From journalism and dance, Joan Acocella. From music and the blues, Dick Waterman. From Spanish comics, Marti, author of work including The Cabbie (English translation, here The Cabbie: Book One). From comics and art history scholarship, the late, great David Kunzle.
RIP Brian Lumley (2 December 1937 – 2 January 2024). I discovered his books at an important time in my life.
Children's author Nick Sheridan has died at 32.Children's author Kate Banks has passed away at 64.
Children's author and illustrator Petra Mathers has died at 78.
Lynne Reid Banks is dead at 94. :(I knew she was old, but I didn't realize how old. She wrote a great many books that are still considered kids' classics.
And I can't believe it, I maxed out again in April!I tried to be really careful and only add 3 books per author, but I guess we've lost a lot of people so far. I'll be mentioning future losses in the comment section, if other people would like to add them.
Also, Mike Thaler, author of the extremely popular Black Lagoon series, has died at 87.
Rainbowheart wrote: "The infamous O.J. Simpson has finally met his maker."His author page here on GoodReads indicates he wrote books on chemistry of metals 🤔
Mandisa, Terry A. Anderson, Cecil Williams, Ray Garton, Jerome Rothenberg, and Helen Vendler are other recent losses.
From January, UGA Journalism prof, historic preservation enthusiast, writer and editor John W. English. He was the biographer of 1950s-70s Dean of Students Wm. Tate in When Men Were Boys: An Informal Portrait of Dean William Tate.

Should there be a limit, e.g. only the book with the most ratings for any single author?
I think it's good to have the list be as comprehensive as possible. I'd love to add all the books from all the deceased authors, but alas, Goodreads will not give us unlimited votes!
Rainbowheart - I think we have everyone covered starting with your April 19th post. Sadly, it’s quite a few….
Peter B. Gillis, comics writer and Medieval academic, has died. Later: our man Kinky Friedman died.
Make it three: critic and essayist Frederick Crews; you may know his paperback The Pooh Perplex.
Actor Donald Sutherland is dead at 88.Children's author Katey Howes has died at 47.
Children's author Florence Minor passed away at 74.
Ismail Kadare, Harriette Gillem Robinet, Shay Youngblood, John Burnside, Judy Oppenheimer, and Don De Grazia are more recent losses.
