A Goodreads user asked:

I read a review which said there were many pages of detailed descriptions of physical, psychological and sexual abuse that there should have has trigger warnings. Is that true? How is that entertaining to read?

Missy Hovland Major yikes to a lot of these comments. This person just wants to know about the content. Not your opinion of the book or whether or not you consider a person’s desire to avoid re-traumatization to be valid.
In answer to your question, yes. There are descriptions of a wide variety of abusive behaviors in this book, and it certainly could be triggering for some.
Emily Jurlina It wasn't entertaining to read at all. I gave this book two stars. Pages and pages of spouse rape just made me sad and uncomfortable and were also triggering to me personally. I wish I had read up more on the book's content before I started reading.
Glynis I think it is completely unnecessary to have this, read a lot worse. Just a good psychological thriller. It certainly isn’t Anne of Green Gables.
Lauren Cornblatt I think the fact that is described as a psychological thriller should give the reader that “hint.”
Terry Lynn Bender I couldn't put this book down except when fell asleep reading it at 3:00 a.m. and conked myself on the forehead with my new Kindle Oasis. I gave the book 5 stars which I very seldom do; I think I've only given one other book the maximum number of stars over the past five years. Graphic abuse descriptions can ruin a good book for me but this author was able to tell this fascinating story and get her points across without causing me to lose sleep . The author has told an excellent story written from the perspectives of two different characters. I'm currently bedridden as I recover from a torn meniscus and I'd love to find another book this good to make time pass faster.
Grumpybookworm I'm way late on this one but YES, this book was unenjoyable to me for that reason. Not just because there *was* marital rape, emotional abuse, emotional abuse of a child, gaslighting, etc. That would have been enough, but the author(s) took it to an insane and almost unbelievable level. It was so dramatized that it was not believable. Which angered me, because that means they sensationalized such a terrible thing for "entertainment value." Which is sh*tty in my opinion. So yeah....not a good reaction to this book and I'll not be reading anything else by these authors.
Courtenay Cranford I think narcissistic/psychological abuse is a topic that is often pushed under the table and or ignored in our society. The book does a great job of shedding light on this type of abuse in an entertaining way. It did not detract from my enjoyment in the least. In fact, my thanks to the author for including it in the plot line.
Ashley Toutant There are definitely some portions that can be a trigger. People will react in different ways. It's not the book in its entirety, but it is a decent chunk. It's also a big part of the story as well. It helps you understand why everything is going on.
Cristhiane The entertaining part was what the protagonist did about it. At least for me, it was.
Leanne Yes, there is in the book and it definitely wasn't entertaining to read. I think I remember the review you mentioned and I think it's a really good idea to have this in reviews and possibly somewhere on the back cover or as a front note. I don't think there is anything in the description to indicate that there is abuse in the book until you get to it. Personally, I skimmed over those parts. It was a very dark book generally and I think the only hint is when reading about the authors who mentioned that through their own reading they like to write dark material.
Janice Yes, it should come with trigger warnings. The abuse was almost gratuitous.
cluedupreader A psychological thriller "sometimes called domestic noir or domestic suspense" often contains abuse, and entertains by its very definition — it packs a punch. #LiterarySubgenres101

Robert Blumenthal Section 2 could have been a bit more subtle and less lurid for my taste. However, most of it is free of intense abuse.
Becky Baylor Yes. Personally I struggled to get through those parts of the book, and I would certainly give a content warning to anyone I recommended the book to.
Sydney Douglas There should have been trigger warnings! You are incredibly blessed if you have no idea why. Someone asked about the turtles, but IYKYK. The book was still good, but I would not have chosen it had I known.
