message 251: by Mike (new)

Mike Storzieri I bookmark but do not highlight.

message 252: by Craig (new)

Craig Cecil I read mostly non-fiction on my Kindle and am a heavy highlighter. Once a month or so, I export my highlight file from the Kindle to my PC, extract each book's highlights, and paste them into a centralized TiddlyWiki file--thus giving me one place I can search, print and review all of my "Cliff's Notes" for each book. This single TiddlyWiki file can also be loaded onto my iPod Touch for maximum travel flexibility.

message 253: by Eduardo (new)

Eduardo Cruz For technical books mostly.

message 254: by Patsy (new)

Patsy I always forget about highlighting until after I have finished reading the book and wished I could go back to a certain area. Not really sure how to highlight anyway lol.

message 255: by Kanaya (new)

Kanaya I highlight the sentences/parts that I like. And the ones that are super funny :P

message 256: by Gia (new)

Gia MarajaLove I have a nook, but it doesn't have the option to highlight. Not that I would use it if it did.

message 257: by yomama (new)

yomama I highlight my neighbors cats tails while they're sleeping. Because fuck you, that's why. I do what I want

message 258: by Kelly (new)

Kelly i love to highlight and bookmark pages that way i can always find them with no trouble.

Lizzeth "Too many books so little time" Jeremy wrote: "E-Readers are the latest yuppie fad. No thanks."

Are you kidding? E-readers are amazing for people who read a lot. The ebooks are way cheaper, and you don´t have to carry a heavy book everywhere. Instead you can have hundreds of books of your tbr list in your bag.

Lizzeth "Too many books so little time" Mike wrote: "I don't deface books."

That´s just dumb. Highlighting can give a book character. Besides they´re talking about ebooks not paperbacks.

message 261: by Gizelle (new)

Gizelle I don't vandalize precious books.

message 262: by Keli (new)

Keli Never highlighted before in my relaxation reading but find that I do now with my Kindle or Nook. I like being able to connect online with other readers and discuss certain parts of a book.

message 263: by Kim (new)

Kim I use the highlight feature for quoting or for discussion

message 264: by Natalie Joy (new)

Natalie Joy I read for fun, so i highlight things that are interesting or funny that I read in my books. Then I can go to my Clippings and look at them again.

message 265: by L.D. (new)

L.D. It depends on the book, but for the most part I don't highlight. Sometimes, if I am reading something for school, I'll write it on the side instead of on the book so I don't have to make it look messy, haha.

message 266: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte while some of my highlights are great sayings or thoughts on life most of mine are things I found silly because I have the sense of humor of a five year old. Older books tend to be written in a style where they don't see the silliness. I once highlighted an entire section from the voyage of the dawn treader because they said poop so many times... yes I know its a boat term.. but I still giggled a lot

message 267: by Tanya (new)

Tanya I highlight if I am studying something, but I really don't do too much of that. My nook is mostly for pleasure reading so I don't highlight. However, I do bookmark certain places so I can reread later.

message 268: by Bailey (new)

Bailey I love quotes so I guess you could say "My Clippings" is my favorite book on my kindle. So of course I love to highlight!

message 269: by Julie G (new)

Julie G I highlight for a number of reasons:

1. In non-fiction, to capture points that I don't want to forget;
2. In fiction, to A. capture quotes I especially loved and/or B. record grammatical or other errors, that may impact my review of the book.

You're Absolutely RIGHT!

message 271: by Barney (new)

Barney Stinson I never thought to highlight. If a quote sticks in my head then I know it's good, if not, I enjoyed reading it and moved on

message 272: by Bronwen (new)

Bronwen Price Yes!

message 273: by Reem (new)

Reem Nichole ~Bookaholic~ wrote: "I highlight good quotes....the one's I want to remember..."

same here

message 274: by El (new)

El If my ereader was supporting highlighting i would highlight my fav lines..

message 275: by Lorena (new)

Lorena I love highlighting! Especially quotes that stand out to me!!

message 276: by Virginia (new)

