End of the world
*I run towards you and grab you arm, pulling you away as it's tongue shoots out like a frogs and grabs the revolver. It drags it into its mouth, chews on it, the spits it out in a glob of hissing goo* oh gross! I think I'm going to be sick..
I liked that gun... * Mike draws a large knife in each hand and leaps upward wrapping an arm around the creatures neck, pulling himself onto it's back between it's wings and plunges his knives into either side of the things neck. *
*The creature screamed in pain as its yellowish green blood oozes up onto the knives and begins to eat away the metal* Mike, get off of it. It's blood and spit is like acid. * I watch in horror as the knives dissolve more in your hands and the gun disappears completely*
* Mike lets go the knife hilts draws another long thin blade leans back taking the knife in both hands and drives it through the creatures skull all the way to the hilt. The thing screams, spasms and drops toward the hole. Mike leaps from it grabbing for the stone bridge...*
*I scream out, running forward and holding out my hands towards you. The creature falls past me half dead. It's tail whips around my legs, causing me to fall backwards with a yelp. I turn and grab for anything as the creature drags me over the edge of the hole* Mike!
Crap!* Mike turns his grab into a dive. Lacy spreading her arms and legs, Mike diving he comes to her legs, snatches her and drags her to him....at the same time he grabs for the rocks along the side of the hole. Grabbing and holding their speed and weight pulls them on his grip only slowing them...
Little by little they slow until they are only making maybe 50 miles an hour when Mike strikes the carcass of the dead creature with Lacy atop him *
UMMMPH!
* Mike lays there a few seconds his mouth working like a beached fish as he tries to re-inflate his lungs. Finally he manages a deep breath, then another. *
You alright? He kisses her, you know you don't have to be so dramatic I'm always happy to hold you.
* Fumbling his which hangs from the lanyard on his belt...under his back, another bruise. He looks at Lacy. *
*I lay on top of you, shaken from the fall. I lay my head against your shoulder and let out a scared whimper. My eyes are drawn to the creature and quickly pull you and myself off of it as its blood begins to pool more, rocks and other things on the ground hissing as it touched its blood* Mike...the blood...we need to get out of here. *I limp a little, my ankle visibly bruised from the creature's tail*
Hang on...* Mike picks her up and jumps away from the spreading blood. The only light in the subterranean blackness comes from their hand-lights. When clear of the melting rocks Mike sets her on a boulder which looks to be about right for a chair...for a rock anyway.*
Well, I wonder where that thing came from. I[m pretty sure that thing didn't originate here. That acid blood is more like those aliens Sigourney Weaver keeps tripping over. As far as I know none of them has been seen anywhere near here. Wish I'd brought some glass containers so we could take samples back.
*I watch the blood as it dripped into a crack* The blood...won't it harm the planet? We have to do something to stop the blood from spreading.
It should dilute before it hurts the world...see.* Mike points to a puddle that's stopped spreading and getting deeper. The liquid rock is getting thicker and thicker.*
The liquid rock is diluting the acid and the more rock it dissolves the less powerful it is. This will be a dangerous spot for a while but the water and rock will dilute it over time. I'd hate to think we're going to find a large population of these things but the blood is just some spilled acid, powerful acid but happily this is mostly rock and lower bat guano.
Now we get to try and figure out where it came from.
Oh thank goodness. I thought we would have had to leave our beautiful planet behind because of this stupid creature. *I snuggle closer to you as the damp cold air hits us* We do have to figure out about the creature but we also need to get out of here...and me without my wings... *I do my best not to look at you sadly* we'll have to go your least favorite way...by bat.
Well, I can climb it...with you on my back. If we hadn't been falling so fast I could probably have caught us, but like I said, we were moving too fast. * Mike looks at his bloody palms * Rocks can be a little rough.How do you want to go...I let the bats carry me if you want, but Like I said. I can climb us out.
*I gently touch your wrist to take a look at your palms* Not with those palms you're not, sir! We don't need them to get worse, babe. *I wrap my shirt and gently wrap your hands* We'll let the bats take us.
* Mike sighs * Right, flying. Okay, call your friends.*
*I giggle and shook my head and kiss your cheek as two giant bats flies down the hole towards us. I move away from you and wave a little as the bat easily snatches me up and fly upwards. The second grabs you and flies upwards, squeaking at you, almost laughing at your discomfort look on your face*
* Once on top Mike shakes his head.*Okay, why was I a traveling adventurer for so long again?
*I hug you close* You liked flying when it was me flying you.
That's like I like carrying you because it's you I'm carrying. Get the idea? I think it's time we hiked back to the shuttle and had lunch.
* Mike looks at the acid holes in his clothes.*
And maybe change my clothes and check for acid burns. You know, I really liked that revolver...and those knives.
Blasted monster.
