Eva-Marie Nevarez (evamarie3578) I'm reading Enemies a Love Stor-2 for one of my tasks and I'm only about 50 or so pages in but I LOVE it! I would have never looked at this book had I not needed an author who won in 1978. This is the second or third book like this for me since I've started these challenges.
Has anyone read this or anything else by Isaac Bashevis Singer?

message 3555: by El (new)

El ♡ Eva ♡ wrote: "I'm reading Enemies a Love Stor-2 for one of my tasks and I'm only about 50 or so pag..."

Eva, I'm a huge fan of Singer's! In fact I plan to read Shadows on the Hudson for the same task. Shosha A Novel and The Slave are also good, but so far Enemies A Love Story was probably my favorite.

message 3556: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 1489 comments Yeah! Another 25-pointer - and I liked both my choices:

Karen's Task: read a book that starts with 'G' and a book which starts with 'R'
I chose 'Great Expectations' by Charles Dickens and 'Redwall' by Brian Jacques

I surprised myself by liking Great Expectations a lot more than I expected to - which sounds like I was deliberately punishing myself by choosing it to begin with; but it's one of those books that I always intended to read 'someday', and this challenge helped me decide that someday was now. It definitely had its ups and downs in holding my interest, and had I been reading a physical copy, I'm sure I would have put it down more often.

I absolutely loved Redwall, as much I think for the narration as for the story itself. The story was cute and captivating and would do wonderfully as an animated movie (or has it already been done?), and I listened to an audiobook version narrated by the author and enacted by a full cast of characters, much as in the old days of radio.

25 POINTS
Karen's Task: G= Great Expectations by Charles Dickens completed 4.4.09 R= Redwall by Brian Jacques completed 3.29.09

25 points added to previous 235 points makes new total as of 4.4.09 = 260 points

Louise | 49 comments I've earned another 15 pts for task 9 - Read a book with a colour in the title AND eat a meal that includes at least 2 foods that are that colour.

I read Eve Green by Susan Fletcher and had a vegetarian pizza (with green peppers) and a salad (including lettuce and cucumber) for dinner. (",)

I'm now on 190 pts.

Rory M. COMPLETE 10 POINT TASK

#9 Read a book from the TNBBC Top Books list: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger (#31 on the list – my birth year is 1973). I listened to this one on CD & it took well over 2 weeks - I completed it yesterday. FOUR STARS

One of the most unique love stories ever. I liked the idea that time travel is a chromosone disorder - intriguing. I did not like the ending - very abrupt (especially after investing weeks to this one it left me dissatisfied).

Eva, it has been so many years since I read a novel by him I no longer recall the title nor the story. I only recall that I felt I had read something special and that I should keep my eye out for something else. I think that's about the time real life was thrust upon me and reading, unfortunately, took a back seat. Thank you for reminding me I should have him on my Wish List.

6. JON’S TASK - H.M. Queen Elizabeth II is 83 on April 21st, read a Non-Fiction book of at least 400 pages relating in some way to the British Monarchy past or present. Write a short Goodreads review and post a copy on the Spring challenge thread.
Elizabeth and Mary

Wow! You can't make this stuff up! Very interesting piece of history. Before reading this I didn't know much about Mary, Queen of Scots - what a strange woman!

I loved the story but feel the book was a bit too long and very repetitive in parts.

I was hoping it might help someone out for that task. I was wondering how many more people that needed it would be born in 1978 though so I'll glad you saw the post. Definitely try it out. I hope it isn't too hard to find- I read a review on here that it's apparently difficult to find. I mooched it on BM though after searching the link here for authors. I found another one or two from him at the same time actually so they don't seem all that hard to find but maybe I got lucky.
I hope you like it if you do read it and I'd be interested in hearing what you think!

Last challenge I found and read The Weight of All Things A Novel by Sandra Benitez and LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it. I only picked it up because I needed a book about a country that started with E and this was set in war torn El Salvador. Amazing book. That one, like this, I'd have never taken a glance at if I hadn't been searching for a reason.

It is fun Michele! You know you can count any books you've read since March 1st right? And the total points that can be earned is 575 even though it looks like 525 right now. The person who has the highest amount of points at the halfway point makes a 50 point task. :)

Terri (terrisa-uk) Yay! Finished the rhyming task for 15 points - I read Out of Breath by Julie Myerson and Death Message by Mark Billingham. I quite liked the first book, though it was a little strange, but didn't like Death Message at all for some reason!

Kristen Harvey Finished listening to Wright 3 - a fun kid's mystery. Also read The Sword Thief and read this interview of Peter Lerangis: Lerangis Interview

I am really enjoying reading all the books in the 39 Clues series. They're short and full of intrigue, puzzles, and adventure.

Donna Jo Atwood | 207 comments 5.9 Chicks in chain Mail. Collection of short stories, most very tongue in cheek.

10.5 Mairelon the Magician by Patricia C. Wrede--Actually this was a reread for me. I was planning to read it anyway, as I'd just gotten it back from my sister. And then I discovered the sequel The Magician's Ward and read it too. Both books are really fast to read.

25.2 Samuel Pepys Diary.(selections from it--thank heavens.) Parts of this were very interesting, but I spent so much time trying to figure out the grammar and puncuation that I kept losing track of what he was talking about.

Oooh! I am a latecomer but I still want to participate. I'm going to read mostly YA books because I am a librarian who works with teens and could use more YA in my repertoire!

Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments I finished Angela's task yesterday (two books from the person who posted below your first spring challenge post).

From Lisa CO's list - I read Dead Until Dark & Nights in Rodanthe. I already had Nights on my list - another great Nicholas Sparks books - LOVED IT, sad but great. Dead I added to my to read list - it was OK I was really into the whole vampire vibe when I was younger but I don't know I wasn't like so crazy about this book that I have to go out and read the rest of the series right away - I will eventually because I can't start a series and not finish it but it's not going to be a top priority.
