Cynthia (pandoraphoebesmom) | 1826 comments To clarify - If you are reading a book ABOUT a diarist he or she should have lived primarily during the 1800s...but if you are reading a diary or non-fiction BY that person it has to have been written during the 1800s.

Persuasion is my favorite... :)

And to make this post a little more relevant, I'm currently reading:

*Stargirl (10-pt task #6) - audiobook in my car
*Stealing Heaven (10-pt task #4) - book I'm carrying around in my purse to read randomly and at home
*Severance Package (25-pt task #5) - book I'm reading at the gym
*Leaves From My Journal (25-pt task #2) - book I'm reading on my BlackBerry, as it was never copyrighted, and the whole thing has been transcribed
*Winnie-the-Pooh (25-pt task #4) - bedtime stories I'm reading to myself... ;)

Ashley (affie) | 371 comments Angela, what did you think about Identical by Hopkins? I read it around New Years. It was the first book I read by Hopkins, but I thought the poems within a poem everytime she switched between the two girls was amazing, and surprisingly relevant. The story was interesting, and sad I thought, but she is a good writer...

Jamie For Jon's task, would it be okay to read multiple books that add up to 400 pages? My daughter (who's still in middle school) is having a hard time finding something appropriate to read for this task, as I'm sure you could imagine! If this is unacceptable, do you know of a book that would be appropriate for a young person?

I really like how my list worked out, too. I was a bit worried at the beginning, but I've worked in a bunch of books I've been wanting/needing to read (a LOT of YA stuff), so that's nice. I was going to post my updated list, but again with the stick drive being at home...

I'd ask Jon and Cynthia on that one, since your daughter is quite young. Are there biographies on Prince William and Prince Harry?? ;) They're cute... There are also little biographies on Princess Diana that are only like 160 pages. So if they okay the multiple book thing, there are some nice shorter options.

William: HRH Prince William of Wales
Prince Harry: The Biography
Diana, Princess of Wales: A Biography
etc.

message 990: by El (new)

El Carol, how about In the Heart of the Sea The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex?

Or The Loss of the Ship Essex, Sunk by a Whale - the Ship Essex is what Melville based Moby Dick on, so there are several books out there about that story. This particular one is a first-hand account of what happened.

If that's not your thing you could probably read Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea or Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea. I didn't look closely enough at the task to remember now if it's supposed to be non-fiction or fiction, or if it even matters.

I think I´ll read the first one on the task about reading a book with too many words lol
Maybe The Old Man and the Sea it´s not acceptable cause are less them 100 pages, too bad cause I own the book lol
Maybe I´ll stick with Verne, them.
