message 101: by Amy (new)

Amy I highlight quotes that I like so that I can re-read them later.

message 102: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Calvin Yes, but I mostly highlight typos, with the intent of notifying someone (not that I ever do) or to mark things that I need to come back to - that prophecy that the old man says as he is dying on page 34... (or the seven people that are going to keep popping up as the story progresses.)

message 103: by Edmund (new)

Edmund Davis-Quinn Rarely .. very rarely. And I definitely turn off the popular highlights, find that takes me out of the book.

message 104: by I'am (new)

I'am YES,WHEN ITS SOMETHING PROFOUND AND I WANT IT TO SHARE TO EVERYONE!:)

message 105: by Ivonne (new)

Ivonne Rovira I teach AP English. In the old days, my Post-It notes were always falling out of my book. They still do (LOL!), but now it doesn't matter! I highlight and take notes in the Kindle version and then stick Post-It notes with the same info in the classroom edition. When the Post-It flutters to the floor or gets lost altogether, I can easily replace it.

message 106: by Janet (new)

Janet I have never taken the time to learn how to highlight using my Kindle. Not cyber savvy!

message 107: by Barbara (new)

Barbara No highlights for me but I do underline with a pen and write notes in the margins. Love to be able to go back to a great passage with ease. Haven't figured out highlighting on kindle and don't think I will. Crazy but books I think will be of great importance to me I will continue to buy in paper.

message 108: by Dario (new)

Dario Sepulveda I highlight and sometimes even note (iBooks on iPad!) certain sentences, paragraphs or quotes I want to revise or simply re-read later on.

message 109: by Crystal (new)

Crystal I don't currently highlight but I just started reading the Bible on my Kindle and I imagine I'll probably start using the highlight feature a lot.

message 110: by Emily (new)

Emily It really depends on the book! I've only started highlighting in some of the nonfiction books I've been reading lately.

message 111: by Fanny (new)

Fanny Fae I not only am the undisputed queen of highlighting, I have my Scrivener program open and am making notes at the same time. I want to be able to find key points fast without having to skim the whole book over again.

message 112: by Fanny (new)

Fanny Fae Jeremy wrote: "E-Readers are the latest yuppie fad. No thanks."

That "fad" as you put it, already has about 20% of the current book sales market and the percentage is growing.

Time and technology marches on, but books, regardless of the form they take will always be in style.

message 113: by Michael (new)

Michael I do occasionally, when i want to remember something important. But I don't highlight very often.

message 114: by Bronwyn (new)

Bronwyn I'm more of a 'make a note on a post-it' type

message 115: by Don (new)

Don I highlight and notate with my e-reader. It's still awkward though. I just like the feel of a book and a pen.

message 116: by Tzn (new)

Tzn Erica wrote: "I highlight only for writing notes and feelings as I am reading the ebook upload it on my progress on goodreads and eventually delete the book out of my ereader"

you are right...I do highlight but they are to be deleted from my e-reader. but then I can't read from a laptop a whole day...sigh

message 117: by Alina (new)

Alina Graves I love the highlight/clippings feature on my Kindle. As someone who loves language and words, when I find a phrase or a paragraph that strikes me, I can save it so easily, even if it is a borrowed book. I like to revisit these quotations for inspiration!

message 118: by Dan (new)

Dan Other: I hi-light the section and post it to my Twitterers. Stanza and Kobo I know have this built-in (in some fashion) but there may be others.....Book clubbing via twitter is a great way to share experiences.

message 119: by Tracy (new)

Tracy Dumas This almost needs a side poll. If I were a betting (wo)man... I would bet that for the most part the people who highlight in (paper) books, highlight in their eReaders and the people who don't, well, don't.

message 120: by Zoolola (new)

Zoolola I use lots of post-it flags!!! And often a notebook on the side, annotations are really important to me.

message 121: by Wade (new)

Wade Newman I love to highlight... and leave notes!!

message 122: by Melinda (new)

Melinda Elizabeth I like to highlight quotes sometimes then I take pictures of the highlighted text to people who might appreciate the quotes :D

message 123: by Charlie (new)

Charlie Byers I don't highlight in ebooks, but I've never used highlighting in physical books, either. I usually just jot down notes (on paper) while I'm reading through a book.

message 124: by Deb (new)

Deb That's one of the great thing about a Kindle. I can highlight passages, quotes and interesting thoughts of the author! However, on my paper books - I do not highlight! Sacrilege!

message 125: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine Yes, excessively. Words I want to look up, great prose...quotes. And, you can go back to all of your highlights whenever you like.

message 126: by Dana (new)

Dana Penserga I highlight so I don't get lost. Period.

message 127: by J (new)

J Philip Highlighting lets me go back to the parts of the text that move me most, and contemplate them again and again.

message 128: by Blaine (new)

Blaine I highlight three things: words I don't know the definition of (so I can go back at the end of a novel and have a study list of vocab); words I do know but never seem to use and want to; and quotes that I find shareable or want to read again (if I remember it by heart or not)

message 129: by Blaine (new)

Blaine Jeremy wrote: "E-Readers are the latest yuppie fad. No thanks."

