I read Second Grave on the Left by Darynda Jones. The main character is Charley (short for Charlotte) Davidson and she is a strong female character. She is not only a private investigator, but also the Grim Reaper. She does not back down from a fight and is able to hold her own. She is surrounded my males in her life (mostly officers) who look at her like she's crazy, but she is able to shrug it off and do her job. I think she is a very strong female lead.
