Rhimineecat Well, i have a tablet, but for reading I mostly use my kindle :)

message 252: by KAi (new)

KAi We have a Kindle Fire HD and Nook e-reader, and I find it easier to focus on reading on the latter. The tablet his too many options that I admittedly get distracted by games, surfing net, skype, etc.

message 253: by Ben (new)

Ben Gillam I used my tablet for reading loads, but my other half got me a kindle 4 for xmas and this has now become my device of choice a lot lighter and convenient, but can still sync books with tablet if i need to use that for any reason.

message 254: by Sevak (last edited Jan 09, 2013 04:07PM) (new)

Sevak All these electronics are good for a lot of thing, I admit. But nothing is better then the good old fashioned smell of books! I love the feeling of and actual book in my hands rather than a cold hard device. I love those devices, but nothing beats actual books. It makes me feel as if I have a very cool friend that's been to a lot of wonderful places. If that makes sence. I have no friends on goodreads so I find comfort in books:-)

Kevin Kai wrote: "We have a Kindle Fire HD and Nook e-reader, and I find it easier to focus on reading on the latter. The tablet his too many options that I admittedly get distracted by games, surfing net, skype, etc."

Who is we? And what is surfing net? Do you mean using the internet? Cause no one in these days say surfing net, unless your old schooled. No offence.

message 256: by Allen (new)

Allen Some of us older fuds still surf the Internet, spell correctly, use good grammar, use caps properly, don't write in "texting language" and are considered old fashioned. Just sayin' you know.

message 257: by Ben (new)

Ben Gillam Haha, Well said Al. :)

@Sevak I hear a lot of people say that there is a certain smell, maybe something to do with paper used or picking up moisture from the air over time. However I find books irritating to hold and trying to close itself all the time and find it much easier on an E reader all one handed.

message 258: by Cindy (new)

Cindy I don't have one yet but some day I will get a Kindle Paperwhite. Sounds like people think it is best for nighttime reading.

message 259: by Panayotis (new)

Panayotis Moutafidis as had bought a kindle before 4 months use a lot

message 260: by Laura (new)

Laura I have a regular Kindle for reading books. I like the weight and lack of connectivity. Easier to get lost in the story. I read magazines and newspapers and blogs on my iPad.

message 261: by Hanine ϟ (new)

Hanine ϟ Reading books without having to worry about where to put them (my shelves are brimming) is the reason why I got my iPad. My aunt says that I'm boring for not having as many games and fun apps as books.
I voted yes.

message 262: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I use my Kindle Fire for web surfing and my Kindle Keyboard for reading.

message 263: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I prefer the classic kindle. The iPad (ibooks, kindle app) are best when I don't have the kindle with me or want to read in bed when it is dark (I don't have the kindle paperwhite). I love reading on the kindle and iPad.

message 264: by Terri (new)

Terri I have a Kindle Fire 1st gen. I do love reading on my Kindle. For books that I love to read, there is nothing like a real book to hold in your hands.

message 265: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Nick wrote: "I will never ever read anything on an iPad or Kindle or Nook or any other device. Part of the joy of reading, for me, is having the physical book and all the sights, sounds and smells. eReaders are..."

I used to think the same thing, but I love my Kindle. And I actually think a book is more impersonal than a Kindle. If you think about it, how many people have that same exact book? Whereas, my Kindle holds my library which it is not likely anyone has the same exact library as me.

Don't get me wrong. I still have my book shelves, and I still buy paper book. But the majority of my personal reading is done with my Kindle. I also read on my Kindle Fire in a pinch, but I don't consider it an e-Reader.

message 266: by Larry (new)

Larry I have a tablet and tho I can use it for reading I prefer to use my sony book reader-less battery use. But really it matters not how we read, only that we do.

message 267: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne Lynn I have an HP Touchpad and it is magnificent for reading. The books look incredible on it! I prefer reading a Kindle book on my tablet over my Kindles. However, the app is very touchy and crashes often. I've had to delete it and re-install it at least a dozen times. When it works, it's awesome. Unfortunately for me, most of the time, it freezes.

message 268: by Ben (new)

Ben Gillam Jeanne wrote: "I have an HP Touchpad and it is magnificent for reading. The books look incredible on it! I prefer reading a Kindle book on my tablet over my Kindles. However, the app is very touchy and crashes of..."

