Finding Fantasy Reads was born out of Karyne Norton’s desire to find a wide variety of quality and clean fantasy books and authors. Anyone on the street will have heard of Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. People who call themselves fantasy readers will recognize names like Brandon Sanderson or Michael J. Sullivan. But only the voracious readers have delved into the sea of small publishers and indie authors to find stories that hold just as much magic, adventure, and heart.
With thousands of people publishing fantasy books, it’s daunting to find your next favorite book or author. But what if there was a way to sample all these authors without having to buy their book? Or even read an entire novel? Face it, fantasy writers aren’t very economical with their words…
Finding Fantasy Reads
Karyne started her search by subscribing to dozens of author newsletters, which almost always came with a free short story. It quickly became the number one way she decided whose book to read next. The only thing missing was a way to listen to the stories instead.
ENTER FINDING FANTASY READS
Every week Karyne picks an amazing (and clean!) fantasy story to share with you, ranging from fairytale retellings, urban fantasy, high fantasy, and young adult. Clean fantasy can have a wide range of definitions, so for the sake of clarity, think of the podcast in these terms: G for language, PG for romance, and PG-13 for violence. This is both to maintain the non-explicit rating and because Karyne has four kids, two of which will listen to the podcast. Having a story featured on the podcast doesn’t guarantee the featured author maintains clean fantasy across their books, so use your own discretion as you continue reading.
Stories told from a female perspective are narrated by Karyne while stories told from a male perspective are narrated by her brother, Paeter Frandsen, host of the Christian Geek Central podcast. The show notes will always include information on the author and how to find more of their work. In addition, most months there will be a giveaway sponsored by the featured authors.
Expect to discover a ton of new amazing authors and stories without having to hunt them down yourself.
You’re welcome.
