But why did they have zippers? | |
“You’re no more magical than any other human I’m afraid. As for you being chosen, I’m not sure it matters. Is it more useful to be chosen and not know it, or to not be chosen but still be the one who's needed? If you break the curse, then with the perspective of the future, you are the chosen one, I suppose. But only if you succeed.”
I was growing more and more convinced that she was deliberately trying to make me crazy. “So, I’m only the one who’s meant to break the spell if I break the spell?”
“Would you rather have no free will?”
“How did this turn into a religious debate?”
“Excellent question. You should probably continue this discussion with your pastor.” Miss Chloe turned back to her computer.
“Will everything actually turn out fine?” I asked her softly as got up to leave.
“There is a very good possibility of that.”
Not as reassuring as one might hope.”

“My imagination was clearly on overdrive today. Maybe I should switch to reading nonfiction for a few days.”

“You must believe me when I tell you how much I regret my behavior when you visited last,” he said. “That day is…difficult for me.”
“Ena told me,” I said gently.
“Still, I’m sorry for growling at you.” He ran his thumb lightly over the back of my hand, and I fought a shiver.
“I did think we were past the growling.” I tried to focus on my annoyance with him. It was difficult with the hand rubbing. “Friends shouldn’t growl at friends.”
“It’s true,” he agreed solemnly. “And I don’t have so many friends that I can afford to growl at them.”