It's such a shame HP dropped the touch pad so quickly , nobody there to support users who bought one

message 269: by Pauline (new)

Pauline Oh how I love my Kindle. I've had mine for three years I think. Except for a little problem caused by the case of all things it has and is working well unlike my sister's Sony ereader which has broken down twice and they refuse to refund her. My slash obsession has been fed by my Kindle.

message 270: by Teresa (new)

Teresa I have a nook, love it. Only thing is the rest of my family they have kindle. So, we not anle to share books, unless I buy 29.99 app that would let me read them.

message 271: by Allen (new)

Allen Theresa, have you considered just breaking the DRM and then converting the book to the Nook format? Alternately if all Nook readers boycotted all books with DRM as well as Kindle readers, maybe we could get back to a sane world that allows families to share that which they could normally do with a print book. Unfortunately I don't think that is going to happen, unless the lawsuit against Amazon and the others forces them to. Amazon is agnostic about DRM, which is designated by the publisher or author. Try buying books from Smashwords, consult the list on Calibre to find DRM free books. I have 3 articles for sale and all are DRM free, all of the Baen library is DRM Free as well as the Gutenberg library.

message 272: by Teresa (new)

Teresa No, I did not know that could do that. Thanks,, for telling me about the sites that offer free drrm. I aready use smashworks. I going to check out your articles.

message 273: by Valentina (new)

Valentina I use the e-reader for reading, the tablet for everything else.

message 274: by Helen (last edited Mar 03, 2013 01:42PM) (new)

Helen I used to think I'd not like an e-reader. I have books all over my house, many unread. Since my hands have become so arthritic (both osteo and rheumatoid) it has become too painful to read books most of the time. I have read more in the short time I've had my kindle 4 months) than I have in the past five years!! I get very involved in what I read and don't even think about the format anymore. I consider my Kindle a blessing!!!! Put it right up there with Dragon for those who have issues with their hands.

message 275: by Allen (new)

Allen Helen - I read on my Kindle because I need the large print. Have you tried elimination all of the night shade family of foods for 6 weeks to see if your arthritis pain recedes? Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. The peppers are American peppers (not pimento) and the potatoes are the white potatoes, even if they are blue, red or whatever. Sweet potatoes are OK.

Helen wrote: "I used to think I'd not like an e-reader. I have books all over my house, many unread. Since my hands have become so arthritic (both osteo and rheumatoid) it has become too painful to read books mo..."

Al, yes, that's something else. I am able to enlarge the font to a comfortable size. My eyesight is changing at a pretty steady rate and I can't afford new glasses as often as I like so this is a big help. I've pretty much got the RA under control with remicade and methrotrexate. Just take naproxen for pain as needed. I also have carpal tunnel (worked for many years on computers) and sleep with splints. My biggest problem at the moment is foot pain after walking any distances, and fatigue. I just roll with the punches and love finding little things that help me do what I enjoy. Next on my list is a platform bed, so I don't have to deal with cleaning under the bed. Since I favor down comforters and feather bed, and have two cats that sleep in the bed..... cat hair and feathers accumulate under there quickly. Also can do away with box spring and turn mattress easier. I've tried all kinds of diets and find all things in moderation works best for me. Have eliminated most salt and sugar and eat mostly all fresh fruits and veggies. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble on.

message 277: by Yoly (new)

Yoly I read in my Iphone.

message 278: by Allen (new)

Allen Yoly - I used to be able to do that, except in those days before the iPod or iPhone, it was called a Palm Pilot.

Yoly Al wrote: "Yoly - I used to be able to do that, except in those days before the iPod or iPhone, it was called a Palm Pilot."

I remember those, my brother used to have one.

message 280: by Mary (new)

Mary I have a NOOK Tablet and absoulety LOVE it. It makes reading easy. I have read more books since I got my NOOK than any other time!

message 281: by [deleted user] (new)

I use a kindle (Paperwhite) but honestly anyone who reads on a LCD tablet (other than say, comic books) is kind of dumb, as it's a terrible reading experience.

message 282: by Allen (new)

Allen I read everything on my Kindle paperwhite as well, with the notable exception of PDFs, of which I receive many newsletters in that format. The Kindle is unable to handle those without totally making some of them unreadable. I bought an iPad just for that purpose.

message 283: by Angel (new)

Angel I have a Kindle and absolutely LOVE IT. I recommend it all the time. I also go to the library once a week. YOu can now get library books on your kindle for 14 days. What an age we are living in!! ;) Peace Angel

message 284: by Angel (new)

Angel Jackie_d wrote: "I have a Kindle keyboard G3. If that's considered a tablet, then I answered the poll wrong. I do nearly all of my reading on it, and I absolutely love it. It by far beats a regular book."

