"To save one is to save the world."

What a tale! And a true one at that! How amazing is man's resilience and his will to live and love!

Truthfully, I avoided adding this book to my tbr and not even considered watching Netflix for it. However, as it popped out onto my hands from the street library the other week, it feels like fate. I just thought that it would be way too heartbreaking to read and really, it was but I guess I just tried not to think too deeply about what could have been etc. I also ...more

5 stars for Lali Sokolov's story, but he deserved a better accounting than this book. The writing is simplistic, bland, choppy, and amateurish with little depth of feeling. It doesn't provide the type of details or emotional connection that's needed for a love story that takes place during the brutal atrocities of the Holocaust. The writing style has a sense of detachment about it, and the latter part of the book felt really rushed and incomplete. It felt like a YA novel to me rather than a true ...more
