♥ Rebecca ♥ I have a Playbook. I use it pretty much exclusively for reading.

message 2: by Ella (new)

Ella Actually, mine broke. The 1st Edition Nooks only last a year. :( But, I did only use it for the web.
I read books on my phone though!

message 3: by Lainy (new)

Lainy I answered that wrong, I actually have a kindle and don't mind it - it doesn't beat a proper book though

message 4: by Shannwich (new)

Shannwich I have a Kindle and an iPad. I'll use my Kindle to read because the eInk is awesome, but reading on my iPad hurts my head sooooooo bad.

message 5: by Maria (new)

Maria Schneider I have a kindle and love to use it for reading. If I had a tablet, I'd probably read on it too.

message 6: by michelle+8 (new)

michelle+8 I wouldn't read on a tablet because of the back-lit screen. I used to read ebooks on my phone, and when I switched to a Nook, I experienced a huge improvement in readability thanks to the e-ink screen.

My husband does read comic books on his tablet, though, and I can see why it would be great for that.

Children's books look great on a tablet too. Jeffry Hepple (I think that's the spelling) has a couple of reasonable ones out with some nice color pix.

message 8: by Kat (new)

Kat I'd only ever get a kindle if the price dropped really low and this would be for the sole purpose of going away

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook I have both a kindle 2nd generation and iPad. I read on both but more so on my kindle, the kindle is much lighter to carry around but read on my iPad at home.

message 10: by Stefan (new)

Stefan Yates They'll never be able to replicate the actual physical experience of a physical book. Unfortunately, I fear that books will soon be a thing of the past.

message 11: by Aimee (last edited Mar 05, 2012 07:07PM) (new)

Aimee I read occasionally on my phone, but I don't really like it. I love holding a book. and the smell of a book! new or old. And reading comments in margins or seeing where someone forgot a bookmark or folded the corners...

message 12: by Katy (new)

Katy Stefan wrote: "They'll never be able to replicate the actual physical experience of a physical book. Unfortunately, I fear that books will soon be a thing of the past."

I don't think that will happen. Think on this - if anything ever happens to electricity, we'll have to go back to p-books. But, on the same token, I like my e-books 'cause they don't take up as much room - this place is overflowing with p-books. I can't even imagine if I had all these e-books as p-books around here! There'd be no room for walking around! LOL

message 13: by Sizarifalina (new)

Sizarifalina Yes. I read books on my tablet and love it.
It is easier for me as I can load tons of books in my iPad. easy to carry and i can choose whatever i want to reader in all genre!

message 14: by Jennifera (new)

Jennifera Bosworth yes, i have tab and kindle. I would like to read ipad. But unfortunately my ipad was broken. But rather i love to read on ipad more.

message 15: by Quang (new)

Quang I use Archos 70IT with Aldiko and Kindle app to read my ebooks.
Great use for bookmarks and annotations.

Stefan Yates Nick wrote: "I will never ever read anything on an iPad or Kindle or Nook or any other device. Part of the joy of reading, for me, is having the physical book and all the sights, sounds and smells. eReaders are..."

AMEN!!

message 17: by TheWellReadLady (new)

TheWellReadLady I'm too 'old school'! I see the convenience of one (ie: if you travel lots etc), but to me there is nothing nicer than the smell of a physical book, the feel of the pages, the weight of a book in my bag for the train. Love 'em! Physical books just CANNOT become a thing of the past with these new technologies - we need bookshops & libraries with shelves of books for children to explore, hold in their hands, enjoy the pictures and learn to love physical books.

message 18: by Linda (new)

Linda I´ve got both a Kindle (for reading outside =) ) and a Tablet (for reading when the lights are low) and i love it. I still buy books, the ones i really want and have longed for, but i prefer reading ebooks.

message 19: by R.B. (new)

R.B. I have Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and use Kindle and Moon+ reader apps for reading different formats of books. With 3g and wifi I can also communicate with friends here on GR in the same time :-)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* Dont see the point of paying all the money, I prefer actual books much more than electronic stories. I do get some free books and read on the computer from time to time, but it takes longer for me and more procrastination than if I actually had the book.

R.B. Erin wrote: "Dont see the point of paying all the money, I prefer actual books much more than electronic stories. I do get some free books and read on the computer from time to time, but it takes longer for me ..."

Well, I'd like to buy printed books but I don't have place for them and I also can't buy here genre that I'm reading...

message 22: by Isabel (last edited Mar 06, 2012 02:12AM) (new)

Isabel I have a kindle, and don't like reading on it really, I think it's harder to get into the story. I even use it more for the 3G internet! Which shows how little I do read on it!

message 23: by Jackie_d (new)

Jackie_d I have a Kindle keyboard G3. If that's considered a tablet, then I answered the poll wrong. I do nearly all of my reading on it, and I absolutely love it. It by far beats a regular book.

message 24: by Blushing (new)

Blushing I will read on my Kindle Keyboard when I get it, but I would not read on a tablet. All backlit screens are out for me when it comes to reading more than an article, news, forum posts and such.

message 25: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I mostly read review books these days, and most of them are eBooks which is why I usually read on my Kindle. ITO of reviewing, it's much more convenient for taking notes and highlighting important info/passages.

