come back out with two very large naked potatoes filled with bacon bite, sour cream, chives, and melted butter.* How about this?
Cool...well their not cool, they're hot but the potatoes are cool...well, no the potatoes are hot, but....Oh never mind, they look good.
* Mike grins*
*I laugh and hand you a plate with the potato on it then sit down and begin to eat under the growing dark sky.* I get what you meant, Mike. Enjoy your potato.
...cool.... * He grins again*Do we have any Coke?
*I look thoughtful then nod* I think there is some in the cooler next to the ship's door. If you grab one, grab me one too, please.
okay...* Mike returns with the drinks *
So, time to head back tomorrow, or stretch it out another day?
Thanks sweety. *I take the can from you and sigh* We better go back. We still need to figure out where and when that creature came to our planet.
Yeah.... Well, we can spend another night here anyway.
Are you sure? Can that take back seat for one more day?
Well, I can't guarantee there won't be an emergency. On the other hand I don't see how another night will be sure to be bad. We'll stay here tonight and leave in the morning.
I say we get to the bottom of the creature then come back and stay for a whole week!
Okay...* Mike kisses her and begins preparation for take off *
*I smile at you and slip into bed after packing up the ship, yawning*
* The launch goes well and the return flight is uneventful. They check the animals and catchup on things around then begin to program the orbiting sensors and consult the computer for any alerts. *[night]
*I sit in front of the controls, skimming our logs of creatures to see if I cold place the one we had seen but with no luck* Guess we should add his ugly mug to our list of weird and dangerous creatures book, don't you?(Night)
Hummm....yeah. Maybe the computer can match up the species with something close...You remember that blip we saw approaching as we were on our way out? It's a ship. It seems to be headed this way slowly.... Looks like it may be drifting. I'm scanning for power. It's a little far out but it looks like life support is all they have.
Can't tell what kind of ship it is...I'll try to boost the sensors.
I've got nothing on where the creature may have come from either...still searching for downed ships or anything.
I've tried all kind of combos but nothing is showing up. Must be a very new species. What should we call it? UglyRaticus? *I giggle a little at the name* Maybe we should fly out to the ship before it gets to our planet.
I'd rather stay down for a bit...it's a few days out yet. We'll be able to see what it is soon. I can see now what kind of power signature it has...hummm. No thrust at all...It's a Firefly. That's an older model not many of them around.
Maybe it's what's his face just floating around. *I lean over your shoulder, looking at the readings, my hair gently touching your cheek and neck*
* Mike smiles and kisses her cheek*I don't know...not responding to our call. Well, want to bring them in or.....
* Mike hesitates and responds to an alarm on the board. *
Well, look at that. About ten miles from that cave where we found the creature. There's something huge buried up, looks like it might be a downed ship. Maybe an old one.
*I disappear then reappear with a bag full of climbing gear, disappear then reappear with a bag full of digging items, disappear, then reappear with our bags of clothes and a basket full of food* Ready to go? *I smile at you*
Yeah...but lets get a good night's sleep first. And we better arm up for this one. If that thing came from a downed ship who knows what else might be on it.
*I slip out another bag full of weapons* Done! But yes I think a good night sleep first is a good thing.
Right. I'll want to take more than a single gun this time...* They turn in a little nervous about what they might find and also the ship slowly approaching. The night passed quickly..too quickly. *
*I wake up early and quickly shower an dress before you are even up. I take the bags to our ship, stash everything inside and get the ship ready to go. Once I am done, I begins to pace, unable to even think about eating breakfast*
* Mike heads out to the shuttle, his dress more like what he used to wear. He's now carrying a couple of large caliber handguns with a dangerous game rifle slung over his shoulder. Several knives are in evidence.He stores his stuff in the shuttle, puts his hands on his hips, leans against the shuttle and looks at Lacy.*
Well breakfast is waiting...you plan to fly for an entire day and then start climbing around with no nourishment?
*I look at you, no longer pacing* Sorry, Mike...I am too worried about what we might find to eat.
You need to eat to deal with it.... okay wait here a few minutes and we'll leave.* Mike heads back into the ship...is gone several minutes and then comes back with a disposal container (read paper bag) and two quart sized thermal cups.*
Okay here are a dozen biscuits with breaded chicken breasts and cold drinks. Ones Coke the other Dr. Pepper. We can eat on the way. Let's go.
*I smile and kiss your cheek before I get on the ship, taking the Dr. Pepper with me. I strap in and take a sip* Thanks Mike for being so understanding. Let's go!
* The flight is uneventful but does as predicted take till the sun is almost due to come up where we are going. We had napped for a few hours with the shuttle on auto pilot so hopefully we wouldn't tire out at a "bad time". We land about ten miles beyond the cave complex we are aware of in a depression surrounded by trees. Upon checking it now we can tell it's possibly an old crash sight and a tunnel is located at it's bottom, masked by foliage thicker than elsewhere in the depression. *
It doesn't look like it was a big ship at least. *I look at you and smile half heartily* Where should we land?
* They set down in the depression not far from the tunnel. Mike and Lacy disembark. *What do you think? Start with the tunnel?
*I nod* Let's do it. *I smile and pull out our packs and flashlights* I hope we get to the bottom of this so the we can worry about the other ship.
Yeah. I left it being tracked in. We may have to catch it if it keeps falling toward the planet. I left a couple of robot ships that'll keep it in orbit if we're not back.
Good but I hope if there is anyone on board that are okay and aren't injured or dead. *I look worried as I turn my flashlight on and head for the tunnel, a knife in my other hand*
* Before long it becomes obvious that the tunnel is artificial. After an hour of walking gradually down hill we find an open space where the path widens out. The spot is filled with discarded bones of many different types of animals. *
So I guess this is where the beast lived. Look at all of those poor animal bones....I can tell some are the bats. But what if there is more of those things? What if it had a family?
What if it's not all there is... look the tunnel continues down from here.* Out the other side of the space a wide dark path continues downward.
*I shine my light farther down the tunnel, twirling my knife* Well then lets get going and see where it leads. *I start down the tunnel, nearly slipping* Whoa! This is getting a bit steeper.
