Colleen I have a tablet but read with my Paperwhite Kindle

message 302: by Amelia (new)

Amelia The question didn't give me much leeway in answering. I don't actually own a "tablet" like an iPad, but I have a Kindle Fire that has become as important to me as my laptop computer. (a MacBook Pro) Having to move in with and look after my Dad, who is also a book nut, I wouldn't have been able to buy and KEEP any books because of limited space, but thanks to my series of Kindles, I own over a thousand new books, purchased since the first Kindle was introduced, and can read any of them any time I want! I am profoundly grateful for my Kindles!

message 303: by Dw (new)

Dw Darkwars I have a kindle touch for reading, but only recently moved to that as I ran out of room in my house for books, and it cuts down on wieght when travelling. As much as i use the kindle though now, there is still nothing better than the feeling or smell of a proper book in your hands as you turn the pages, eager for the next part of the story to appear.

message 304: by Naomi (new)

Naomi Even though e-books are cheaper, i like the real book more. I wouldnt use an ereader because you can display real books

message 305: by Julia (new)

Julia It's horrible reading from a screen...

message 306: by Jos (new)

Jos Rienties I have a BeBook for reading my books, best invention after the dishwasher!!

message 307: by Patsy (new)

Patsy I only read on my Kindle Fire HD 8.9" which is kinda silly considering all it can do but it was a present from my hubby so I gave my Kindle keyboard to my Sister and use my new Fire. I think my hubby was hoping to expand my horizons but I am technologically challenged and prefer to stay that way lol. Although I did download a few apps and connected to Facebook(even tho I don't use it on my Fire) just to make him happy lol.

message 308: by Shayane (new)

Shayane Andersen I read on my iPad or iPod, my friends Kindle when I borrow it! I love technology!

message 309: by Wendy (new)

Wendy We have a kindle and we do use it for reading but i love books! Holding them, the smell of the paper, visually seeing what is left....After reading a few books on the kindle I am want to have a book to hold

message 310: by Cristina (new)

Cristina I have a nook and i sometimes read on my phone, but i prefer to actually be holding a book.

message 311: by Lorelei (last edited May 28, 2013 01:11AM) (new)

Lorelei I only have an eReader: Kindle. No tablets, no games. I have carpal tunnel syndrome and my Kindle has been a life-saver. I like getting books instantly too.

message 312: by Sandie (new)

Sandie Herron Yes, I do have an iPad and I use it for everything ... Web, games, reading books, shopping, research, go on Facebook and Goodreads, and so on. And while I love reading from a paper book, I started reading some things on my iPad because I can manipulate the typeface and size which is imperative when my double vision gets bad. I also listen to audiobooks via the iPad, again to help me read when my vision gets bad.

message 313: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Sullivan I actually use a bit of both. If I buy a book then I'll buy it for my Kindle. But I'm still a huge fan of going to the library.

message 314: by Dakota (new)

Dakota Griffin Reading on an Ipad hurts my eyes after an extended period. I want to get a Nook in a few weeks for the E-ink

message 315: by Laura (new)

Laura My mother has got a tablet, sometimes I use it. But I don't mind to read with a Tablet, but I prefer to read with the physical book ;)

message 316: by Shashank (new)

Shashank Singh Sisodia I love to read on my tablet... I can adjust brightness and everything. . and u can look for the meanings of some difficult words simultaneously ...

message 317: by Jocelyn (new)

Jocelyn Iyman I have an iPad but nothing beats a good old paperback!

message 318: by Damona (new)

Damona I have a Kindle keyboard, and the Kindle app on my smart phone, and I read a fair amount on those, but the Kindle Fire we have is usually used for everything BUT reading.

message 319: by Tamm (new)

Tamm I use my Kindle (ink display)

message 320: by Allen (new)

Allen Shashank wrote: "I love to read on my tablet... I can adjust brightness and everything. . and u can look for the meanings of some difficult words simultaneously ..."

Until the print gets so small that it takes a magnifying glass to read it!

message 321: by Brittany (new)

Brittany T I want to read more on my Kindle Fire, but I go through books so quickly it's no use buying them, I'd spend over $200 every 2 months or so if I did. And EBooks from the public library are very limited and the hold lists are soooooo loooong. So I wish I read more on my KF, but I don't.

message 322: by [deleted user] (new)

I only read on my tablet when the book is only on kindle and I have no other choice.

message 323: by Jeannette (new)

Jeannette I have an iPad and use iBooks and the Kindle App to read and love how my books are always accessible on my phone and the reader. But I still want the actual books for my collection!

message 324: by Johnny (new)

Johnny I read on an iPod touch. Some would find it too small obviously; I don't mind and it's great for travel.

message 325: by Renee (new)

Renee I have a nexus 7 and use the kindle app for most of my ebooks. I still read a lot of paperbacks though.

message 326: by Sealove (new)

Sealove Yes, we read on iPads and love it!

While it's true that nothing is quite like physically holding a book and turning the pages, the new digital devices allow us to take as many books with us as we want, plus other fun feathers, such as highlighting, notes, etc...

