Shelves: ending-abrupt-poor-epilogue-needed, angsty-dark-heavy-lotsa-drama, captive-kidnapped-hostage-slave, contemporary-romance, editing-nightmare, hero-abused-scarred-tortured-angst, hh-disfigured-injured-scarred-ill, audiobook-library, fiction, villain-creepy-azz-killer
5 stars for Lali Sokolov's story, but he deserved a better accounting than this book. The writing is simplistic, bland, choppy, and amateurish with little depth of feeling. It doesn't provide the type of details or emotional connection that's needed for a love story that takes place during the brutal atrocities of the Holocaust. The writing style has a sense of detachment about it, and the latter part of the book felt really rushed and incomplete. It felt like a YA novel to me rather than a true ...more