But yes, it is a bit cold, so when I read a printed book now it just feels wonderful, it's like a treat.

message 26: by Barbara (new)

Barbara I'ld like some kind of reading device on which I could read books when I travel. If I go on a 2 week holiday i'll take 10 books with me and then an e-reader would be more conveniet. But when I am at home I can't imagine ever not wanting to read books. I just love the experience a book gives me.

message 27: by Karen Floyd (new)

Karen Floyd Electronic gadgets may be convenient (though I am reminded of Mr. Harrison's "modern inconveniences"), but there is no better feeling than holding and reading a real book. I have no desire to own a kindle or whatever. We already spend too much time looking at screens. And I detest scrolling!

message 28: by Caroline (new)

Caroline I love reading on my first edition Nook, but I can't handle the backlit screens for long periods for reading (I'll do 15 minute doctor office waits on my phone, but that's about my limit). The only reason I'd consider a tablet for reading is comic books.

Having a Nook makes me feel like I'm reading my same favorite book over and over, in a way. It's a different feeling than reading paper books, and certainly not less personal in my opinion.

message 29: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith If I had a backlit screen instead of e-ink, I probably wouldn't do much reading on a tablet. A screen that looks like paper and ink makes a huge difference, I think.

message 30: by Dustin (new)

Dustin I voted that I want a tablet for reading, but that's misleading. If I had an iPad I would use the reader for all those old books that are hard to find and only cost .99 to download (or free!).

An iPad can never beat a shelf full of books.

message 31: by Nagalekshmi (new)

Nagalekshmi K I use Kindle. Best ever gift I got! Thanks to my lovely sis Nags!

message 32: by Monica (new)

Monica I have a Kindle and Ipad and I prefer to do all my reading on the Kindle. The e-ink is awesome and a lot easier on the eyes.

message 33: by Allen (new)

Allen I don't have one, but I'd like to try it for reading. I think I prefer reading physical books, though. The feel of the pages and the smell of a new book are two qualities that can't be replicated with an eReader.

message 34: by Elaine (new)

Elaine Nah, I much rather prefer the Kindle for it's e-ink but if it's possible, I would still read the actual books. Nothing can replace the feeling of reading real books.

message 35: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Smith I have a Kindle. I fought against having one but my husband bought me one anyway's. I told him I don't want this stupid thing I like my books be able to hold them and have them with me. But in the end I gave in and bought a book on it. I love it now!! I am able to read fast and more books than before. I still like my actually books but I don't know that I would give my Kindle up for anything.

Laima Squarekitty wrote: "I'm too 'old school'! I see the convenience of one (ie: if you travel lots etc), but to me there is nothing nicer than the smell of a physical book, the feel of the pages, the weight of a book in m..."

AMEN to that - I agree

message 37: by Lucy (new)

Lucy I answered "I don't want to read on one" but I would like a coloured one for my textbooks. Sadly, none of my textbooks are on the Kindle etc market yet.

message 38: by Michael (new)

Michael Langlois I have an iPad and a Kindle, and do all of my reading on the Kindle. It's just a better reading device, no contest.

message 39: by Sam (new)

Sam I would love to have a Kindle Fire or an iPad. If I had one I would probably read some books on it but that wouldn't be the main thing I would use it for. I mainly want one to be able to take back to my room and play on the internet. My laptop don't work in my room for some reason so I want a Kindle Fire or iPad.

On the topic of books being a thing of the past....I really hope that doesn't happen, I really prefer real book over electronic ones. I love the feeling of a real book that I can touch and go to whenever I want. Like someone else said e-books are just to cold.

message 40: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany I had a nook color for about a year and while it worked well I just had way too many issues with it not charging and such. Back in January I got my Acer Iconia Tab A500 so I wouldn't have to carry my laptop around at school all the time and started using it for reading e-books and I have to say that I love it. It's convenient for someone like me who reads multiple books in one day and I can connect it with my Calibre program on either on of my computers as long as I have to access to wi-fi.

message 41: by Bob (new)

Bob Really wish there were another option. I have a NOOK Color, and read books on it when I travel. I use it other times for games/magazines/web, again while traveling. Nothing still beats holding a book in hand, but the lightweight Nook beats carrying books on long trips handily!

message 42: by Shelvy (new)

Shelvy actually I used my iPod
Its too small but its easy to carry around

message 43: by Jaime (new)

Jaime I have the original Nook 1st edition, and I read almost exclusively on it. I have a hard time reading a hard back now. The nook is just so light and convenient; I can carry around hundreds of books at a time!

message 44: by Catherine (new)

Catherine I miss voted...ie my finger sliped /s oppsy. I have a nook tablet annd love reading and playing games on it.

message 45: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I have a Nook Tablet and read books a lot on it, but I also use it to play games and surf the web.

message 46: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Lord I don't have anything against the e-reader thingies, but I don't need one.

message 47: by Neko (new)

Neko I have a Nookcolor and I LOVE it. I use it almost only for reading. I only use the web access for logging onto goodreads to update my stats or checking something out on wiki.
Oh, and a tad bit for Netflix now. but still only for reading.

message 48: by Janecia (new)

Janecia I read books on my phone and my tablet with the Kindle app, Love it! It holds tons of books, bookmarking is easy, and it's just really convenient.

message 49: by Tony (new)

Tony I'd use it more for writing than reading however; ideas always hit me when I'm as far from my PC as one can get (at work, in the car, at the store, on the john...). After 10 hours of desk work the last place I wanna be is at my desk at home.

message 50: by Chaitali (new)

Chaitali Yes I have used Kindle. It took a while to love it and now that when I love it ; it broke. I find it very convenient and handy. I do read using iPad as well and then printed words too. But prefer Kindle over iPad any day for non back lit , easy on eyes etc.