But the thing we love the most about digital books is the lack of trees that were cut down in the process!

message 327: by Doug (new)

Doug Robertson I have a kindle 2 that I do my reading on. Tablets hurt my eyes after long exposure. (I read digital comics on them and get burnt out quite quickly) Kindle 2 is the sh1t

message 328: by Mark (last edited Jul 06, 2013 09:30PM) (new)

Mark I just got an iPad mini and I got it mainly to read. I didn't think I would ever move away from paper books until I started using it. I was using iBooks but now also the Kindle app. Also like how I can open the book either on my phone or iPad and they know where I am up to.

Having said that, I don't think tablets will ever replace paper books. At least I hope not. I have some beautiful old Indian art books bound in silk, gold embossed, thick paper with beautiful colour plates tipped in and each covered by a sheet of tissue.

I see that well bound books are making a come back.

message 329: by Allen (new)

Allen Mark - I agree with you that paper books are not going out any time soon because there are lots of people that don't have electronic readers. Maybe POD will save the paper book industry. In the meantime, my eyes have not adjusted to the fine print of paperbacks and newspaper comic strips, so I have switched to a Kindle where I can pump up the font to a comfortable size for me. It has also saved my bookshelves, which are full.

message 330: by cheryl (new)

cheryl I also play brain games, watch television ,and watch movies.

message 331: by cheryl (new)

cheryl I use my Kindle Fire to read, play brain games, and to watch movies.

message 332: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I'v mostly read only ebooks now and I love Asus android tablets. U can to anything on them and the battery is fantastic. I can read all day no stop with battery to spare.

message 333: by Mary (new)

Mary There isn't a choice for 50/50. That's about how I split my tablet time.

message 334: by Gloria (new)

Gloria Antypowich I love my Kindle. I never read paper books now. I also have a android tablet which I download all my books to. I read it if my battery runs down and I'm in the middle of a great read.

message 335: by Andreína (new)

Andreína Actually I used my samsung galaxy note II and I like, it's easy to carry around.

message 336: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie I use my Kindle Fire constantly and love it!

message 337: by Stevie (new)

Stevie I recently got an iPad Mini as a gift. (Regretfully the one with the fancy schmancy retina whatevers comes out soon.) Although I have yet to read an iBook/eBook, I downloaded Zite & Pocket and have yet to download other fun apps. I am addicted to reading Zite on my iPad.

message 338: by Som (new)

Som Tablets are not necessarily a good e-reader; because of the eyes killing LCD and page turner book's combined lethality. I have a IPad (mostly for reading newspapers, magazines and graphic novels, buncha apps etc) and Ipod 4th gen for music; movies only on home theater and laptop. But reading is always best on real books and good if you have an e-ink device (I have a kindle touch, kindle paperwhite and a nook simple touch). If you're a addictive reader, then I'd say go for kindle paperwhite. It's advisable to stay away from Ipads and Kindle fire for reading purposes; glares are merciless even with auto brightness on!

message 339: by Brittany (new)

Brittany I have a Kindle Fire but i usually use that for searching the web.. I still love the feeling of holding a paper back in my hands!

message 340: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie Som sorry to disagree with your viewpoint about reading with a Kindle Fire. I own a Kindle and a Kindle Fire and prefer reading using a Kindle Fire.

message 341: by Rashidul (new)

Rashidul holding a book and reading has its own feeling but if the book is a thickass one, tab comes handy during a travel :D

message 342: by Brenda (new)

Brenda I have a Kindle for reading and an HP Slate7 for internet usage when travelling.

message 343: by Koen (new)

Koen I use a Kobe e-reader. The e-ink screen is not comparable with a tablet screen. I don't understand why this option isn't available in the list.
Mentioning the Kindle fire makes the confusion complete, since what is generally known as a "Kindle" has an e-ink screen, while the screen of a Kindle Fire is IPS, like a lot of tablets have.

message 344: by Allen (new)

Allen I agree with Koen that the Kindle Fire should have been named an Amazon Fire because it is a Tablet and not a Kindle.

message 345: by April (new)

April Read on my Kindle Fire when I am at home or if I am on vaca in the hotel room otherwise I read on my Iphone. Never read paperbacks anymore since I was a teen =)

message 346: by Desiree (new)

Desiree I just bought a Nook Hd Plus during their sale and I LOVE it!!!! I have it hooked up to get free library books from the Overdrive app and have found tons of free books on Amazon! I use it ALL the time! I am constantly switching back and forth between books, radio, the net and games, mostly! Now, if only the battery would hold out a bit longer, as I said, I am using this thing all the time!

message 347: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn Stefan wrote: "Nick wrote: "I will never ever read anything on an iPad or Kindle or Nook or any other device. Part of the joy of reading, for me, is having the physical book and all the sights, sounds and smells...."

Oh, what's the betting that they will start putting the smell of new books impregnated into a Kindle!!

message 348: by Allen (new)

Allen When they start making those good smelling books change font size for old fuds like me, weigh less than the phone book and have a built in light, then I will consider going back to paper. Meanwhile I can get both Kindle and paper books free.

message 349: by Catherine (new)

Catherine This poll is strangely phrased. I use my tablet for so many things -- reading books, reading magazines, checking email, taking notes, the web, movie viewing when I travel, music, courses, shopping . . .

message 350: by Kristina (new)

Kristina Chochova I used to read on my tablet before, but since i got my kindle I read only on my kindle, cause it's better for my eyes ... :)