Virginia I don't own an e-reader, nor will I ever want to. I prefer going the old school way by reading from traditional print books! It's the best way, in my opinion. Anyways, since technically a person who does not own an e-reader can still highlight stuff in a book, I can answer the question. Well, do I? Sometimes, but not with a writing utensil of any sort, so I can keep the book in good condition. If I want to mark something significant for whatever the reason may be, I would use a sticky note.

message 277: by Timothy (new)

Timothy Jenson I like to highlight if it's a non fiction book so I can print it out later

message 278: by Redouane (new)

Redouane i ALWAYS highlight quotes or passages i like. so after reading the book i share them on my GR feed, or sometimes i share them while updating my progress on the book itself.

message 279: by Marianna (new)

Marianna Randazzo Before there were highlighters, there were pencils. I always took little notes in my books, good quotes, new words, profound sentences, etc.
Highlighters make this process cleaner and neater. Highlighting in the Kindle is great and easy to find again.

message 280: by Marianna (new)

Marianna Randazzo As a teacher, I originally forbid children to write in books, now I teach them that if they own it, they can use it as a resource. With the very young students I have them write their notes on post-its and place them on the page. NO SCRIBBLE SCRABBLE! Slight doodling is okay.

message 281: by Galauhkawting (new)

Galauhkawting i don't want to highlight because dirty

message 282: by Venus (new)

Venus Smurf I highlight my scriptures or text books. I don't highlight anything else, because I have too much respect for books to mark them up, even in an ereader. It feels too much like graffiti and annoys me greatly.

I concur.

message 284: by Jason (new)

Jason Cummins I did until my Kindle started freezing up every time I tried to highlight.

message 285: by Bert (new)

Bert Mccollum I don't write in or highlight books- printed or electronic. I sometimes book mark pages and make a note on an index card or sticky note.

message 286: by Larold (new)

Larold Aarence No, I do not highlight - I do, however, use the Sticky Note feature available in Adobe Reader.

message 287: by Ernie (new)

Ernie I do both, using highlight and electronic bookmark because my intuitive way of finding references in a paper edition does not help me find something in an ebook. I am frustrated by ebooks that only show chapter page numbers and percentage of the whole book read rather than cumulative page numbers. If I decide that this is a book I will review, then I use Postit notes.

message 288: by Patricia (new)

Patricia Reding I highlight--a lot! It is especially helpful for putting my thoughts together when I review. Other times it just helps to place the words on file in my mind. . . .

message 289: by Tracey (new)

Tracey I do highlight sometimes, but I also hate reading and seeing "50 people highlighted this" because then I expect the quote to be awesome and meaningful or funny and it's usually not. Let down!

message 290: by Andrea (new)

Andrea melgar I highlight my favorite quotes and as well i write at the borders of how much i liked to read that chapter

message 291: by Abby (new)

Abby Yes. I do highlight and also take notes on my Moleskin notebook.

message 292: by Michie (new)

Michie Scott I do highlight specially beautiful words that inspire me.

message 293: by Carlos (new)

Carlos García Like Job said" "I still believe in the old school way
A book & a pencil ....love to keep it classic & original (^_^) "

message 294: by Bhimrao (new)

Bhimrao If there is a passage that is absolutely ridiculous, or hilarious and I want to show it to someone, I love to highlight on my kindle; then I can share it on facebook............

message 295: by Greta (new)

Greta Beischel I only highlight if its for an assignment. Never for easing reading.

message 296: by Trish (new)

Trish Feehan I can never bring myself to highlight a paper book (old school), but I highlight on Kindle like crazy. It's lovely to be able to scroll through the passages that struck me while I read.

message 297: by Sulma (new)

Sulma I highlight words that are different and look up the full description of it. I also highlight all misspelled words.

message 298: by Lia (new)

Lia sometimes I highlight but most of the time I bookmark.

message 299: by Sophia (last edited Aug 16, 2013 07:15PM) (new)

Sophia Highlighting makes me itch...
Prefer Pencil.

message 300: by Hannah (new)

Hannah never in actual hard/paperbacks but i highlight loads of things in my e-reader. so that i can come back to a passage, or just a favourite quote/piece of dialogue

i abuse the highlighter on my e-reader