I have the same thing and think it was just the best invention EVER. I still love actual books but when i finish a book and the library is closed i can get the next book of series on my kindle right away. i am all for that instant gratification!!! peace

message 285: by Allen (new)

Allen This is really a bad poll. Where is the place for "Yes I have a tablet but I use a reader (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Sony, etc) for reading. Also, "Yes, I have a tablet but I don't read books on it, just PDF files." And finally, "No, I don't have a tablet but I do read e-books on a reader/computer/smart phone/etc".

message 286: by Corey (new)

Corey I have a Nook hd+ and I use it for everything. Hardly ever use my laptop.

message 287: by Tracy (last edited Mar 21, 2013 11:34AM) (new)

Tracy Mcallister I have a Kindle Fire HD and I mostly use it for reading. I still love actual books too. The Kindle is very handy. Plus, I love all the free books I get online.

message 288: by tiff (new)

tiff Lots of elitists here......

message 289: by Mauricio (new)

Mauricio nook color rooted and a nook e-ink for the long battery life. I still buy more books than e-books though.

message 290: by Laura (new)

Laura I use my iPad for work and play, but prefer my regular old black and white "ink" Kindle for reading.

message 291: by Lori (new)

Lori Morris I have a tablet and my phone has the kindle app, but I find that reading for any length of time on these devices causes a severe headache. I love my Kindle paperwhite beacuse of the lack of eyestrain.

message 292: by [deleted user] (new)

I do not read books on my tablet but I use it for games but I do read books on my smart phone and have an app what lets me read any book I want .

message 293: by Rees (new)

Rees These responses are a bit absurd, aren't they? I have a kindle fire, it's nice (no need for a night light), but I don't love it.

message 294: by Jen (new)

Jen I use my Kindle when I want to read eBooks and my tablet for updating Goodreads with what page I'm on when it's late at night and I'm in bed and don't want to get on the computer. :-)

message 295: by Maureen (last edited Apr 08, 2013 08:47AM) (new)

Maureen McKade Love my mini iPad with apps for Kindle and Sony Reader (my old ebook reader), but it's also a great all-in-one for surfing the web, checking email, and watching movies/tv shows.

message 296: by Josiane (new)

Josiane Claremont Yes. I have a Kindle Fire, and I use it for the web to read books, and then I have all these classics downloaded on it (that I am trying to build up enough interest to finish reading!)

message 297: by Sandie (new)

Sandie Herron I probably use my phone and tablet more for audiobooks since I have vision problems. If I actually read a book, I always customize the type to something larger. I use them both for both styles of "reading."

I do also use phone and tablet for playing games, keeping my calendar, and other apps that are fun.

message 298: by Creative_Mii (new)

Creative_Mii I read books on both my generic 7" tablet and Kobo Glo ereader> I read magazines on my Samsung Galaxy 10.1 tab. I love having several books and magazines choices at my fingertips. Yet I still love a good coffee table book and limited edition hardback. That's where I think the future of paper books is heading. Less paperbacks, more quality or event driven hardback books.

message 299: by Sandie (new)

Sandie Herron Dear Creative,
I also found the poll difficult to answer since I use my iPad for reading, games, fun. I use my iPhone as a phone, to read, keep my calendar. I still read paper books - I prefer hardcover or PBO. Plus i've recently added audiobooks to the multitude of formats I use due to vision problems. However I've found I really enjoy the audiobooks.
So ultimately I wish the poll had had the capacity to answer with more than one item.
Sandie

message 300: by John (new)

John Ludlow I have a Kindle, but I haven't quite cleared my queue of paper books.

I find that trying to read on an LCD screen is painful, so I don't plan to get a tablet for reading on, though getting a tablet for other uses isn't out of the question.