*I laugh* Don't worry you have more at the ship. *I begin to limp back towards the front if the cave*
* Mike puts an arm around her and walks beside her*I know...but I liked those. They were made on Earth... I only have a dozen or so of those Montana toothpicks and maybe 7 or 8 of the big Bowies.
Stupid monster.
* Mike grins at her *
*I look up at you and laugh* Too bad we couldn't make him a pet. He would have been fun to play fetch with...for a while. I'm starving and sore and I need a hot bath. Maybe we can go to the hot springs after lunch.
Cool with me...get it, cool? * They arrive at the shuttle and they pull out the food and cold drinks. *
*I sit down above the waterfall, smiling as I pat the area next to me on the lush grass*
Thanks for saving me a seat. I always like sitting next to you.
I wouldn't have anyone else sitting by me, lover. *I pull out a bag of chips and handed it to you with some of the biscuits that I had made that morning. I pull out my own bag of chips and biscuits and begin to eat* yumm
So...lets hope that the rest of our trip is less, strenuous. Wanna go by the hot mud and then go to the hot springs. The hot mud works wonders on sore body parts that have just fallen down a hole in a cave. Then we can let the spring wash us up.
I like that idea...we haven't done that in so long I have forgotten all about the mud baths we use to take. We never did it in the springs on our side. How come?
* Mike shrugs * It's a natural place and we just left it alone. Still, handy to be close by after getting all banged up.
* They spend the afternoon sitting in the hot mud pits and then wander over to the hot springs talking and laughing. Then they spend a couple more hours soaking in the springs. By the time the sun starts to go down they feel better and are a bit drowsy. They make their way back to the shuttle to sleep. *
What a nice day minus the acid creature we ran into in the caves. But other than that...it was quite relaxing. I definitely enjoyed it. How about you?
Yeah...aside from losing my gun and my knives...Stupid creature.
*I laugh as I enter the shuttle* Babe you need to let that go. Hey look the bats brought you a present. They left it on your bed. *Lying on your bed was a big bulky poorly wrapped present*
Don't tell me Bats have a factory....
*I shake my head* No...but they can reconstruct things apparently. Open it and see what they made you.
* Mike opens the package*
*Sitting inside were the two knives and the gun that he had lost in the fight along with two new knives constructed not out of metal but crystal from the cave itself.*
How'd they do that???? The gun was melted, the knife blades dissolved. Huh...I'll have to send them a big box of flies or something.
Like I said they can reconstruct things apparently. I guess they saw your facials when you complained *I giggled* and reconstructed your gun and knives. Looks like they gave you some new ones too.
Humm...Just hope they got the gun's calibration right. * Mike grins*Well, anyway we need to try and find out what that thing was. Tomorrow before we leave I'll take a glass vial back to the cave and get a sample to analyze.
* Mike kisses her and wraps his arm around her. *
Having fun on our trip?
Yes I'm having a great time. Like I said except for the creature everything today was perfect. And I'm glad to see that there are babies and new animals on this side of the planet. Everything is so nice over here and I really hope there aren't any more creatures like that one hiding somewhere or that one didn't have babies. *I shudder at the thought of the babies*
I didn't want to go on about it. I doubt there's young, but we'll keep a watch. I'll let the canines and cats keep me apprised you can let me know if you hear from any of the other animals. I'm more worried about where it came from and how it got here. That creature isn't native and I know it's not one I transplanted here...so how did it get here?
The falling star...what if it some how came down with a falling meteor? The other one we encounter was alien...what if one fell without us knowing it and that thing came down on it or in it.
I suppose.... But how would a creature survive not only in space but through a reentry? * Mike looks thoughtful *
Unless maybe there's a ship down somewhere, but we'd have been notified about something that big by the sensors...
Maybe the creature was already here...long before you found this place. Maybe there is a ship unground somewhere.
Maybe. The thing would have had to have been in suspension till recently or the bats would have known about it before. When we get back I'll see about using the ship to put a satellite in orbit that can search for any old wrecks, long downed or buried ships.We'll need to to stay in touch with the animals we know.
*I nod* Maybe we should come back on this side in a week, do some cave exploring ourselves. Who knows what we will find down there.
We'll need better equipment, and we'd better use a probe first. We're all that's here, no back up. We can also get the probe to map the caves for us. We'll need to modify one so it can move freely underground of course.Well, we can worry about that when we get back. While we're over here lets just spend a day or so wandering around some of the woods and sitting by a camp fire before we head back and start worrying again.
I like that plan...no more worrying for us. It'll make us gray before our time. And I really don't want to grow gray just yet. *I snuggle into your arms*
But like everything else it will look good on you.
*I giggle and shake my head* I don't want to find until its time. It's getting late. We better get some rest before another fun long day tomorrow.