Doubtful. I love books, love to be surrounded by them. Love the smell of the pages, the visual aids that it has been read (and/or loved). A book is a story containing a story. Still, I love my eReader.

message 130: by Ebster (new)

Ebster Davis I use highlight on Scripture verses I like.

message 131: by Isabel (new)

Isabel Zamora No, I don't highlight. If i were to highlight, it would be disrespectful for my book. and besides i love to read my books more than once so highlighting would be just a distraction.

message 132: by Blaine (new)

Blaine I used to hate beating up a book, but then I began to love it. Every mark and crease is a reminder that it has been read and enjoyed, sometimes loved (depending on how many creases/readthrews). Every coffee stain is a story of a specific time you read it (perhaps place, experience). Highlights and notes just add to the story. This I miss in my eReader...oh well, I still highlight haha.

message 133: by Chris (last edited Aug 30, 2012 05:22PM) (new)

Chris Li (Well I'm not paid to advertise for Ipad)

I mostly read on Ipad (full screen distraction free reading & instant free classics), highlighting is easy and much faster, and you could always locate & review them with ease.
=D

I'm not satisfied with mere reading & I couldn't do it to library books.

message 134: by Judi (new)

Judi G I consider highlighting a fun, educational part of reading the books I choose to download onto my Kindle. As a writer, the authors' techniques become tools for me to track - like verbiage and contrasts, uploaded page errors, layout, etc. I especially highlight in teaching books, ie How To ... When I read Jesus Calling every morning, I highlight and take notes as my devotion and journal time. I don't leave home without my Kindle, and my finger to highlight:)

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

Rarely; but I will if there's some quote or passage thats REALLY good.

message 136: by Ray (last edited Sep 06, 2012 09:57AM) (new)

Ray I also highlight when I'm reading physical books, though usually only for non-fiction.

message 137: by Lawrence (new)

Lawrence Yes, I do highlight for typos, and special scriptures that I read from the Bible.

message 138: by Annie (new)

Annie Noble I highlight WAY more than I do with real books. I love how flexible the e-reader is for reviewing all my highlights all at once, and searching for words parts of quotes that I half remember. My worst problem with highlighting is resisting the urge to highlight all of a very well written book!

message 139: by Fast (new)

Fast Freddy ...I'll ALWAYS highlight if it's a book that I'm garnering info from- I want to be able to go back to it at a later date and get just the pertinent facts. I'll also make margin notes in pencil at times. But any book that I'm reading for pure pleasure remains "unmolested"!

message 140: by Jane (new)

Jane Kim I highlight a lot in general and e-readers are no exception but it's definitely not as satisfying as a ink and paper book so I've decided that I'll only read light, fun novels that I most likely won't want to lend out to friends on the Kindle.

message 141: by Astoria (new)

Astoria My friend has an EReader and she makes me highlight things I like on her books, but I do prefer the real book, and I do highlight every now and then.

message 142: by Dhangelen (new)

Dhangelen Atup I like to highlight! Or I write it down on my favorite green quotation notebook. :))

message 143: by Whitney (new)

Whitney I highlight all the freaking time. I also take notes. I have never once gone back to see what I highlighted or noted - that would probably be an adventure!

message 144: by Fast (new)

Fast Freddy ...I ALWAYS go back and look at my highlights- it helps me separate the wheat from the chaff when re-visiting a book!

message 145: by Penelope (new)

Penelope In books I read for my book club, I highlight passages I want to discuss. In a physical book, I would mark those with a post-it tab or something, so as to keep it clean!

the sound of Autumn I love highlighting, because it makes me able to go back and reflect on parts of the book, remind me why I liked it so much, and helps me with growing as an author myself! Plus, not to mention, I love quoting things! :3

message 147: by Steven (new)

Steven Steele I highlight when important characters/dates/events are introduced in history books so that I can search through my highlights and quickly find stuff.

message 148: by Kay (new)

Kay I don't highlight in the books I read - In my bible I highlight and put dates so that I can go back and look up things that really touched me.

I have just started using an e-reader but I don't really like it as much as a good book that I can smell the ink and feel the paper.

message 149: by Holly (new)

Holly Letson No, I do not.

๑ஜ๑ Jαѕмιиє ๑ஜ๑ When I use my kindle, yes sometimes. But I rarely do. I use my phone a lot more, which doesn't support highlight
