Oh Soph, you'll LOVE her books! You have to get The Tutor's Daughter

I own the Girl and the Gatehouse and also The Silent Governess so far. :) I look forward to reading these and then her others! Do you recommend Gatehouse over Governess first?

message 154: by Caity, that crazy moderator (new)

Caity | 4434 comments Mod
well my mom says Gatehouse was really good but kind of depressing, and all my sisters (and mom ;)) LOVED Governess. SO Gatehouse may be a good one in order to finish happy with the Governess, OR you may want to read Governess in order to get a really good taste for the author.....but their both good. :) lol either one. ^_^

message 155: by Beth (last edited Feb 16, 2013 06:32AM) (new)

Beth (bbulow) I read Governess first...but I think I enjoyed Gatehouse more :) I liked the main character in Gatehouse better. I don't feel like it was all that depressing. There were a couple of sad parts, but they added realism to the story.

Oh food for thought there... Thanks! I am sure I will want to read her others so maybe I should start with the Governess to get a feel for the author.

Oh!! Now I don't know again!!! Which first which first....

message 158: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) Well, whenever possible, I try to read the one published first, which in your case would be Governess :) That makes it easy to pick. You really can't go wrong with either one. I think you'll like them both.

it was SO interesting to read this book because so many books about Boleyn talk about "how awful she was"! she did have some issues- but this book really just did well at showing her for the human that she is and it made me look at her a bit differently. one of my favorite Tudor reads. <3

message 173: by Beth (new)

Beth (bbulow) Alice, I agree! It was a refreshing take on Anne that not most writer have taken.

message 174: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (chibilee02) Thank you Alice. Lol funny you say that because I just finished Bring Up the Bodies and it's pretty obvious what everyone thinks of her in the book.

But I'm also looking for books with different perspective on that whole time period. So I'll be looking to pick up that book. Thanks for the thumbs up Alice and Beth. ^_^

message 175: by Kim-Lost-In-A-Book (last edited Feb 21, 2013 01:18PM) (new)

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book lol well yeah but it's easy for the authors to portray her as such a wicked woman, King Henry VIII accused her of being a witch. It's easy to take that and run with it.

I'd like to see this other book too - may have to check it out.
