To Kill a Mockingbird
by
"I think everyone should read this book, not only because it has a great lesson to be learned, but also because it connects us all together. Just about everyone had to read this book going through highschool. for the rest of your life, you will be hearing references to it, because it is such a powerful and well-known book. you might as well read it, just so that you are in the loop."

"i think it goes without saying that everyone should read this book. even if only to honor Anne Frank for her strength and what she was put through."

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)
by
"i believe that this book, like so many other poor unfortunates, suffers from having terribly annoying fans. These fans make the book less attractive to prospectual readers, and make it "lame" to read it. However, there is a reason that these incredibly irksome fans jump and scream, and it is a valid one. This is a great work of literature. Everyone should read it, preferably when they are ten years old.`"

Romeo and Juliet
by
"Romeo and Juliet is probably the most referred-to text in the english-speaking world. I would not be at all surprised to find that it is referred to more often than any religious book. it is powerful and beautiful and admittedly difficult but so worth the difficulty. i challenge you to read this book."

Night
by
"this book is so powerful, so heartwrenching, so horribly true. reading it brings us an infinitesimal step closer to understanding the holocaust. it is, however, graphic, and while everyone should read this, they should be sure they are ready to take it in before they do. i don't recommend this to anyone under 12."

The Chronicles of Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia, #1-7)
by
"this is a book that i firmly believe must be read as a bedtime story, before your child is old enough to read it for themselves. however, the movie really isnt the same at all, and i dont recommend that you just get that as a substitute (like i probably would if someone said this to me)."

Memoirs of a Geisha
by
"i'm not sure i can quite put into words why i voted for this book. maybe it was because i found it inspiring. maybe its because i think we can learn from this book. whatever the reason, the sentiment is definitely there, and maybe if you read it, you will understand. "

The Lorax
by
"this book is a great way to illustrate the need to be kind to the earth to our kids. i know that sounds sappy and hippy-ish but the fact remains that if we don't teach them, no one will."
