This book is exactly why I read fantasy - it boasts a well-crafted story with interesting, unusual characters and my suspension of disbelief never falters. I can fully accept the world of London Below, with its rat-speakers and angelic wine and Earl's who hold court in subway cars. Strikingly visual, yet not overwritten. ...more

I honestly, and don't shoot me, don't know what all the hype about Neil Gaimon is about. I did really like his comic books, and I've loved all the films he's been involved with, I just don't like his books. I don't think his style of writing is very developed, and while his plots are fantastic and he obviously has thousands and thousands of amazing ideas, I think his writing is somewhat dull.
