I usually highlight key details in the story that I think might be referred to later on in the story, so I don't have to go all the way back to that book or chapter. I just wish I could put the notes in separate folders so I wouldn't have to scroll through all of my previous ones to get to my most recent one.

i like to highlight good quotes, similes or metaphors. anything that stands out to me.

I, too, highlight all the time. And I almost never go back to it, except for the books I teach. I'm feeling kind of silly right now. :/

I make highlights sometimes. But mostly I just read for entertainment, so it's a rare occasion that I actually do highlight.

I highlight anything that I want to be able to find again. Now & then, my highlights end up used/cited/quoted as part of my Facebook status. I find it really frustrating to read some amazing/insightful quote, then not be able to find it again.

I recently started highlighting all the typos. My Nook will then tell me how many highlights I made. I want to track that info. I'm appalled at how many typos are in my ebooks.

I also get all my textbooks digitally, usually through Nook Study. I highlight like crazy in these books.

Gotta say that the "look up" and "find it" tools on my Nook Tablet make some highlighting unnecessary. Words I don't know can be looked up in a dictionary or online, in wikipedia or UrbanDictionary.com. And if I am struggling to keep track of characters I can use "find it" to see all the early mentions of the character, easy!

Lastly, all my highlighting and notes are a record of my lively interaction with my books. The meaning only comes from the interaction so highlighting and notetaking are how I make the book contents mine.

I have just started using my Kindle for information books, so I may have to change my practice. I do like to write and underline when I am reading for information!

i'm a mad highlighter

I highlight so I can easily find my favorite parts in the ebook without searching. I have never and would never highlight or mark a paperback book.

I highlight only in books I'm reviewing.

I highlight then I write them down on my book journal when I'm done reading the whole book.

I've only highlighted once, and I've only read two books on my Nook. I bookmarked and highlighted a character's epiphany that I found thought-provoking.

I only highlight sometimes. Like when I read a book in English and I don't understand a couple of words. Or when I stumble over a quote I like.

I only highlight non-fiction if I need to reference something later, like in a text book.

I do highlight when a book has important info that I might have to go back to or a favored part I am sure to revisit

There is only one author whose books that I highlight in, I won't say who, but I only highlight because they use so many "big" words that I've never heard before so I highlight them so I can look it up. This is why I rarely read this authors books.

I highlight words that I don't know the meaning of and then I look up the meaning and put it in my notes.

I highly fairly often. The better the book, the more often the highlighting or bookmarking

I highlight passages from my reading group's selections that I want to reference when we meet. Next, I'll start using Notes to remind me of the questions/topics that arose in my head from highlighted quotes. I always hated highlighting my own books or writing in them. Was so glad when Post-It notes came along; this will replace those.

why do do you give "EReader users" the option to answer "I don't have an ereader"?

And yes I highlight, make notes and search the ebook for my notes when I start writing a review. later I will delete the notes and also the book again.

I like to highlight my favorite lines. Usually they are funny/inspirational or just plain perverted.
But, I would never EVER write in a real book. Nope, it is against the ancient book code.

I highlight for the following reasons:

1. Makes it a lot easier to revisit the book.
2. Valuable quotes of wisdom merit highlighting.
3. Points of interest.
4. Research purposes.
5. Properly credit author.

I voted no, I don't highlite but that is not entirely true. It is more truthful to say that I seldom highlite. It has to be information I want to remember or a special quote.

I highlight English words i have to look up in the dictionary (I'm French) and great quotes!

You know, i never highlighted until last night. I didn't really know/care about it. But i found a line that i really liked and saved it. So i've only used it once, but i feel i'll use it more now. :)

I highlight when I notice the typos. When it gets to the "OMG" stage, I better love it or it's going bye bye.

When I do use my eReader, I highlight my favourite quotes and moments in the books... parts that I like to re-read every time :)

No, I like to discover the story of the book for the second and third time. It makes even more sense reading the same book twice. Highlighting will sort of spoil the story the second time I read it.

I especially use the highlighting feature if I'm reading a book for our Cover-to-Cover book club. Sometimes one sample from a book will pass on the general atmosphere of the story to any who haven't read it.

Yes, I highlight on my ereader, especially when I'm reading the Bible. When I come across one of my many favorite scripture the highlight feature is the best. It's also great for when I come across something I want to show my wife or someone else.

I'm not an extensive ebook reader but I still highlight a lot. Much less in my pleasure reads though. For me books are something to work with and to communicate with. So I want to remember where I found the passages that where most interesting.

I generally tend to highlight quotes that stand out to me, or tug at my emotions. Also, highlighting is helpful for my bible, and school books.

They didn't give very good options - I don't exactly highlight EVERY single good quote, but I do sometimes. So they should have had an option saying: "I sometimes highlight, but not often," or something along those lines. I voted no, anyway :-D

I write down or blog the things I find especially profound, inspiring or noteworthy. I don't think, if I did highlight, I would come back to them or stumble upon them as absent-mindedly later; I like being floored by the same wonderful thing more than once, so I put them in simultaneously accessible and unintentional places.

I do, because when I go back over the book's highlights and my own, I more or less retain the things around what it was talking about.

I'm always highlighting because most of my books are iBooks and kindle books. So I love highlighting

I highlight books read for my book group - then print off comment list. I like to know what others highlight. Often, it is bits I want to remember also.

No, I don't have an eReader...yet. But when I do, I will treat it like I do ALL my books. I will highlight AND write notes. And I don't single out the yellow, because I think in multifacet, and I HATE monotomy. So, look for other colors; I'll leave it up to you to figure out why I use the particular color I use
